Presidential pardon is for criminals and looters not for saints and good citizens bro...it is granted by state council which buhari and all APC governors are members...it cannot be granted if they don't support it...

On ffk, what's his crime? did any court convict him?
Do you know that APC leaders like saraki, goje, etc have similar cases in court; why not ask APC why they allowed them to represent them...that's if we follow your line of reason...

Great writeup. Most Nigerians don't even know what it means to fight corruption. All they want is brute force where people are thrown in jail or shot by firing squard. They careless about preventive measures.
The best way to minimize corruption (Corruption can never be eradicated) is by blocking loopholes and avenues to corruption. And the best way to do that, as you rightly pointed out is by building institutions. Institutions with internal mechanism that is self sustaining and efficient to deal with corruption no matter who is in power. That's what is obtainable in civilized societies. This is an indictment on OBJ because he never fought corruption. All he did was to intimidate political enemies through EFCC.
Those people who are in the habit of accusing GEJ of not fighting corruption conveniently forgot that humans in general possess the affinity to commit crimes. For instance, the penalty for hawking drugs in some countries is dead sentence. Yet people still hawk drugs. Why? Because man has the penchant attitude to commit crimes. So is dead penalty the best way to deal with drug trafficking? Definitely not. So what's the best way to fight drug peddlers? Destroying drug farmlands. That's why some of these countries with high drug related crimes are destroying farmlands where drugs plants are planted and produced to minimize the rate of drug trafficking in the streets.
So is it with corruption. The best way to tackle a problem is from the root. This is what GEJ is currently doing through FOI, free press and information technology (ICT).

God bless you...

The belief that GMB will fight corruption is a LIE.

He doesn't understand the workings of demoracy in the first place. He believes he can send people to jail but forgot that it is the judiciary that will determine that; unlike in the military Era.

Whereas GEJ system is about prevention instead of cure. Things like e-payment for job done has eliminated cheques duplication in the ministry and parastatal. The man on the street do not know how much nigeria has saved from these.

Also the detection of ghost workers, fertilizer allocation system, etc which has prevented the committing of the crime in the first place is usually better than jailing. Prosecution is a cost element to the state treasury when prevention was possible.

GEJ believe in building schools rather than prison. He believe in awarding scholarship so that the greater populace will become indeed productive.

GMB on the other hand, believe in jailing people. He seem to have the sharia discipline sort of. Such sharia tendency does not serve any institutionalised long term goals; it practically dies with the leader, just like he did in his first tenure.

Boss13:
This is one of the dumbest post I have ever read.

Prosecuting corrupt persons is the last stage of fighting corruption. Where they are weak controls or the ineptitude of leaders to curb corruption, corruption will grow.

You first start fighting corruption through an anti-corruption bill. This sets the tone on how corruption will be tackled. The UK has about 4 Acts on Bribery and Corruption, including Acts of Terrorism and this is reviewed regularly.

Next, you check the controls in place to curb corruption, waste and theft. Now this is where Jonathan and his dumb aides are screaming (laughs). These controls (Physical or IT related) will ensure that it is difficult to engage in corrupt practices. Examples includes centralisation of payments (like the IIPS put in place by NOI), Proper authorisation of payments, good audit trails of transactions etc. These controls must be reviewed for weaknesses and strengthened at all times.

Now, because we have hardened criminals in this country, controls might not curb corruption. This is where prosecuting agencies like the EFCC and ICPC comes into play. However, these prosecuting agencies cannot prosecute or arrest persons who have engaged in corruption if they are not reported. Hence, there is the need for whistle blowing agency on corruption, where anonymous persons can whistle blow of suspected corrupt practices or alleged corrupt practices. Likewise, the office of auditor general of the federation, if they are very efficient should be able to spot corrupt transactions and report to the prosecuting offices.

Also, corruption does not end with Public offices alone. It is even more perpetrated in private organisations. Now, it should be mandatory that every organisation train their employee on anti-corruption practices and send training reports and attendance on an annual basis. Whistle blowing can also work for private organisations too. Directors or CEOs would gets involved with corruption should be blacklisted amid prison time and should never hold such position nor get involved with corporate governance. The same should be application to public officer holders too.

That is free consultancy and that is how you fight corruption.

All what you said requires the support of the judiciary and the legislature. The executive arm of government cannot solely fight corruption in Nigeria. This is what you should all understand.

I know that APC will go any length to disgrace GEJ but I have not heard them accusing GEJ evidently of embezzlement of funds or owning companies here and/or in abroad. If up till now no such accusations then GEJ is more sincere than all the APC put together.

Nigerians are wiser

Vote GEJ on march 28

Ask a fish what comes to mind when he hears the name Nigeria, it will say corruption! Everyone knows that the cancer eating at the heart of this country is corruption and since the return to democracy in 1999 every politician running for the top job in the nation, has campaign on the premise of tackling corruption. Yet as we know all too well words are wind, we have seen minimal efforts, token gestures and down right indifference to actually solving this acute Nigerian sickness.

So when something does actually happen and high profile arrests are made and convictions are enforced the whole nation and the greater world takes notice to see whether this is a turning point in this diseased nation. That was the case when Diepreiye Alamieyeisegha was arrested in the UK on money laundering charges in 2005 and later convicted for said crimes. However in an unprecedented move the President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan who happens to be Diepreiye Alamieyeisegha protege pardoned this convicted fraudster on grounds that he had shown sufficient remorse in 2013.

This man that goes on international television to embarrass perennially saying how he inherited a corruption nation and how he is doing his utmost to curb it. In that one act of pardoning a convicted and proven thief President Jonathan has done more to undermine the fight against corruption than any other Head of State in this nation history. But yet it seems Nigerians have short memories, in any other country this one act would render any public figure ostracized and lacking in credibility. To move Nigeria forward we must stymie the flow of unaccounted monies from the coffers at state and national level before we can talk about improving infrastructure and social development, Jonathan has demonstrated his indifference and unwillingness to carry out this critical task.

Presidential pardon is constitutional and is meant for criminals and looters not for saints and good citizens bro...it is granted by state council which buhari and all APC governors are members...it cannot be granted if they don't support it...

now your second paragraph said it all!

"Prosecuting corrupt persons is the last stage of fighting corruption."

thats what our president is currently doing!
taking it step by step, stage by stage before arriving to the last stage as you pointed out.

but for some people their knowledge on how to fight corruption starts and ends with the last stage! just by jailing people without finding the lasting solution to it.

Mister, please stop pretending that GEJ is fighting corruption. If he was, Nigerians are not dumb not to have known. Apart from the fertilizer subsidy scam which you refer to, what other sensible steps has GEJ taken to prove your point that he is doing anything with fighting corruption.

To a stunned national audience, GEJ declared that he is now coming up with plans to fight corruption. Is he for real? Coming up with a plan after almost six years?

And you want to defend a man that says "how much did Nwobodo stole that Buhari jailed him?" Are you for real?

It was sigmund frued that said and I agree "People will obey the law when the consequence of breaking it outways the gain"
This is where GEJ has failed woefully, the thing is curropt officials knows that there is no consequence, during GEJ administration, for curroption, hence the impunity with which curroption has permiated the entire government and the whole country!! Even the few that were caught during OBJ regime were let go with inconsequencial purnishments!

With Buhari's proposer of wistle blower protection law and high handedness on curropt officials, at least people will know that long jail term await curropt officials!. In Nigeria, all that is required is to send few former governors and ministers on a long jail term of minimum of 20 years (Note that this is not unusual in advance countries) and allow the anti-curroption agencies to keep rolling on its own from there!.

Trust Nigerians, we will become law abiding immidiately because that will be enough to send us clear message on the resolve of the new government.

What is the rate of incidence of corruption in those countries using buhari kinda of style to those using Jonathan style

Why has death sentence not stopped incidence of drug trafficking especially in Muslim countries

Focus on corruption:
In nigeria everything is corrupt. You and me.
*I beat traffic, do u?
*I desire excessive gain and u?
*I m selfish, u?
*Lie somethines, u?
*Cheat if chanced, u?
*Slightly Tribal, aren't u?
*emm possessive,
To shorten this list, build me friendly environment, not to jail or kill we.
Therefore u not corrupt if u'r innocent of the list.
Be the one to fight corruption.
