good to see you back on the forum. This reminds one of oldies like imperiouxx (i hope he is doing well and his fam), Twoods (he has pretty much chilled out this days old age don come grin), Msnas, loads of names can't recall now. Stay safe!

🤠

** You are deceiving yourselves vouching for lies. Empty barrel oldies of no achievements, claiming USA residents for the past 7 years and still coming back to Nairaland jostling for position.

** All professors (PhD holders) in the USA Universities and Colleges are in academia not to talk of Industry or Development Researchers (non-academic PhD holders), so how many percentage % are they ?

** Non of you have anything to offer. You are all empty baskets.

Why are you frustrated? This isn't the good place to unleash your frustrations. Look deep, understand the source of your frustrations and deal with it. Live your life and achieve your dreams instead of bothering over other people's achievements. Shalom!

You hurling insults as a way to deter people from commenting wouldn't work with me. If you don't like my comment, point out what it is I have said that isn't true and provide a better response or proof.

Hey 🤠

1. Yes. I thought like your friend when i read your piece, but since you did not indicate interest for PhD, i decided to respect your plans.

2. Unfortunately, you cannot or will not be successful with PhD admissions or studentship' if you don't have interest in lecturing.

PS: You seems to be a businesss/management orientated person. Stick with your MSc. Another MSc won't ring a bad bell if you plan it very well.

Best Wishes 🙏

14 years with a PhD, never worked a day in academia and it was the best decision I ever made. Do you live in the United States? There are tons of Phds working in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

@MrGboyegaD

I have googled as you have recommended, and this is what i have discovered ;

1. United States (as a specimen) has officially 5,300 Universities (The main academia).

2. Now, let's break down order of ranks of regular University faculty : We have (Full) Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor. Some Universities have ' Distinguished Professor or University Professor. Let's not forget Professor Emeritus ( retired professors).
The aforementioned are PhD degree holders working in the main academia.

3. Let's go to USA Industries: As at last- year 2023, the United States has approximately, 623,000 Manufacturing Industries, with " Research Scientists (PhDs holders) who focus on developing new products and technologies, and who applies science to solve problems in the marketplace. Research Scientists also works in the academia, because they reports all new breakthroughs back to the Universities and other higher institutions of learning.

4. Therefore, back to your claim sir , how will more than 60% of PhD holders in the United States work outside academia ?
I accept that very few PhD holders walk-away with their certificates, but how will those few beat the main PhD holders working in sense 2 & 3 above?

5. I am open to genuine correction and honest opinions.

Best Wishes 🙏

Oga, stop rationalizing a fact you can check. There are resources online to help you. This has nothing to do with your emotions/reasoning.

You can start from the National Center for Science and Engineering Statiatics. They have different publications that you could look into for more information.

Their website is https://ncese.nsf.gov.

PhD here who isn’t a research scientist. I have worked with lots of other Phds who aren’t. You’re missing a large number of us.

I guess we should let him be since he's either not adept to finding simple data or he's trying to save face.

I'll like my spouse and daughter to join me. Someone was saying they can come through b1/b2 visa while I know of F2. Please, what's the best option? Thank you

F-2 if you have the statement that shows you can sponsor them because you’ll need to submit proof of funds that you can cover them as well.

F-2 is a better option.

F-2 can leave and be back anytime they want. They necessarily do not have to stay.

You have to guest request for an f-2 I-20 for them and apply for visa for them. You don’t have to link anything.

Hey 🤠

F2 & B1/B2 VISAS in juxtaposition.

1. Purpose of visit: The F2 VISA is specifically designed for spouses of F-1 students, whereas the B1/B2 visa is a General Visitor Visa.

2. There's no residential requirement for F2 VISA holder, so an F2 could just come and go, frequently, with no questions asked. Doing the same in B1/B2 could get one questioned and potentially revoked for abusing the visitor visa.

3. Duration of stay: The F2 VISA allows you to stay in the USA for the duration of your spouse's F-1 program (indefinite), or it can accommodate a planned 2-3 month stay. The B1/B2 visa typically has a maximum stay of 6 months, after which you must return to your country of origin.

4. Visa validity: F2 VISAS are typically valid for the duration of the F-1 Student's Program indefinite, whereas B1/B2 visas have a set validity period, often from 5-10 years.

5. You cannot work on F2 VISA nor B1/B2 while you are physically present in the USA, not even online work for your overseas employer, but you can look for an employer (with both VISA types) who can sponsor your H1B or other work authorisation papers.

6. Children of F2 VISA holders can attend public school (elementary or high school) but B1/B2 kids cannot do the same

SUMMARY

** The F2 VISA would be the more appropriate option in your situation (especially if you are on PhD) because F2 is originally created for the spouse or child of an F-1 Student (Bsc, MSc & PhD). Approach your School DSO for how to start procedures.

Best Wishes 🙏

Hello!

I emailed the school I applied to concerning my request for application fee waiver and the international Admissions office responded with the following statement:

"It would appear that your request for an application fee waiver has been approved and you should have received a notification via email".

Does this mean my request has been approved? Their response is somehow confusing so I need someone to clearify me. Please find screenshot below.

I also want to know, if my request for application fee waiver is approved, will it reflect on my application portal? Currently, it's submitted since the day I submitted my application. Will it be updated to "Under Review", "Application Complete", "Application Fee Waived", or any other way? I just want to know.

Thank you as I await your timely response.

Email them for clarification. Check your spam folder. A code will surely be sent to you if that’s their method.

They are in the best position to tell you if it is approved or not and not people on here.
