Singles should stay in the nest until they leave to form their own. Especially women. Obviously it's unavoidable in some instances, but where at all possible. Or staying with relatives or close family friends - or having a guardian - as proxy for family as alternative options.

Why not? If it suits her situation......e.g. it's closer to her place of work and she can comfortably afford it. smiley

Every lady deserves some REAL SPINSTERHOOD before marriage, biko.......where you answer to yourself and yourself alone. cool

We learn from our mistakes. You can't go through life, tiptoeing on eggshells for fear of making mistakes.

How else would one learn?

I am a big fan of individual freedom and all the responsibility that comes along with it.

I would rather make a bad choice myself than have others make a bad choice for me.

Example
My parents wanted me to become a doctor. When I chose to study something else, they were quite disappointed because I could have gotten admission to study medicine. In the meantime, everyone is happy and proud I made the choice I made myself and now live the life I do.
So who says that others will make better choices for you? wink

I think that's a greater reason. Prepares. her for marriage. Taking care of a home.
In a family house, the parents do most of the thinking and decision making.

Good point!
Plus the freedom asocoated with being in control of your time, life and everything is PURE BLISS!
You wake up when it suits you, sleep when you want to, cook if you feel like, do your chores when you please, go out without pleading for permission etc etc

That's a luxury married people or people who live with parents cannot afford. My married friends (most especially with kid(s)) have remote controls cheesy

And as you said, it gives ample time to develop yourself. You can wake up at 2.00am to start baking with guidance from youtube, you can carry yourself on a saturday to head to music/dance class, after church on a Sunday, you fit head to the beach without somebody begging you to do Laundry or pound yam sad angry

there are people who do worse under the roofs of their parents . I think if she there is nothing wrong staying wth your parents if they can still accomodate you , I mean if your house is that kin you dont have to share rooms with your siblings or relatives. however , if you feel you deserve more privacy and you are really independent , you can choose to move out.

That we learn from our mistakes doesn't mean we should go around making mistakes here and there when there are sound advices that would keep us on track.

I don't think it is.

I am a big fan of individual freedom so people (adults) should move out when they can and want to.

If you let others make your choices, you have no guarantee they will choose the right thing for you so you better make your choices yourself.
If you make a mistake, you learn from it and move on. That's life.

This is very much on-topic. wink

How do you mean by "do worse?".

My parents didn't allow me to leave the first time I wanted to.

I had my reasons which were good but their own was better.

I had to stay with them until I was able to do some of the things they listed.

What do you mean by the phrase going around making mistakes here and there?

How long do you propose an unmarried woman continues living with her parents assuming she doesn't wish to get married at all?

30's?

40's?

50's?

60's?

When did you first want to move out?

What did they ask you to do before they agreed to you moving out?

A piece of advice from an experienced person can save you alot of trouble.

Enough said ma.

I know why you are interested in this debate.

You are trying to make me some thing that I don't want to.

Now listen.. The first comment I quoted said when she can and wants to.

Read meaning into the emboldened and read my comment again.

Hopefully you will also understand my standpoint.

you said freedom , like she wont be involved in some ill activities ... yea , parental guidance is key but atimes some parents wlll never want you to leave and would always treat you as kids . I remeber while I was in sec school and my bro got into the labour market , he comes back late sometimes cos he hangs out after work because o traffic in lagos . my dad started complaining about late nights. atimes parents may never understand one is grown an have got to make personal decisions.
