Its possible she was brought in as an emergency ff complications of an abortion or pregnancy. In such a case, she may not be in a position to make any decision by herself. The next of kin or the person who brought her to the hospital will be the one updated on her condition.

Secondly, the dr would have naturally assumed the fiance was responsible for the pregnancy and would think they both agreed to get rid of it. Its expected he gets at least an update if he rushed her to the hospital.
We hardly ever hear of straightforward abortions. The procedure is so coded. However, any complicated one can't really be hidden hence the reason I think the fiance n us are hearing about it.[sup][/sup]

In judging issues, let's learn to judge from the root. Firstly the lady had an affair outside their courtship, that's "cheating" and "infidelity", she got pregnant and aborted it, that's "murder" yet she was "deceiving" and "lying" to the to-be groom. Now before judging the doctor, firstly judge the lady for;1. Cheating 2. Infidelity 3. Murder 4. Deceit and 5. Lies. Being so reserved with issues like this is the reason we have so many failed marriages in nigeria. Now everyone is blaming the doctor for not following code of ethic. This is not whistle blowing. This is a breech of trust and patient confidentiality. It goes against all of your sworn code of medical professional ethics. Violation of confidentiality is one of the biggest pet peeve of the medical profession.

The only whistle blowing allowed in medical profession is in case of endangering life (suicide/homicide/communicable disease such as HIV, syphilis etc) then the doctor has the "duty to warn". No one stands to benefit from what this doctor did. It caused more harm than good.

Here is a scenario: Assuming this lady has HIV, the doctor can't even be forced to tell the husband, he can only 'encourage' and then report the HIV status to proper authorities who then have the legal right to contact the husband.

Now, if the lady says: I plan to kill my husband to be, I have a gun and I have an elaborate plan. Then, yes! the doctor can intervene by directly contacting the fiancé and telling him.

The best way to handle this "abortion" scenario, is just to encourage her to tell the fiancé, offer full support/services for help, maintain therapeutic relationship with the patient that fosters trust and honesty. That's it.

That doctor aint got no business exposing her like that. Period.

And you dont seems to see that life is endangered here in the case of the husband that might become infected or emotionally imbalance and depressed to lifeless state, when he finally finds out later after the marriage, due to the action of his bride

Very simple, the wedding will go on but I will be the last to come to the venue, I will dressed for the occasion then drive my car with about to wed to a beer palour, high enough with my phone switch on as it will be ringing, people calling me to come to the wedding venue. After much highness, start the car and head straight to the wedding venue, do the normal ritual. Then when the groove is over, in the evening, I will drive the woman to her family house with all her wedding gifts, family seated and I will open the can of worm.
