1. If you are a Nigerian then, the best place for any individual to apply for USA visa is in his or her country of origin, as highly recommended by the US embassy.

2. Although, the US embassy are relaxing recently on the rule of Consular Shopping for F1- VISA applicants ( a situation where you apply for VISA in a 3rd country, hoping that it will favor you),
but a hard-line consular officer can still deny you base on the rule if the consular cannot find any other reason again.

3. If you can find a favourable dates in Abuja or Lagos, i will recommend that you come over to your fatherland , as Cotonou to Nigeria is only few hours drive. Consular officers , respects applicants with the spirit of nationalism, they believe that such applicants will usually come back to contribute positively towards their nation.

4. Mind you, either you apply in Cotonou, or you go and apply from Canada, the USA embassy will treat your VISA application same ways, as they are treating other Nigerians , based on the nationality on your Travel Passport. Ipso facto, F1 VISA applicant will usually receive a favourable date , based on your resumption date, especially if you are a first timer, or at worst you can use the emergency option which is usually granted.


PS: Always be proud of your nation. Nigeria is leading Egypt , as no1- highest economy in Africa, with approximately $477 billion GDP.

No, I am not in any group. I do most of the applications myself after researching online for schools (decent ranked schools with free applications) or I check my choice schools websites to register for their virtual information sessions that provides app fee waivers.

About the freshly open position, can you share the direct link? (You can break the link to avoid auto.bot.ban) cos what I’m seeing on their website employment page are faculty positions or TA positions which I am unqualified for (as a fresh graduate with zero teaching experience)

My Ds160 contains the correct passport number and the portal support service doesn’t reply fast, there’s no likelihood of them attending to my message before my interview date which is next week.
Please advice me on what to do and if this has any serious implication.

If you are applying for undergraduate program, have it at heart that there are more than 2,000 universities in the US. You have no excuse whatsoever that you are not able to find schools.

There are universities that are cheap and affordable.

Fitchburg State University

East Tennessee State University

Georgia State University

Miami University

Kent University

Ohio University

Austin Peay State University

Wichita State University

Kansas State University

Tennessee Tech University etc.

Remember, Google is your friend. Do your research and apply.

When going for most US VISA appointments, the most useful thing that stand as compass which shows the way and tell the consular officer almost everything about you is your DS-160 confirmation print-out, and for the fact that, your current VISA appointment letter has the current DS-160 confirmation number, then that's enough to match all your details. You can point out the discrepancy verbally to the embassy staffs , but you will be fine.

PS: I will, however, recommend that, you raise a ticket by attaching the said appointment letter, may be they can auto-correct it and ask you to print another appointment letter.

3. Naturally , the US embassy is supposed to send a migration email to everyone with previous appointment records , but they are not really keeping to their words which is understandable (work pressure and large population of applicants). I think they are using delaying tactics. Everyone will be served eventually.

Hello sir thanks so much for the response the thing is i applied for myself and my dependants and i needed to fill a form for them as well as attach their mrv payment receipts which was not available then on the site so i sent a mail explaining this to the help desk they then replied indicating that my request to input the details of my dependants has been approved so i went ahead to login and fill the necessary details .that's what i meant by approval stage i don't have any visible date or approval print out as that mail has long been deleted from my spam mail which all their emails comes to please can i still go ahead to sign up in the new site
