Spreading the message against the excesses of some of these pastors remains a good way to stop them but the content of the message should be constructed with utmost wisdom so that the aim will not be defeated. Nigerians follow pastors like mumu. Pastor is God to them. Recently i was arguing with a friend that he should follow what the bible said than what his pastor said concerning one particular issue he had. He said he ll rather follow the pastor. Meanwhile his pastors stand runs contrary with what the bible said. Its that bad. So play safe bro. God bless you.

That's why I said wisdom should be applied. Preaching against tithe will receive hard knocks that will make it crumble but preaching against the excesses of pastors in influencing people's offering to God will make more impact. Infact, concentrating on the new testament position on giving/offering will make more impact without even hammering on the word- "tithe". I prefer the later.

first of all i m not a pastor, im only a brother like you. Hope u went to church yeaterday... pls tell us how much u gave as offering yesterday, thats going to expand the church of Jesus Christ just the way banks are expanding today.

Look if u are not with us then u are against us, You have no problem the way banks charge u but when it comes to churches that care for your spiritual needs... you want it free.

Tithe is a command which was given in old testament just like 10 commandment was given in old testament or dont you obey 10 commandments?

From the beginning of time God has required offerings as an expression of submission and obedience. Those who wanted to enter into covenant with Him had to be willing to pay the price. They had to prove their devotion and commitment to Him, not once, but over and over again. He didn’t require them because He needed them, but because men needed to be willing to give them. The willingness to give to God is one of the few things that put us in a place where we can appreciate the value of what God is offering us, not just in time, but also in eternity.

God wants to change us from what we are into who He is. He wants to conform us to the image of His Son. He wants us to be partakers of His nature, to share in Who He is and what He does. That’s His covenant offer, His conditional promise. And He promises to do His part, but only if we’re willing to submit to what He requires.

When you look at psalms 50; God said
[b] verse 5. "Gather together those who have responded to My grace, those who have entered into covenant with Me by their offerings."

Verse 20-22 "Then Jacob made a vow, saying, Since God is with me to keep me in this course of life that He has promised and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear and will bring me back to my father’s house in safety, the Lord will be my God. And this stone which I have set as a monument will be the house of God and of all the increase You give me I will surely give the tenth to You."

This is Matthew 23:23.
