'Tara, you are doing very great and I love it', Joel told her after her anti-natal check-up. Tara beamed at Joel with so much happiness he nearly kissed her.
'How about my baby?', she asked as she unconsiously touched her stomach with her left hands.
'The fetus is doing very great', Joel announced.
'Joel, I'm I still on bedrest?'
'Although both you and the baby are good, I advice you wait for another week or two for me to confirm that you are fine'
'okay, thank you', Tara stood up and bade Joel goodbye.
'I will be expecting you next thursday then'
she stepped out of his office to see Shan waiting expectedly. Tara had told her to stay back at home so as to accompany her to the hospital after which they would go out to shop, visit the park and spent the day together. Shan had been very excited. She carefully dressed in a pink dress and a black sandals.
'Ta, where should we go first? I have never been to a zoo before but I will prefer we go to the boutique first'
'Is that what you want Shan?'
'Yep'
'Then to the boutique we go', Hand in hand, they walked to their car and boarded it. Tara instructed the driver to take them to a shopping malk she had once visited with Linda. Shan pleaded with Tara to give her back her uniforms.
'All the kids in school have atleast five pairs. Please let me have my other three pairs back'
'okay , on one condition, you will wash and iron them yourself. Agreed?'
'Yes Tara', Shan excitedly flung herself on Tara. The driver only smiled to himself. He stopped at a very big shopping complex and the girls alighted. She excitedly walked in with Tara. While Shan picked dresses, shoes and nighties, Tara concentrated more on sexy lingeries and night wears. She intended making Jordan loose his mind
'Ta, why don't you get something for uncle Jo?'
Tara stilled as it dawned on her that she didn't know her husband's size.
'I will do it some other time'
'why not now?', Tara wondered how it would sound admitting she didn't know her husband's size.
'Come on Shan, we are wasting time. Don't forget that you've never been to the zoo'
Together, they walked out to the parking lot and were immediately sorrounded by camera men(Tara soon named them, 'the roaring Lions'). It was sudden and it took Tara unawares.
'Mr Nicholas, why have you suddenly come out of hiding?', A plump woman of about twenty eight asked while shoving a speaker towards Tara. Both Tara and Shan fidgeted. Their part was blocked by the journalists and photographers. Tara stared hard at them as she kept reminding herself not to make a fool out of herself.
'Mrs. Nicholas, we heard that your husband kicked you out of his house and you sought refuge with your half brother?'
'Thats a lie, you are all lairs, stop attacking Tara', Shan shouted into the speakers.
'And who are you?', A deep male voice asked.
'Mrs Nicholas, whose money did your mother stole and how are you coping with your illegitimate birth?', a young man asked an enraged Tara
'Now you listen to me, my mother didn't steal any money'
'Are you sure?', Tara looked dangerously at the men and women around her. Her eyes glared angrily at them.
'The publisher of that paper has two weeks to prove the allegation against my mother or publicly apologize to me'
'And if not?'
'I will destroy him'
'Mrs Nicholas, is that a threat?'
'Its an advice', with that, Tara pushed her way into the crowd with Shan at her heels.
'Take me home', Tara said to the driver as a tear rolled down her cheeks.
She didn't sign in for this kind of life. She didn't want to have anything to do with these selfish 'Lions'.

'Tara will come around', Henry told Jordan later that evening over a bottle of wine.
'When will she do that? She is practically not talking to me', jordan shot at Henry. His attention got caught by the Television at the right side of the bar.
'Oh my God!', Jordan exclaimed. Henry followed his gaze to the TV. They watched Tara's encounter with dread.
'She must be upset now', Henry declared. They paid their bills and left the bar to Henry's house.

Henry and Jordan met Shan in the living room studying. Seeing them, Shan went quickly to her feet and greeted them.
'Where is she?', Jordan asked Shan.
'She's in the bedroom', Jordan strolled towards the room. Shan attempted following him but Henry held her back.
'Why don't you give Jordan time with Tara while you tell me all that had happened today?'
Jordan heard Shan's intake of breath as she began narating to Henry. He walked into the room and found Tara lying on her stomach. She was already in her pyjamas and seemed to have already slept off. He sat down on the bed, bent and kissed her ear. Tara pretended to be sleeping. She was not ready to confront Jordan yet.
'I saw you on TV today. I am so sorry you went through it all. I know you are not sleeping Tara, damn you talk to me'
When she didn't respond, he stood up and went to the door.
'Pack your things Tara, your stay here is over. I'm picking you up on friday', with that, he stormed out of the room. He walked pass Henry and Shan to the cold air outside.
'I guess Tara has made him angry again', Shan told Henry.
'You are right Shan, Tara is making a big deal out of nothing'
'What do you mean by that uncle Henry?'
'Its nothing Shan', He told a confused Shan.

Jordan had woken up at exactly 6am. He bathed, got dressed, put on his shoes and quickly walked downstairs with his laptop and briefcase. He had decided to eat at the office as he was already runing late. He was about driving out when he saw two men in uniform. A third man was behind them. He recognised the third as the detective incharge of Tara's case. Jordan alighted from his car with a frown on his face.
'Mr Nicholas goodmorning', detective Samuel greeted.
'To what do I owe this visit?'
'We are here to arrest Amanda Patrick for attempted murder'
'On who?'
'On Tara, your wife. It was Amanda that poisoned your wife's milk'
'Are you sure?'
' Yes, we have the evidence with us'
jordan saw stars. He pictured Tara on her knees, clutching her stomach. He heard her screams and saw her slumped into oblivion. His body began shaking. His eyes turned red and he swore.
'I will kill you Amanda', he said and turned towards the house.
The three men followed him. Jordan took the staircase two at a time, he flung open Amanda's door and found her fully dressed for work.
Amanda saw Jordan's blood shot eyes and fearfully retreated. He was faster than her. He slapped her, the ferocity of it sent her to the tiled floor. He intended beating her up when detective Samuel held him back.
'Think about what you are doing Jordan. Get hold of your temper and allow us do our part'
Jordan slapped her again. It took the combine efforts of Samuel's escorts to hold Jordan.
'Miss Amanda Patrick, you are under arrest for attempting to murder Mrs. Nicholas. You have the right to remain silent as anything you say might be used against you in the court of law'
'how dare you arrest me? Do you know who I am? My daddy will make sure you get kicked out into the streets. Your days as detective are numbered'
Detective Samuel forcefully handcuffed her and led her to the car. The two men with him released Jordan. Amanda was transported to the station. Jordan vowed to make sure justice takes its course.

Barrister Kelvin dropped the phone. He had just received a call from Kaduna. Amanda Patrick has been arrested and her father was already making the anticipated move. He's got men upstairs who were doing everything possible to get his daughter out of the station. Kelvin smiled to himself. Everything was going according to plan.
One thing Jordan didn't know was that he was dealing with powerful politicians. Only Kelvin could stop them. Tara was more powerful than Jordan and with Kelvin's help, Amanda would be dealt with accordingly. Kelvin summoned his secretary. She appeared immediately.
'Jane, put a call through to my wife, tell her to pack a suitcase for me. Book a plane for me to Abuja, call the firm, tell them to get ready the best lawyers we have, our boss and her husband will need them soon', Jane noded and walked away.
'It has finally began', Kelvin said to himself.

'Can't I stay here a little longer?', Tara asked Henry.
'No Tara, you can't. Amanda has been arrested. You are now free to go home'
'Okay sir'
Henry looked tenderly at his sister. She wasn't helping her marriage at all. Linda had tried talking to her but she was adamant.
'Tara, you are now married. You have responsibilities to your husband. Pack your bags and leave'
'Jordan treats me like a child and not a wife'
'Then show him you are no child. You are a woman, you should know how to do it. Fight for your husband Tara, fight for your marriage'. You had better start packing, Jordan will be here in an hour'
Tara, knowing she had been defeated stood up and began packing Shan's suitcases. Her driver had been instructed to transport her to Jordan's house from school. Packing Shan's belonging proved difficult and time consuming.
'Do you need help?'
She heard Jordan's deep voice from behind. Tara slowly turned her head towards him.
'I'm good'
'you are not Tara, you look tired. You should rest, I will finish up everything', He said while walking into the room. He pulled her to him and kissed her nose
'I miss you my sweet'
Tara smiled. She walked to the bed and lie down. She felt very tired. Tara watched her husband swiftly packing. This tall handsome man was her husband. She smiled happily.

Tara walked into their room, a maid brought in her suitcase and Jordan walked in beaming and her.
'you can give Shan whatever spare room you wish, I'm off to work'
'Thank you Jordan'
'For what?'
'For everything'
'Tara, can we give our marriage a second chance? Lets start all over again'
'you are right Jordan, we started on the foot'
'Does that mean you've forgiven me?'
'Yes Jordan, I already did'
'In that case, I intend spending the whole of today with you and Shan. You should rest while I go pick her from school', He kissed her hungrily before leaving.
No sooner had he left, Tara went into the bathroom for a quick shower. She dressed in a loose fitted short red dress and began reading a magazine when a knock came at her door.
'Sorry to disturb you ma'am, there is a man downstairs. He said he is here to see you'
'What is his name?'
'Kelvin Lucas'
Tara frowned, she had never heard of that name in her life.
'I will be down shortly'
The maid left. A curios Tara stood up and walked down the stairs. At the living room, she met with kelvin. Tara looked at him, no, she didn't know him. What did he want with her? Seeing her, Kelvin went to his feet.
'Good day Mrs. Nicholas, I am Barrister Kelvin Lucas'
'Good afternoon Mr Lucas, I believe I don't know you. What can I do for you?'
'We have been looking for you Tara, sit down, we need to talk'
'Looking for me? Why? And I can't remember permiting you to call my name'
'Sorry ma'am, actually, I'm here to talk about your mother, Mrs. Annabel David. I need you to co-operate with me'
Tara lept to her feet, she walked to the door and swung it open.
'Please leave my house'
Tara knew what all this is about, she had made it clear she didn't want a penny from that old witch of a grandmother.
'but Tara, you didn't even hear me out'
'I've told your lawyer friends already. I don't want that old woman's money, not after all she did', Tara retorted in tears.
The thought of her mother made her want to shout. She missed her so so much.
'No, you have to listen to me'
'leave me the hell alone, i have buried my mother. I don't want to open old wounds', She shouted.
'What is happening here Tara?', Jordan walked into the room with Shan. She ran into her husband's arms and cried hysterically.
'Jordan, please make him leave'
Jordan turned to Kelvin.
'Mr Nicholas, I am barrister...'
'you are barrister Kelvin. Who doesn't know one of the best and ruthless lawyer in this country. You never loose a case.
You are upseting my wife, please leave'
'I'm here about her mother, she has to listen to me'
'no she won't listen to you. I don't want to listen to you either. Mother did nothing wrong, you guys should stop attacking Tara', Shan shouted in tears.
'Hy, you musn't listen, only her daughtei has to listen to me'
'I am also her daughter'
'what?', Kelvin asked in suprise. No one said anything about another daughter.

'I shall be back Tara', he said I picked his briefcase and walked to the door. He turned and stared hard at Shan before retreating.

Jordan, Tara and Shan decended the stairs and walked out as the parents alighted from the car.
'Welcome home', Tara told them with a smile. Shan also greeted. Jordan's mother answered them with a smile.
'How are you girls?'
'We are doing great mother, how was your vacation?', Tara asked.
Mrs. Nicholas looked at her husband with so much satisfaction and happines. She grinned at him before turning to Tara,
'It was perfect. Shan, how are you doing dear?'
'I'm fine ma'
'Call me mother'
'okay, mother'
'welcome back', Jordan spoke for the first time. His mother snobbed his greetings and walked away. His father turned to him.
'We need to talk, come with me to the Library'
Jorden went with his father to the library. Tara wondered what was happening. She held Shan's hand and led her upstairs.

'Father, I don't know what you are saying'
'I'm talking about Amanda'
'I want mother here, she started this dad'
Edward picked his cell phone and dialled his wife's number. She came down a few minutes later. After taking a comfortable seat beside her son, Edward told Jordan to start.
'Amanda tried twice to kill Tara'
'Are you sure?', His mother snapped at him'
'yes'
Jordan then told them everything including Tara's fall from the stairs. Amanda had bragged about it at the station.
'Jordan, Amanda's father is very powerful. He has been trying to bail her to no avail. Not even his ministers and senators friends could help him'
'So?', Jordan asked
'Jordan, I now realised who Amanda really is. Please, don't take her to court. I promised her late mother I will take care of her', His mother began crying.
'Mother what are you insinuating?'
'please forgive her, she won't bother us again'
'Shut up Alice. Did I not tell you to take her away from this house when it was apparent she isn't copping with Jordan and Tara? You refused. Now look what is happening. I don't care about the relationship you had with her late mother, she tried to kill your daughter-in-law for goodsake!'
Jordan had never seen his father so angry. He glared at his weeping wife.
'you told me her father is a Banker. You lied to me. Her father had mercilessly destroyed innocent people to get to where he is now. He is a sly and corrupt man. Now he is after our family. Didn't you think about your children before bringing his wayward daughter here? You know I have always stayed away from politics, look what you have done'
His father had never shouted at his mother before. Jordan looked at them in horror.
'Father, what is happening?'
'Yes dad, he was here day before yesterday. What about him?'
'We need him Jordan, He has made Amanda's release impossible and embassadar Patrick has vowed to destroy me. Find Lucas, only him can help us or so help us God, these corrupt politicians will feed on us'
'I am sorry Edward', Jordan's mother whispered.

Kelvin looked serious. Embassador Patrick and his friends were planning Edward Nicholas fall. It was time Tara and her husband listen to him. His cell phone rang, kelvin picked it and pressed the receive button.
'Barrister Kelvin, this is senator Victor Leo. We will pay you double what the Nicholas are paying. We need you to defend Amanda'
'I won't'
'What is your price?'
'I doo't have a price'
Kelvin pressed the end button. These people were really desperate. Amanda's arrest and trial will be a big blow to her father's political career.

Tara knew something was wrong. Jordan was avoiding her. She hasn't seen him all day long. She walked in on her mother-in-law crying.
'Mother, what is wrong?'
'Two of our branch building got razed to the ground Tara. The ones at Anambra and Delta. The casualties are many and the press are already calling us muderers.
'What? But how comes?'
'I don't know, Shan must not go to school today. Its not save out there'
Tara wondered what was really happening but she didn't dare ask her mother-in-law.

I pray you guys are not offended that lately, I havn't been replaying your comments. I am so busy trying to update. I need this work over by tomorrow so as to enable me start my next work. If by monday this work is still not completed, then I will have to combine the two together, it won't work, I have a life outside NL and it will tell on this particular thread. Therefore, we are going to run a marathon, please bear with me

I'm not talking to you without Tara', Keluin declared to Edward and Jordan with a tone of finality.
'My daughter-in-law has been in a lot of stress lately. So many bad things had happened to her. Change your decision'
'I guess, I would have to come with you to the house. Please help me. I promised her grandfather'
'what are you saying?', Jordan asked Kelvin.
'Have you ever heard of the glamour law firm?'
'Barrister Stephen Joshua owned it. The firm is the second best in this country with three departments which includes, coperate law department, criminal law department and the litigation department.
Rumur has it that the firm is worth millions of Naira and the owner passed away two years ago without an heir. His distant relatives now fight for control over the firm', Edward Nicholas quietly explained to Jordan. Kelvin answered him back.
'You are right sir, but the firm has an heiress. Mr stephen willed it to his grandaughter, Tara Jordan Nicholas'
Both Jordan and his father were taken unaware. They gazed at him like an alian.
'Take me to her', he declared.

Tara so much missed Jordan. Both he and father had been away for almost a week. It was all over the news that the Nicholas empire was crashing. Another building had been razed to the ground. Investors were pulling out and so many rumurs were going round. Doctor Joel had told her she was no longer on bed rest.
She gazed at the clock beside their bed, it was 11:15pm. Tara shifted her gaze to Shan. She had told her to share her bed until Jordan returns. She picked a novel to read and succeeded in only a chapter. She went into slumber.

Jordan quietly turned the door knob to their room. He found Tara and Shan sleeping peacefully. Staring at Tara, he saw that her body was changing drastically. Her bossoms were fuller, she was now sixteen weeks gone. He strolled into the room and stood in front of her. He tried to remove the novel from her hands when she stired.
'Jordan?'
'Goodmorning my sweet', she glanced at the clock, it was 2:30am. She was glad her husband was home. She sat up.
'Shan, wake up', She said while shaking a sleeping Shan.
'Sweetheart, don't disturb her, there is space for me, we can all sleep together.
You havn't seen me in five days. Won't I get a hug from you?', Jordan told his wife who quickly jumpped from the bed to his arms.
'You look tired Jordan. What is really happening?'
'Problems with business. Tara, are you still on bed rest?'
'No'
'Good', He said as he carred her towards the door. Tara burst into laughter.
'Shush, we don't want Shan awake now do we?'
'No we don't. Where are you taking me?'
'There are many other rooms in this house. We can make use of one'
He walked down the corridor, turned right and halted at a door, turning the knob, he let them inside.
'Now Tara, let me show you just how much I've missed you', He said, then gently deposited on the bed with a pink well washed and iron spread.

Shan appeared at the dining room by 8:00am. She greeted the parents who were already seated. A man came down and Shan recognised him as the barrister whom Jordan had sent away the week.
'You?'
'Hy Shan, nice meeting you again'
Shan said nothing. When breakfast was about to start and Tara didn't come down, Shan became alarmed.
'I can't find Tara, she said I should send the night with her. I woke up this morning with no sign of her', Jordan's mother smiled at her.
'I'm sure she is fine. Just have your breakfast.
'Where could she be? Not in her room, not in mine and not here for breakfast', Shan said.
'Shan, I said not to worry, she should be with Jordan'
'But they are not in their room'
Edward decided to intervene, 'Jst have your breakfast dear'
Shan began eating. They all ate in silence. After breakfast, they sat in the living room discussing. Shan tried leaving but Alice stopped her, 'come and watch this cartoon'
By 9:30am, Shan announced she was going in search of her sister. Alice stopped her by asking her to entertain them with a song.
Edward glanced at his wrist watch, Jordan knew better than to keep them waiting. He picked his phone and dialled his son's number. JORDAN Came down, alone, twenty minutes later. His hair was damped, he must have just bathed. Shan ran into his waiting arms.
'Where is Ta?', Shan asked.
'she will be down, shortly'
'Have you told her about her visitor and how important is she sees him?', His 3ather asked him.
'She will be here shortly', Jordan replied.
Damn, he was very hungry. He called a maid and told her to serve breakfast for two.
