^I have always said it. Onitsha is a "no man's land" just like Lagos and Abuja and even PH. |

Ikengawo: Other ethnic groups in Onitsha owning property is actually a welcomed idea. My take is that since the city is such a cosmopolitan melting pot of various ethnic nationalities, the federal government should be more involved in its development they way they treat Lagos, Kano,Abuja,Kaduna and many other places. Let the federal government site more facilities in the area to foster national unity. Such move will encourage other ethnic groups to buy land, build houses and even inter marry with the Igbos. It is the constant marginalization of the Igbos that discourage even great business moguls like Dangote from investing in the SE region. 3 Likes |

Myluv1:Oguta road extends from upper Iweka to the junction between Awka road and Upper market road, it traverses Woliwo left and right onward to Menax road junction i. e before CKC, immediately after the junction, CKC area by the left is Odoakpu and the right is inland town up to DMGS roundabout. So that road cuts across three suburbs within Onitsha. |

It is very clear that the whole of West Africa and beyond comes to this Trading Center (Main Market). The huge capital inflow and population is a pointer to that because more and more people are still investing in plazas/malls. Yeske2: 1 Like |

Thanks for all your contributions, other area we need to cover and debate on are: health sector, education sector, pipe borne water, transport and security. These areas are key to our development, I knew that Obi's administration did well in health, education and he tried to revive great Onitsha water scheme I don't know how far with the project? Our hospitals: Anambra state university teaching hospital Awka, Iyi enu Hospital Ogidi, Heart & kidney dialysis centre Onitsha, Onitsha general hospital, Borrome Hospital Onitsha, Nnamdi Azikiwe university teaching hospital Nnewi, newly built open heart surgery centre Adazi and other mission and general hospitals, nursing schools etc. Our working governor also need to focus on them also on education, I went through government house Amaobia last two months I saw red BRT buses packed and the new bustop they are fixing, sign posts, traffic lights, he is trying to improve our transport sector, if we can get pictures from health sector, eduction etc on this thread It be great. Main market during christmas season.. Always a heavy influx of people into Onitsha, all headed to Main Market!! If you are not certified fit enough to push through the crowd for hours just to buy few items, just don't go beyond Bright street, cos if you dare step into Lagos Line, Cooperative line and the likes... Your name go be sorry 2 Likes |

This is Lagos line main market. I personally took this pix last Easter when I went to shop with madam. But xmas shopping is the greatest here with even larger population coming for shopping from all parts of the country and beyond. Capital inflow coming into main market on daily basis is so much.. Yeske2:There is nothing like being too religious, it is rather being realistic and practical. Here's a quote from an article: According to Peter Obi, “Do not let anyone deceive you. This country is rich enough to fund education at all levels. All we need to do is cut down waste.” He went on to tell us the battles he fought to ensure schools were handed over to their original owners and how he ensured it was not a mere hand over, but guaranteed funding for forty years. He did a mapping in which he realized the Catholic Church owned more than 400 schools, the Anglican more than 300, and the government about 250, and devised a sharing formula based on that distribution. I was so amazed at the extent of distributive justice he displayed, how the state ministry of education got less because it had fewer schools, and how the church boards got more because they had more schools. And according to him, the results were there to see: while the missions applied their money successfully, government bureaucracy and corruption often resulted in poor outcomes. Before now whenever I read in the newspapers about the millions of naira Obi gave the Catholic and Anglican Churches, I would have a concern. I kept wondering whether there was a legal framework, whether he was just being magnanimous. I kept asking myself, what would happen when he left office? Would his successor continue with this magnanimity? It was such a delight therefore to learn that the very first step he took was to ensure the House of Assembly passed a bill, which he signed, into law.And that was what happened last Friday when Obiano doled out the sum of N1.9billion to mission schools in the state for the 2014 UBE projects- N433 million Catholic and N300 to the Anglican while N1.082 billion is in the custody of Anambra State UBE Board for funding public primary and junior secondary education. Governor Obiano said the fund allocated to each mission was based on the number of schools that government had returned to them. He confirmed that funds released to the Church by his predecessor were judiciously utilized which encouraged his administration to sustain the policy. Continue.. Indeed he (Obi) told us a funny story how the erosion control project in one of the schools was valued by government at more than 50 million Naira, and the principal of the school, a Catholic nun, valued the work at about 20 million Naira; he asked his officials to give the principal the 20 million naira but they refused because it would go against ‘financial guidelines of the state.’ He insisted and the money was given, and the work was done to great satisfaction, with the 20 million Naira! |

Myluv1: There is a reason why roads cost less to build in Cameroon, Benin Republic than in Nigeria. Even though we have the same soil and terrain. In Nigeria, corruption have eaten so deep that even the construction companies are in a cartel of their own inflating every construction project. Obi did good by involving the churches in building up the education and healthcare sectors. The so called good old days in education and quality healthcare were the days before government took over those sectors from the churches. Obi was right to correct that historic injustice and also help them bring those schools and hospitals to world class standard again. 3 Likes |

cjrane: I'm ok with the idea as well. I don't think a group can or will ever dominate Igbos in their land so there's no harm and adds to the city depending on the group. Hausas have even moved into my village and they have brought premium suya 1 Like |

Systemic improvements to remedy these types of handicap is usually beyond our people. Especially those that believe they are making enough already. 1 Like |
