The HONDA Club by Cryomancer: 5:58pm On Sep 22 |
This page is dedicated to Honda enthusiasts around Nigeria to create a community where solutions and ideas can be shared based on over the years experience of using an Honda vehicle. As at date, I'm aware of the Volvo and Lexus community here on nairaland which has also metamorphosed into a bigger and more interactive community on Whatsapp which I was once part of. It would be a great idea if same can be replicated for Honda users as well. The floor is open to both current users and intending users of Honda to rob minds and also educate people about the amazing machine we are opportuned to own. Welcome. Luvinhubby Jceesquare Macmilla |

vivalavida:Every thread created about Honda have become redundant. The only partially active one is the "Maintenance Tips" thread. The purpose of this thread is for a social/advice/technical community. |

Instead of arguing, let's talk about catalyst converter. - What is catalyst converter? - functions and benefits - does it conserve fuel? - can you drive without it with no consequences? - Is there any benefits to decat your car? - what is the best way to decat and avoid check light? - Is decatting allowed in Nigeria? Let us argue/discuss this till someone with an actual issue comes. |
Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 9:09am On Oct 03 |
Macmilla:well, I'm sure catalytic converter reduce harmful emissions but as for conservation of fuel, it's still not clear |
Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 9:14am On Oct 03 |
I'm putting every effort to reduce the fuel consumption in my 2005 eod. 1) my radiator isn't follow come so it has no ect sensor 2. ( pls should I just change the radiator or I work in the sensor? ) 2) I'm at crossroads in-between getting a China catalyst or getter a spacer. ( pls which one is better as per consumption? ) |

Bola4boy: check your o2 sensors and air flow meter. you can buy the china catalyst. Scan the car and share the codes... 1 Like |
Re: The HONDA Club by Cryomancer: 11:52am On Oct 03 |
Macmilla: This catalytic converter issue is one topic that i find really amazing especially in Nigeria. Series of opinions have been gotten differently on it. Here isy submission: -Catalyst is purely an emission/climate control initiative -Catalyst in my own opinion helps with conservation of fuel because when your air/fuel mixture is correct, the ECU doesn't need to pump more fuel into the engine to gain optimum performance. However I think this relates to vehicles that have both upstream and downstream catalysts -Nigeria has a country doesn't have a strict emissions control body, therefore de-catting is indirectly encouraged. Also due to the price of catalyst in the market, you can get spacers as an alternative for catalyst but finding the one that works is a task these days. In my own case, I got a Chinese complete Catalyst, it does the job and the check engine light isn't showing on my dashboard but it gets corrupted after some time (2yrs) and then start to show check engine light. - Side note: When using an original complete Catalyst, it's also prone to getting blocked after few years and when not detected early, it causes serious damage to the engine if not careful. |
Re: The HONDA Club by Cryomancer: 12:05pm On Oct 03 |
Bola4boy: How did you come to the conclusion that the non follow come radiator might have a direct link with your fuel consumption? Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, of radiator has anything to do with fuel consumption, then it means you need to check if your thermostat is in place or your fan has been directly wired. Once your thermostat has been bypassed, your fan blows without stop and your engine can never attain optimum temperature in that manner, which in turn causes your ECU to send signal to burn more fuel to try to get the engine to its recommended temperature. Also, concerning getting a catalytic converter, if funds is not gonna be an issue, I'll advise you leave that spacer and get a china catalyst instead. I bought same and currently using it without any check engine lights on my dashboard. For fuel concerns, also try to look at your 02 sensors, EGR, injector head, plugs and ensure that they are all in perfect condition or else, some of these things if not in proper working condition might also impact negatively on your fuel consumption. Just scan the car, get codes if any, and treat them one after the other. I presently use EOD too, and I hope my little knowledge helps. |

Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 3:35pm On Oct 03 |
jceesquare:The radiator has a sensor called ect sensor 2. Macmillia will understand me cos he has encountered same issue. Just that I don't have the expertise to do what he did to resolve the issue that's why I'm thinking of just getting a new radiator with the follow come sensor. Another issue I have is the unstable rpm I experience. But once i detach the cold start sensor, the rpm will stabilize. I don't know if anyone has encountered such issue before |

Bola4boy: Oh.. Now I understand. Anyway this issue you narrated is not something I have any information about. Maybe other elders in the house can be of help. |
Re: The HONDA Club by jceesquare(m): 7:23am On Oct 04 |
Bola4boy:Not all Accord of that generation comes with the ECT 2 sensor. I also have a 7th gen Accord without the ECT 2 sensor. If yours comes with it, then I'd suggest you get a radiator that's compatible with it as that sensor helps with regulating your fans speed. For the cold start, I assume you're referring to the ECT 1. Scan the car for possible code related to it or test the resistance of the sensor with a multimeter. |
Re: The HONDA Club by Macmilla(m): 4:15pm On Oct 04 |
Bola4boy:Without a functional ECT sensor on your 2005 accord, your car is literally slowly dying. Please do everything you can to get it fixed, even if it means replacing the radiator with the correct one. Your ecu uses the information from the ECT to make adjustments to the running of the engine. There's something called closed loop and open loop. Your car will permanently be on open loop, which means dumping fuel in ur engine. Your current radiator should have fan switch in place of the ECT. The problem is that the ECT will not fit into the hole for the fan switch. So it is either you replace the whole radiator, or you find a way to convert the thread hole for the fan switch to fit the ECT. I had same problem a while ago and I actually converted the thread. I won't advice you to do what I did cos I can only trust myself to do such work well since a leaking radiator is equally a death sentence for your engine. Just replace your radiator ASAP for peace of mind. |
Re: The HONDA Club by Macmilla(m): 4:23pm On Oct 04 |
jceesquare:2003 and 2004 Honda Accord has a fan switch on the radiator. 2005 - 2007 has an ECT sensor on the radiator. If yours does not have ECT sensor, then it must be 2003 or 2004, or kazeem has made love to your car. |
Re: The HONDA Club by Macmilla(m): 4:25pm On Oct 04 |
Bola4boy:Please what exactly are you calling "cold start sensor". I'm very sure there's nothing with such name on Honda. |
Re: The HONDA Club by jceesquare(m): 4:45pm On Oct 04 |
Macmilla:Read my post again, but this time slowly. I have about 3 EOD's at my place for repairs at the moment and I can confirm that not all 7th gen Accord comes with the ECT 2 sensor. Rest. |

Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 5:42pm On Oct 04 |
Macmilla:Thanks MacMilla for your analysis. I read your post sometimes ago on how you tackled the issues with your honda accord 2005. I currently use same car and I'm battling with high fuel consumption. I believe the sensor on the radiator is ect sensor 2( it's absent in my own radiator) but the fan works when engine gets hot Another ect sensor at the engine area but our Kareem usually call it cold start. Now, my car rpm is unstable but when ever I remove this ect sensor, it balances but radiator fans will start working immediately and temperature guage won't work. I have replaced the sensor but same issue. I have a Bluetooth scanner, the codes I see is the one for downstream oxygen sensor and ect sensor 2 ( radiator own) Pls help me. Pls help me pls help me. Rewire said I should change brain box for the rpm to stabilize but I no gree. I'm ready to change the radiator tomorrow but what about the unstable rpm. And what other things should I do to save fuel? I need help |
Re: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 5:45pm On Oct 04 |
Also, my car no get catalyst. Should I get the spacer or buy China catalyst.? My fuel consumption is about 4km per liter for city drive. Sometimes less than that |
Re: The HONDA Club by jceesquare(m): 6:38pm On Oct 04 |
Conner44:I will indulge you this once. Pic 1 is a 2003 Honda Accord with a V6 engine and without an ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Pic 2 is a 2003 Honda accord with an i4 engine and with the ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Pic 3 is also another 2003 Honda Accord with an i4 engine and without an ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Those cars came that way and and not modified in anyway as confirmed from a live data stream. The fact that you've not seen it does not mean it does not exist. Get your fact right and stop misleading the public. Abi you go argue say not all of them comes with a MAF sensor as well?
