from the article of businessday, the largest pig farm in Nigeria (Oke-Aro Pig Farm)which is also the largest in west africa, manages around 240,000 pigs, and Ellah Lakes is presumed to have the ambition of competing with them.

No wahala.

Assumptions:

1. Reproduction rate: Let's assume sows produce 2 litters per year with an average of 10 piglets per litter.

2. Maturity: Pigs reach breeding age at about 6-8 months.
Gender ratio: Assume a 50/50 male/female split.

3. Mortality rate: Let's use a 10% annual mortality rate.

4. Selling/culling: Assume the farmer sells or culls 40% of the herd annually.

Let's calculate year by year:

Year 1:

>Starting population: 500

>Breeding sows (50% of 500): 250

>New piglets: 250 * 2 litters * 10 piglets = 5000

>Deaths: 10% of (500 + 5000) = 550

>Sold/culled: 40% of (500 + 5000 - 550) = 1980

>End of year population: 500 + 5000 - 550 - 1980 = 2970

Year 2:

>Starting population: 2970

>Breeding sows: 1485

>New piglets: 1485 * 2 * 10 = 29700

>Deaths: 10% of (2970 + 29700) = 3267

>Sold/culled: 40% of (2970 + 29700 - 3267) = 11761

>End of year population: 2970 + 29700 - 3267 - 11761 = 17642

Year 3:

>Starting population: 17642

>Breeding sows: 8821

>New piglets: 8821 * 2 * 10 = 176420

>Deaths: 10% of (17642 + 176420) = 19406

>Sold/culled: 40% of (17642 + 176420 - 19406) = 69,862

>End of year population: 17642 + 176420 - 19406 - 69862 = 104,794

Fun fact:
litter refers to a group of young animals born to a mother at one time. A typical pig litter can range from 8 to 12 piglets, though it can be smaller or larger.

Now, would you like me to analyze the numbers? Should I calculate revenue, costs, and profit? grin grin cheesy shocked shocked

By the way, didn't you mention somewhere that you were raised on a farm in Kaduna or somewhere similar?

You haven't seen anything. Ask farmers in the southern United States about wild pig infestations. They're constantly killing these pigs by the hundreds as the animals destroy farmland. In those areas, farmers beg people to hunt and kill as many pigs as possible. grin grin cheesy

Yes I am a farmer from dad and expirence but crop farmer.i no sabi animal farm or farming. Though I will venture into it next yr but will go for seminars and will equally employ the service of someone way sabi.I only buy like 5 weeks chicken and feed it to 10 weeks and above before I chop the broiler because many poultry around no dey allow the meat strong before they begin sell.
I am interested in pig/egg laying bird because many are now backing out of the business because of cost of feed. And me I am now seeing it as opportunity to go in mostly the egg own

Better money dey agric. My problem is come open with investors because I don't want digital agriculture because na scam. Show every thing black and white so that different people who want to go in will know the growth stage and patience they should be expecting. I am an investor not a trader. You know presco came from behind to over take okumu oil but it was white and black.People keyed in at different stage but it was physical investment on ground .I saw the farm documentary on air and pictures at different time. Then we started seeing the products from the farms in the market too.

some pple are angry with themselves for missing Oando so they are eyeing Nascon/DS "dangotefood" cheesy

Technically, Nascon price already below strong support levels so I expect more downward price but if price could mange move above 40 then this could change story.

DS still trying to move to the strong support at 32/33 levels before deciding further move cheesy H1 numbers not attractive undecided

unlike the DS/Nascon waiting for good news to surprise the mkt, one particular stock may even do better... fundamentally bedsheet look good and TA indicated ready to fly, while am still in waiting it already added some weight since my bedsheet notice it sad....embarassed the stock in the same sector will likely follow this stock to fly as indicated by the chat grin

anyway Q3 around the conner for better clarity

Note; still sitting on cash, patiently waiting sideline with my oga Agba watching as one/two stock trader no day rush

nobody can timing the market but some time little patient catch big fish., I learned to patiently waiting to see price at my TA entry level or close to after carefully analyse and okay with the numbers in my bedsheet but in a situation where price fail to reach my entry levels and move awa...y breakout upward to the levels of no returns, I will not look back to what I have miss rather than joining the bus.

DS, currentprice is around 41, the FA appears okay for the price, am i going to enter @ cp? No... because my TA entry price is around 32/33.... but if it fail to reach the levels due to sudden positive news and price start rising then my TA okay to join @ a breakout of N61 cheesy... i will still make my own gain grin

I made a post on interbrew that it was not a buy stock...some sweet mouthing abi monkey hunting the stock with big big grammar grin, today the stock still trading at N4.... I still maintain I can buy the stock above N20 when the sign show.

You see why I see opportunity in it.It is no longer business for everyone which made the selling of the egg sometimes difficult. People are even going around to look for whr to buy in farm because many are now into broiler for 5 weeks to sell
