IJAW FOODS.

"ONUNU."

Called Kpangbudu by Arogbo-ijaws, Onunu by the Kalabari-Ijaws, known as Ipopoburu by Okrika-Ijaws, Ebubu by Nembe-Ijaws and fondly called Opopo by the Ibani-Ijaw people.

Onunu is a traditional delicacy of the Ijaws.

This Ijaw very rich meal is a mixture of over riped plantain and yam boiled and pounded together with a little salt and the best quality palm oil to blend.

Onunu is best served with a spicy fish pepper soup, yellow soup or native stew.

You want to learn how to prepare ONUNU?

Here are the ingredients and method of preparation.

INGREDIENTS
•Yam
•Ripe plantain
•Palm oil

Method:

Put the yam to boil, when it has cooked right about halfway, add the ripe plantains.

Before you pound ensure that both the yams and the plantains have cooked through till soft.

Start to pound the yam first because of its pulp and stretchy nature, once almost smooth, add the ripe plantain.

Once you have gotten both ingredients to a smooth consistency, add a little salt and palm oil.

The mash is still hot, which will take away the curdling taste of palm oil.

Finish off the pounding, until the palm oil properly mixes well, changing the colour to yellow.
Excellence! Your delicious Onunu is ready.

It is not only an Ijaw meal but the Ikwerres eat it too. Infact they claim it's one of their traditional foods and it's right there in history books.

Ijaw people didn't cultivate yam in the past.

There's nothing special about this meal, just another way to eat yam and plantain both very starchy foods. There's nothing nutritious about this meal, it's just another way to get pot belly and diabetes. We are in the 21st century and most of us are educated, its high time we start applying some of that education rather than continuing with old traditions that are unhealthy. Eat salad, include grains, fruits, vegetables, protein and drink lots of water.
I concur, however, one can still eat healthy swallow in the form of ground oat and efo Riro or edi kang kong.

The fish is okay. But the swallow should be unripe plantain or wheath or millet

I totally disagree with you on this. Base on the ingredients used, this meal is natural and healthy for human consumption. Rather, you should tell us to use our so-called "education" to avoid all those processed and packaged foods with chemical additives. Any food prepared with natural ingredients is healthy for the body.

God bless you. I was asked to eat heavy food like this, proteins with veg and fruits after a surgery, because I was becoming anorexic.
I was able to gain weight after a month after heavy follow up from a dietitian.

Nah salad go make me gain weight?
The problem with many people is they discover a thing that works for them and think it must be true for everyone
After a certain age if you are not physically active you should cut down carbohydrates but everyone is different

Yams and plantain in moderation can protect against bowel cancer
Google it
Moderation is key

A food processor is an electrical machine that cuts, slices and has the ability to pound food. With it you can pound your yam and don’t have to worry about women fighting to marry you.

Wouldn't it be a delight seeing women fighting to marry him

Some of you Igbos are very troublesome. Did he mention Ijaw calabar or Ijaw Onitsha? People from the places he mentioned are not complaining, it's you from Abia, Anambra, Imo or Enugu that's taking things very personal.

Both my maternal and paternal grandparents lived well into their 90's and hundreds in good health and without all these common illnesses that are rampant today so I know what I am saying. Even my dad is presently in his 90's and he is in top shape for his age. They all went on natural foods and where in unity with their environments.

My own dad is 92, his mother died when he was 78 that means the mama too must have lived into her 90s or hundred. But how many of them in those days lived that long? Only a few.

Look around you. People are living longer, mainly because of modern medicine. Don't be surprised you might live to be older than those your grandparents. Unless you suffer a trauma, which wasn't common in their own days because of their easy lives, and not because of their diet.

For him, “education” means doing whatever white people do.

So maybe he’s also gay or LGBTQ, or fcks his sister and cousin, which is common among whites.
