BlueRayDick: It is what it is. Like Diddy said, I tell it how it is and you tell it how it might be. There are countless examples of young people being interned, I'm surprised that you are surprised. FGC PH students are very familiar with being interned in Bori Camp in my time, they will just come and round up anyone they see, same way Comprehensive students in my hood in Borokiri are regular in Navy Camp. We are talking 13 to 17 year olds, no be anything special, na Naija we dey talk. While this lady go on Twitter like it's something unheard of, these incidents na wetin my guys dey use joke today like "Remember when Bori Camp soldiers round us up that time, carry us go sanko and X and Y father had to come and get us released". God forbid they even catch you outside without exiat, you go swap dormitory for cell. 2 Likes |

Ibime: Well, maybe because we grew up in different cities and at different times sha . Growing up in Lagos, the only reasons u will get rounded up and locked up by the police are : 1. You get arrested when police carry out raids on Game Center’s where gambling on video games ,table tennis , snooker and whot are being carried out . 2. You get caught up in a fight between ur secondary school and another secondary school or outsiders which members of the community called the police to come and break up. In each of the instances above , u will hear an earful from ur parents when they eventually secure ur release from the police cell cos u have just brought shame and disgrace to ur family . Parents care about what neighbors gossip concerning the behavior of their kids and are always embarrassed for being put in such position by their kids . Now to the boy arrested , that’s an all time low for the Nigerian police . Even me that was already an adult and a 200level student in the university when I was arrested , the whole thing was traumatizing for me and my parents . Imagine my parents having to find their way to police station around 12 am to 12.30am in the middle of the night only to be told their son whom police randomly picked on the street around 9.30pm to 9.45pm cannot be released until next morning . Prior to that time, we all thought only people who have committed a crime or misdemeanor get arrested and locked up by the authorities . We didn’t know police authorities make random arrest of people just to farm bail money for themselves . So, I can imagine the rude shock the boy’s parents would’ve experienced seeing their 15 year old boy being detained in a foul smelling police detention facility . Even me , when I was released I left home for school same day and didn’t return home for a long time cos I was traumatized by the whole incident . Till date , I get nervous when I see any commercial bus slowly moving with its full light in my direction in the night. I sometimes freak out not because of robbers but because of policemen. 🤦♂️ 4 Likes 1 Share |

BlueRayDick: You must have grown up in an extremely ajebutter part of Lagos. Because for the Lagos wey i grow up dem dey round up boys for bus stop o. Pre-GSM days boys dey last 1 week inside cell if dey are roaming at the wrong time or in the wrong place. You don't have to be in a game/snooker center or caught up in a fight, although those situations increase your risk. 2 Likes |

BlueRayDick: i regularly take my son with me on domestic errands. police stop us to greet me, smile and ask anything for the boys i always tell him - if you are the one driving this car and you are not with me they WILL stop you and harass you they will not be smiling. you will see them in their real element, feral greedy, violent and cruel as a young male in nigeria - police want and expect you to be doing yahoo so they can shake you down they want to catch you with contraband so they can arrest you and shake you down. you have to be constantly paranoid i also warn the boy about being out late after dark for the same reason. and to be very careful whee he hangs out. people play basketball in shoprite festac - but even i can see the place is now a den of drug dealers. he plays ball there and told me that yes - people approached him to sell drugs to him and of course, nigeria police will take any excuse to run around arresting people if there is a robbery in the area - they will round people up if it is christmas eve- they will round people up - one year my 10 year old cousin was arrested for selling banger and we had to go to the station to bail her out if you are out late at night - they can round you up on top of that we all know that police profile people. you drive a lexus or corolla - you are a yahoo boy. you carry dreads, you are a yahoo boy. even i profile males i come across this cartoon may make it clearer - which is why ibime said as a certified ajebo the boy simply should not have been outside alone . nigerian police do not like the smoke that comes with 'children of pesin'. if the boy had been in a car with the driver the police would immediately have profiled him as big man pikin. in fact as a naija matter i am surprised that the police saw the boys oyibo father and still insisted on hanging on to the boy. that does not track at all. oyibo man in naija is the top strata of society and can get away with anything and are extremely well connected. i who as an oyel employee had former police commissioner number - now an oyibo man with multiple friends in senior mgt positions in corporate nigeria?

GloriousGbola: If u don enter police cell , they have 100% power over u o. If u don’t come with military personnel who are willing to cause havoc at the station , forget it u will be at the mercy of the policemen while in their facility . I’m sure the woman and the husband were too traumatized to be flexing power about who and who they know at that point. They only want their teenage child who must have had his belt taken off , his shirt taken off or turned inside out and being made to sit on the bare floor . As a parent if u see ur teenage son in that condition , all u will want to do is get him out of there ASAP and think of dealing with the policemen later 4 Likes 1 Share |

afrodoc2: That time it wasn’t a regular occurrence that is done arbitrarily on a daily basis with the intent of extorting people of bail money . From the little I can remember then, people get rounded up where there’s a major fracas in an area or there’s a consistent report of crime in an area . |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 4:07am On Dec 17 |
BlueRayDick: I have no doubt that it is happening more frequently now but it has always being happening. I know several people it happened to in different formats. What has been happening for years is just a stone’s throw away from the kidnap for ransom that we are now seeing from proper criminals. 2 Likes |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 5:07am On Dec 17 |
BlueRayDick: Maybe. Cos "Roger" was a thing since i was a kid. After the game centers that you mentioned and of course beer parlors and ashawo joints the most dangerous place for a Lagos youth was bus stops after dark. Especially those ones where people are gathered round reading newspapers and discussing the situation of the country. There is an uncountable number of crazy things that happen in Naija, just that the part you experience might be different from what another person will experience. |

BlueRayDick: These guys do not live in the skies. They live within and amongst us, and are our neighbours. The funny thing is, I've never seen this my neighbour in police uniform. He's always fashionably decked in casuals especially jeans and t-shirts/polo with his signature papa's cap. In fact, until my friend casted him, I thought he was a car dealer cos once in a while, he'll bring a tokunbo car into the compound, park it and after a while, it'd be gone. This year alone, he's brought an RX 350, Toyota Sienna and Acura MDX into the compound and they all disappeared after a few weeks. Perhaps, he truly deals in cars and does procurement for people as a side hustle, who knows. But there were clues. His car has a reverse camera on it (which is a rarity in my town) so he's clearly security conscious cos of the nature of his job, and I once overheard him talking on phone and telling the person. to write a petition and submit it at state command. The emboldened may not far from the truth. I heard about the raiding of a house in my area recently by anti-cult squad and how a particular guy was beaten and whisked away. |

BlueRayDick: The bolded is so true. One time like that, my guy went to INEC office for Okene to get his Voter's card. He was told his Voter's card was not available. For more than five years, yet, it's not available for collection. Along the line, he had serious misunderstanding with the staff, exchanging words with them (Obviously, that's their modus- operandi. Only God knows why). So, along the line, they called the security personnel and they picked up my guy. We were in the field around 4pm when my guy called telling us to show for police station that he has been detained. Three of us went with our jerseys on. We were told the story that ensued and the need to bail him with 15k. None of us came with cash. To transfer, no. Ok, let one of us withdraw for POS nearby, Omo, these guys in black uniforms refused any of us leaving the premise for any reason at all. It's either we bail him right now or join him in the cell. Which kain wahala be dis We had to call someone to help us withdraw money and bring it for us. Those people are monster. They need serious reform. It's that bad!!! 2 Likes |

Nigerian Police that would go on mass arrest, get to the station, take one innocent soul from the mass arrest and exchange the person with the child of a big shot who has committed a crime... There's no greater criminal organization in the country..None at all.. |

reccy: This is funny Lawyers on twitter hardly agree on anything but they all unanimously agree they don't like any case that takes them to the police station. This egi nupe guy recently said he will stop taking cases that involve the police. When lawyers are saying this, then you know there's a serious problem. |

iamoyindamola: It's something like that sha. It's actually funny. But we all know they need the money and fear the unknown if we were allowed outside. But where I don't get is the logic behind this. Because if we had the motive to disrupt their game, we would have planned it before coming. Police is never anyone's friend!!! |
