I visit this thread on a daily basis to ogle at the lovely photos of delicious Nigerian food, but I can't help but verbally commend a Nigerian sister for doing what most modern ladies have since disregarded i.e. the traditional art of pounding yam. It brings back memories of years back when I was a kid.

Big kudos to you, I wish I could like your post more than once.

Just because you admire a particular poster's way of preparing dishes (albeit manually) is entirely your preference and you are 100% entitled to your views.

However, you have no right to use your preference as a yardstick for judging others (especially women) on their preferential mode of cooking / food preparation! You use strong words such as annoy, detest, and lazy in your rant against women. Why? Is that necessary? Why the judgmental stance from you?

You don't live in these people's homes, so it's not your place to call anyone lazy for choosing to use a microwave as opposed to a mortar and pestle in cooking / gas/ stove or look down on them for choosing to buy ready-made-frozen foods as opposed to cooking fresh. Everyone's different and what works for one person doesn't have to be your cup of tea.

And these women you were referring too, were you by chance making reference to the married ones with kids??

And if yes, have you thought to ask yourself why such women would resort to using frozen foods prepared via their microwaves if their husbands could cook? Why didn't you mention the men in your post? I've seen pics of men strutting their stuff well in the kitchen here. Now if every man strives to cook a fraction of what these men do here, then maybe, just maybe, the women you detest so much and call lazy won't have to resort to modern ways of cooking as opposed to using the grinding stone.

My brother,no be small tin o! My neighbour who is a sailor brings lots of fish for his co-neigbours anytime he comes back once in two months. I don't buy crayfish,stockfish,blackfish and fresh fish in the market because he gives his neighbours free. As I see free fish so,make I go dey buy for market? Mbanu! Can't remember the last time I bought fish of all types in the market.

Okay, so we all woke up really late this Saturday. Too late for breakfast and too early for lunch, so I made some brunch for the family.

Fried yams and stew served with roast fish, scrambled eggs (again, no oil used here), Brussel Sprouts, seedless purple grapes, and some oranges for our much needed vitamin C.

been long i had a fried yam like this. Round style fried yam.

It was the usual style by mumsi growing up.

Used to have darker countertops. I thought it was too dark. I'm loving the new look.

The lighter color now contrasts beautifully with stuff I place on it. Oga thinks I trouble myself unnecessarily.

The strawberries are right in the middle of the fruit bowl: Pineapple chunks, purple grapes and strawberry fruits. I somethimes offer the yogurt as an alternative to the fruit, but luckily all my kids like the fruit itself.
