true.

however, there are actually quite a lot of diasporan ladies on nl and also quite a lot of African men on nl.

unfortunately, this mistrust and reputation of Nigerians for 419 and other unsalacious activities, is making the ladies keep their distance.

but I think non-Nigerian ladies don't mind taking the risk sha.

Non-Naija ladies don't have anyone to warn them. We've had the message hammered into our heads from the time we completed puberty.

This is hilarious, actually. With the way boys on Nairaland abuse Nigerian women on this website, this thread is actually hilarious.

Seems you have your mind made up on how African men actually are.

@OP These are qualities a lady should look for in a prospective partner and frankly can be found in any race .. not just Nigerian.

non-naija ladies might be less strict with their requirements perhaps.

they overlook things which might be considered seriously in naija when it comes to marriage.

its easier to do that if you're from a different culture.

I'm not sure about that. Diasporans pretty much are from a different culture.

You might need to open another thread for those things you mentioned. This article is purely on the pros. Every marriage surely has its setbacks and what have you not unless you're saying those things you mentioned are peculiar to African men.

Keep pretending.

You couldnt have said it any better. Ive never seen a group of males that are sooooooo obsessed with women like the way Nairaland males are. Just check the romance section. Every topic there is about ladies with streams of males commenting till the threads stretch out to 20 pages. And now these are the same males convincing the same ladies they diss 24/7 to marry them. grin grin grin

If you have to convince your ladies to marry you, that means you know inwardly that you have a lot to work on yourself. As i was reading the hilarious points the Op mentioned, i was just laughing because we all know how some of our men act the very opposite of what the Op is saying. Even the way they curse ladies here is enough proof to tell you that the Op is not being truthful.

As na man, praises must follow. With what all these small NL boys are writting and talking about their women, who wants to happily marry them? I believe naija ladies just marry for convinience sake. Just so society will let them be and they can have" legal" $€X and kids. But some of us are good sha grin

Disclaimer: I have a Nigerian boyfriend who was born and bred in Lagos. So, I obviously don't hate Nigerian men. But I'm not blind.

Second, OP made generalizations, so my response also includes generalizations. So don't get all hyper.

eyamensah:
Family and marital dynamics in African cultures are varied and interesting, and the relationship between a husband and wife is sacred. Here are 10 reasons an African man would make a great husband:

1. He will do anything to protect your family:
In most African tribes and cultures, anything that threaten or offends a man’s family is immediately a threat or offense to him. You’ll never feel alone in your battles—your husband will fight them like they’re his own.
As long as it doesn't conflict with his own family. You will always rank below his people, especially below their image of him. He will throw you under the bus and hope you don't hear about it.

2. Your relationship is a building block to him:
In many African cultures, the marriage between a man and a woman is a crucial building block for a man’s life. After being married, in many African cultures, a man is then able to go after other pursuits. Your relationship won’t just be as something “fun” or seen as an accessory: it will be seen as crucial.
After he has secured this vital step in his life, it is for good. He might beat or cheat on you, but he still wants you to be his wife forever.

3. He has a good relationship with his parents:
In African cultures, men take care of not only their wives and children, but also their parents and even grandparents. If you’re tired of meeting men who don’t have good relationships with their parents, that probably won’t be an issue with an African man.
Also his brothers and sisters and cousins and their children.

4. You’ll get a big family:
African families stay very close. An African man feels as obligated to help his third cousin as he does his immediate siblings. When you marry an African man you’ll instantly inherit a large, close-knit and supportive community.
...and all of their expenses. You will be the community microfinance bank. If you refuse, you will be called wicked and cursed at.

5. He feels responsible for the wellbeing of your family:
In African cultures, the man is the provider of the family. There is no doubt in the mind of an African man that he is directly responsible for the wellbeing and happiness of his family. He’ll think about how all of his decisions affect you, not just himself.
Do not attempt to make decisions by yourself. He will resent you. He will make plenty of decisions without your knowledge, some even involving your own money. He is the final decider. End of discussion.

6. He is proud to be a husband:
Whereas in many western cultures, men are taught to see marriage as some sort or prison— something that takes away their freedom — African men see it as a means to new freedom. Others see him as a man now instead of a boy. He is proud to say he has a wife and children, rather than sheepish about it. In African cultures, your success is measured more by how strong and happy your family is than anything else.
This point is actually for women. Once you marry you're no longer a bitter spinster that no one wants, destined to die alone. Now, hurry up and get pregnant before they think you're barren. A Nigerian woman's success is measured by her marital status. A Nigerian man's success is measured by how many cars and houses he has.

7. He’ll be shunned if he gets out of line:
In African cultures, if a man mistreats his wife, the rest of the community tends to shun him and considers him useless. Since one of his most important roles is as husband and father, if he does something bad for the family, his community truly does see him as a failure.
This is a blatant lie. If the woman effs up, everyone will support the man if he tosses her out. For husbands, domestic violence is accepted and even encouraged. Infidelity is expected. But only on the part of the man.

8. He appreciates a home cooked meal:
Western cultures have learned to appreciate endless pasta cards from chain restaurants, great deals on ready-made chicken from the deli and celebrity-run restaurants. And that has turned the homemade meal into something second rate and boring. But an African man really values a good homemade meal.
You better know how to cook. He will expect you both to come home from work, and while he rests, you better head to the kitchen and prepare dinner. Then serve it to him and watch him eat alone before eating.

9. He’s open to learning:
If a man moved directly from Africa to the United States, he already accepts that life will be very different and there will be a lot to become accustomed to, so he will be open to learning from you!
LMFAO. Correct an African man at your own risk. Especially if you are his wife. If you want to change his mind, you have to do it gently, indirectly, and somewhat manipulatively.

10. Nurturing doesn’t look needy:
Many women from the western world have been taught that being nurturing to a man can look needy—like taking care of him when he’s sick or just being particularly affectionate. But African men are very comfortable with being nurtured, and in fact crave it!
They don't just crave it, they demand it.

For all of these, I have multiple personal anecdotes from my own life to back it up. These are not blind assertions.

Hehehehehehe. Me thinks all the unhappy and frustrated males with relationship problems in naija are in Nairaland most especially the romance section hence the constant dissing. They claim not to be women wrappers and love to beat chest but they derive joy talking about females every single day. grin grin grin
