This is not whistle blowing. This is a breech of trust and patient confidentiality. It goes against all of your sworn code of medical professional ethics. Violation of confidentiality is one of the biggest pet peeve of the medical profession.

The only whistle blowing allowed in medical profession is in case of endangering life (suicide/homicide/communicable disease such as HIV, syphilis etc) then the doctor has the "duty to warn". No one stands to benefit from what this doctor did. It caused more harm than good.

Here is a scenario: Assuming this lady has HIV, the doctor can't even be forced to tell the husband, he can only 'encourage' and then report the HIV status to proper authorities who then have the legal right to contact the husband.

Now, if the lady says: I plan to kill my husband to be, I have a gun and I have an elaborate plan. Then, yes! the doctor can intervene by directly contacting the fiancé and telling him.

The best way to handle this "abortion" scenario, is just to encourage her to tell the fiancé, offer full support/services for help, maintain therapeutic relationship with the patient that fosters trust and honesty. That's it.

That doctor aint got no business exposing her like that. Period.

Doctors facilitate healing. They are not the justice department. We are not in the business of judging people. WE are sure as hell not meant to get caught up in the drama and affairs of our patients.

When I go to work, I want to help you and encourage you in your social situation in the way I can help. But, I cannot pronounce judgment, criticize your way of life (even if I disagree).

It simply isn't my judge to be playing mediator in your social entanglements.

Most importantly, I want to go home and leave work at work. And, I don't want any one coming after me for ruining their life.

Exactly my point... Reporting would take both of em down,especially the doctor,for breaking the rules guiding the confidentiality & aiding in abortion,which would make him serve double punishment.

Does confidentiality hold with abortion.? Isnt it a crime. Are u not going to report a patient who takes cocaine too? I understand ur point though. Its just annoying when people downplay the wrongs of the lady while blaiming the doctor for reporting a crime.

Well as to the topic, I'll go ahead with the wedding but I'll make sure my family doesn't spend a dime. Then during the joining, when the question is asked, I'll grab the mic and explain to the congregation dat we cannot be joined and thereafter walk out. The shame she would face would hunt her for life.

I commend you for trying so hard to get your point across but believe me,people like the poster you quoted will always argue probably because they believe they are better humans and see things more logically than the rest of us . Believe me,all the people advocating for dialogue,forgiveness and all what not will be the first to throw out caution and common sense when faced with a similar scenario.
