I agree with you; but you know what?

if it wasn't mentioned, you'd see this thread will be on page 10 with posters saying it must have been an Igbo General...

I mean.... although his region was stated in the article as south-west, yet some embarrassed ones are already denying the General....

again, if it was left to speculation...

and though it is given that the record is clear on:

1. General Ogundepe (running away from responsibility - out of Nigeria - during a coup),
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babafemi_Ogundipe

2. General Obasanjo (taking a bullet in his bum-cheek, for leading from his rear during the civil war; and being MIA during a coup years later)
See: http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/06/20/obasanjo-was-a-clueless-war-commander-gen-alabi-isama/

3. General Adekunli (fleeing, scared for his life, after losing 21,500 of the 35,000 "strong" men he was leading from the rear)
See: https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl

4. General Diya (weeping profusely and shitting his camouflage,)
See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/1076194.stm

5. Lt. Colonel Adebayo Obasanjo, a commander I believe: fleeing rag tag BK, fearful to take one in his rear like his father
See: http://allafrica.com/stories/201409111538.html

...it is a safe bet to place that an anonymous General wey dey fear fear will be from a certain part of the country...

it still beats me why or how some civilians can through their ewedu-stenched breath call others names!
HopeAtHand:
Yorubas naturally love to enjoy
life..and one has to be alive to enjoy.

The military is not for faint hearted. And frankly, the journalist shouldnt have pointed out the home region of the general, its not what we need at this point in time.

This Thread sweet die.
No be the content oo but the argument. grin

Well the bitter truth is that We are Nigerians, most Nigerians are sentimental i don't think there is any need for us to start insulting each other..
Whether the General is from - South west, south south, south east, north central or north east, the truth is that he is a Nigerian, instead of debating where he is from we should join hands with our security forces to envelop this cankerworm (terrorism) that has eaten the lives of countless Nigerians.
Tribalism is not just a state but also a way of life, that stem from a strong feeling of identity with and strong loyalty to one’s own tribe. As I have grown and matured through the years, I must say of all the problems plaguing my Dear country Nigeria I feel tribalism is one of the worst and I believe it is the father of almost every other problem in Nigeria.

No one is born a tribalist rather the idea of tribalism (consciously or unconsciously) is implanted in the head of a child by mostly both his parents and relatives. The family plays a huge role in the stereotyping of other tribes. Tribalism is passed onto children by words of the mouth even when in most cases; the statements are just a figment of our imaginations. So, by the time this children grow up they think tribe A are lazy, while tribe B practice juju a lot or tribe C are thieves. You have instances whereby they say tribe D have very possessive men while women in tribe E are not faithful and would disappear with your kids. A friend of mine once said he likes me as a brother but hates my tribe and I responded saying; If you hate what I represent then you hate me and how do you expect me to be comfortable with you without having the fear of been stereotyped. It is believed tribal parents cannot raise non-tribal children-I beg to differ! If truly you want to see this country move forward, kindly watch what you say to your children about other tribes because in your bid to do the right thing, you might just we spreading more ignorance… Thank you very much. The idea that since we have a couple of friends from other tribes who do not take our little tribalist comments seriously then it is not a big deal is wrong because word turn into actions and by the time we get into political offices then we might end up practicing fully fledged tribalism.

I honestly don't have time to start quoting each and every one of the primeval stark illiterate bums who quoted me. However, I'll make it a tutoring session, about how to read, and comprehend. And hopefully, you stark illiterates will learn, and make judicious use of this, in your everyday lives. My service to humanity, and contribution to your pathetic lives.

First excerpt:

Vanguard gathered that the senior officer who hails from one of the states in the South West, was the officer coordinating the military onslaught to dislodge several Boko Haram terrorists from Bama, Gwoza, Madagali, Michika and other communities in Borno and Adamawa states that later fell into the hands of the terrorists.

The General was accused of providing poor leadership and failed to instil confidence in the soldiers, resulting in several soldiers allegedly abandoning the fight against the terrorists while several of them lost their lives.

^^^^This shows that the General in question is the head of the high command, which should either be a Military Division or a Brigade, with a lot of battalions. A Division or Brigade should have one overall commander - Major General or Brigadier General. And commanders heading different battalions, and the commanders for battalions are usually Lt Colonels And he was accused of providing poor leadership from the high command, to the people on the front line.

Second Excerpt:

According to the source, when the Boko Haram insurgents came in full force to attack Bama, some top brass of the unit offered no resistance by running into the bush.

Vanguard was told that some of the commanders were rescued from the bush by a battalion deployed at Konduga, which was stationed about 15 kilometers behind Bama, the last deployment before Maiduguri.

^^^ Then article clearly stated that some not one of the commanders ran into the bush. And alluded to commanders in the second sentence. Evidently, if he's the only one being court martialled - and not the some i.e commanders, that shows he's being made to take responsibility for cowardice of the commanders under him, as the overall boss, for poor overall leadership. Hence the article stated that clearly, and never alluded to the General running, apart from the misleading title.

If he were among the commanders who ran into the bush(es), why's he the only one being court martialled, and not all of them? It's just common sense that the charges him have nothing to do with him running (which I doubt), and more to do with probably a compromise of the high command.

Education 101, stark illiterates. Thank me later! cool

Truth be told, some Yoruba sub groups can be very cowardly especially Shymexx's sub group. They will only fight when there is no other option left.

There have been brave Yoruba soldiers in time past - Adekunle,Obasanjo Snr,Fajuyi(who chose to die with Ironsi even though he didnt have to),Ademulegun etc and there still are - Maj Gen Henry Ayoola who restored normalcy to Jos, Lt Col Adeboye Obasanjo etc

Aigbofa, can you see why I always defend the Ijebus now?

Anyway, I'll educate the airhead, and pedo just for today.

Yes, Ijebus are cowards. However, when Yorubas were in disarray with no sense of leadership. An Ijebu son, Awolowo started the Egbe Omo Oduduwa, which later became the Action Group. And I don't even care about what your subgroup is, but you will never create another Awolowo.

Wole Soyinka, one of your biggest bragging rights, is an Ijebu son.

Again when Yorubas were in disarray, another Ijebu son, Abraham Adesanya, took the mantle of leadership and led by example.

In GEJ's government, the only performing Minister, the Minister of Agriculture, is an Ijebu son.

Yorubas have six people among the 10 richest in Nigeria, and four of them are Ijebus. Heck, Adebayo Ogunlesi, who bought Gatwick Airport is also an Ijebu son. I can go on and on. Without Ijebus, I doubt Yorubas would even have that much of a bragging right within Nigeria. So, respect them because they represent the voice of the Yorubas.

I was expecting something like this you said!

or more like "Diya is not a Yoruba name... both his parents are Igbo and they gave him Yoruba name because he came to Yoruba land and we (kind yorubas) gave him free food for his belly, clothing for his back and a roof (no pun intended)over his head..."

.

But you can't call Ijebu cowards, that's not right. Ijebus are no warriors, but they were the only Yoruba subgroup that fought a war with the colonial masters - the Anglo-Ijebu war. And which Yoruba group offered any resistance to British rule, apart from the Ijebus who actually fought? - stop trying to re-write history!

Yes, Ijebus never really fought that many wars, because they preferred isolation. And they weren't that much of a warring group, apart from the skirmishes between the Egbas and different Ijebu subgroups. However, both Oyo, and Ibadan had different Ijebu warriors who fought for them.

Anyway, Wole Soyinka is an Ijebu man. His dad was an Ijebu man.

It's cool.

Anyway, I'll just say you lot need to stop all these nonsense about Ijebus being cowardly, wicked, selfish etc.. I honestly don't know who keeps indoctrinating you lot with useless jejune tales. However, you're old enough to read and discern things for yourself.

How can Ijebus be cowardly, when they were the only Yoruba subgroup, pre-Nigeria, that was never dominated by any other group, and they lived in their own Kingdom, by themselves? Egbas were under Oyo. Eko was under Bini. The Yorubas in Ondo were under Bini. And the rest of the Yoruba subgroups were under Oyo. Only Ijebus lived in an Ijebu Kingdom, and flourished. Then when the British came - only the Ijebus also fought against them, the rest never did.

As for the nonsense about being wicked and selfish - which other Yoruba subgroup has produced more people who have sacrificed their lives, for the Yoruba cause, than the Ijebus? Yet they're wicked and selfish. They gave Eko a culture to be proud of. Gave the Egbas a system of government. Contributed immensely to a lot of things that are now quintessentially Yoruba. However, all they always get back is hate. Just stop it!

I'm out!

You are mixing history up, dude. It was the Egbas led by Madam Tinubu who offered the most significant recorded resistance to British colonial rule and not the Ijebus.

Lmao...so because the woman who used to be a slave trader, decided to start campaigning against slave trading - and that automatically means Egbas resisted British Colonial rule, no? Can you cite any war in the annals of history she fought against Brits, or which the Egbas fought, before signing any document to become part of Nigeria? But I can post how Egbas converted to Christianity, and asked the Brits for help in fighting both Dahomey and Ibadan.

In case you want to know which Yoruba subgroup actually offered resistance to colonial rule, and went to war against the Brits. Google Anglo-Ijebu war (Imagbon war). That's enough education for today. And I'm a quarter Egba, and I love all Yoruba groups. But you lot need to let the Ijebus be, and stop re-writing history.

VirginFinder and the rest of the haters, I just remembered something.

Let me also help you with just three cowardly young Ijebu sons in diaspora, who're pace setters. Too many to name, but I'll just name three:

1). John Dabiri, a professor of aeronautics and bioengineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). A real scientist with a few patents to his name. And he was named as one of Popular Science magazine's "Brilliant 10" scientists in the world in 2008.

2). John Boyega, the next Denzel Washington, from Peckham.

3). David Alaba of Bayern Munich, the best left back in the world, and one of the best footballers in the world. In case you don't know, his father is Ijebu.

Classic examples of Ijebu cowardice in diaspora, by young Ijebu sons, below 35.

Ijebus dont take a permanent stand on an issue. They'll take you unawares if you are not careful.

No hard feeling against Ijebus though, my niece is one etc

Mind you, Wole Soyinka is from Abeokuta. He is an Egba man.

I know SOYINKA's mum is from ISARA REMO(IJEBU REMO); don't know of the father.
but the name SOYINKA is synonymous with the IJEBUs

Hahaha!!! You know what's funny? The realization that where you're from, hunks have pot bellies. Say hi to the rest of the colony for me.
