The newly purchased Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) rail cars
by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will be
introduced to the public, when the Corporation starts its
planned new train services in Lagos on the 2nd of June.
The DMU has 10 coaches and they are fully air conditioned.
However, instead of 150 Naira currently being paid by
passengers for trips within Lagos, the new service will be
offered at 750 Naira per trip. Services on the old coaches
will also be increased to 230 Naira.
A total of 18 trips will be made daily, 8 with the new units
and 10 with the old ones. The new train service will also
run six trips on Saturdays

I thought It was to be a cheaper means of transport. Nija na waoooo!

So what?

Are you implying that I support mediocrity even it is perpetrated by Igbos?

Moreover, calling GEJ an Igbo man because of his real name Ebelemi (shortened to Ebele) and an adopted Azikiwe all in a bid to sound Igbo, is a huge disservice to the Igbos nation.

In the future, Igbos will be adjudged to have ruled this nation through GEJ, a failed ruler at that.
GEJ doesn't even have Igbo entrepreneurial nature nor it's Republican ideals. Can you compare GEJ to Azikiwe, Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme etc?

Pls GEJ is not an Igbo President. Tufia.

How many Nigerians understand this? Of course, they'll compare us with other oil producing nations. Most never understand is the engineering and science sectors of a country that makes them rich.

Poster, honestly answer me this.... If past administrations have consistently taken our railways serious, will this present administration be providing us with this? Also, have you factored in the cost of getting bullet and electric trains not to even talk about MAGLEVS? If yes, do you think Nigeria can afford some of these trains? Correct me if I'm wrong but the trains provided by this administration will be used for inter state transportation as obtainable in other countries unlike the electric and bullet trains which is for intra state transportation.

Then again, aren't most trains being uploaded here owned by the private investors in the various countries? Someone enlighten me please... Thanks

Let me educate you.

The Eurostar trains are controlled electronically with intelligent network grids. They don't depend much on the view of the train driver as they're electric.

The Nigerian and Ghanaian trains (unlike South African and Moroccan trains) are manually controlled with the driver pushing all the levers and looking at his front for obstacles or condition s of the track. All he does with the station is to communicate the train location and status to by radio. The train drivers line of sight and area of view is a safety concern in this case.

You're welcome.

That was GMB's best judgment at that time.
Remember, after Shagari in 1983, the economy was in shambles and they wanted us to borrow another $100Million or so to fund the Lagos Metroline.

GMB's focus was to stabilise the economy and weed out corruption first before grand capital projects will happen. This way we won't have to borrow to execute these capital projects.

GMB was getting there when Devil himself- IBB truncated all the good work in 1985.

Tell me why GEJ's godfather IBB didn't fund the Metroline in his 8 year tenure

Excuses....

We can't possibly use electric trains. We don't have enough electricity to run homes, businesses and industry and we are talking about rail? How will you feel if there is a power failure in the middle of nowhere in an electric train. Also, most countries with large land mass use diesel trains not electric. Borno,Yobe and Adamawa combined is larger than England. To lay up 1500Km of electric rail (e.g Lagos to maiduguri)will be too damn expensive, and the average Nigerian can't pay for it. This will lead to the collapse of the system. The electric rail system is meant for small countries with large GDP per capita or large countries with huge trade surplus,we are neither.

United Kingdom Phase 1 of High Speed 2 $173 million per km
California High speed rail $56 million/km
China High speed rail $17–21 million per km
Europe High speed rail $25–39 million per km
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_High-Speed_Rail
At $20 million per km. Lagos to maiduguri would be $20 million x 1500 km =$30 Billion.
We have not even begun to talk about maintenance, who will pay for that ? and what about other routes?
Let us first get the capacity and capability of moving people and goods efficiently, quickly and safely.
Deal with the elephant in the room (Electricity and industry) before going towards luxuries that are at the reach of low pop high GDP nations.
The DMU (Diesel Trains) is the correct thing to buy for the vast majority of Nigerians who seek the opportunities rail provides.

Do you wash train toilets in Manchester? You look like a guy that was begging me for tips at the Mancunian train station when I visited recently. He was cleaning the station.
I'm linking that info to this early morning picture you took (captured below). You look like you had not slept overnight or even washed your face.

Like I said no be yab. I just dey ask. It is better to come back home and be reasonably employed by TAN or Railways. Just trying to help.

I get your point.

But if you notice, the US focuses more on highways and car transport. Their road transport development has no rival in the world. They use trains more for cargo freight.

If I remember well, only NY has an advanced intra city rail network.

You have spoken like a concerned gentleman and I will reply you as such.

The three most important priorities for Nigeria today are:
Security, Power and Refineries. I have not even included Checking Corruption.

Have you seen pictures of the stations? Nothing to write home about. Nothing integrated about the project.

I assure you if GEJ wins in 2015 all these projects will be abandoned and you will hear it's because of low oil prices.

Happy Holidays.

Bro, I will just wait till after February 14th and 2019 to check our nations progress with what you've pointed out.

Whether its GEJ that enters or GMB we will record our progress with these 3 points you just pointed out
