Re: IJEBUS by seguun(m): 9:59am On Jun 06, 2015 |
The op is a useless bigot(probably not a Yoruba himself). You see, the great Yoruba tribe consists of many clans with different specialties...at least if the ijebus are the greatest in all aspects they would have been the runners of Oyo empire. Meanwhile they paid tribute to the Alaafin. Samuel Ajayi crowther, the Kutis, Herbert Macaulay, Gani Fawehinmi, Femi Falana, Tinubu and so on are not ijebus. My point is, no doubt the ijebus are the best in commerce but that is one aspect of what makes the great Yoruba tribe the greatest tribe in Africa which every other clan contributes to realise. 3 Likes |

Lmao at this Ijebu wannabe Omo y1bo Op. Omo y1bo OP, yorubaland is not alaigbo where Anambra claims supremacy over the rest. In yorubaland everybody is equal, whether you are from industrious ijebus or administrative HQ of Oyo or military garrison of Ibadan or Spiritual temple of Ile Ife. 6 Likes |

Re: IJEBUS by omonnakoda: 10:22am On Jun 06, 2015 |
seguun:Yoruba,is not a "tribe". Ijebu is not a tribe either. Get a good dictionary and check what "tribe" means. Do you have evidence that Ijebus paid tribute to Alaafin? The Ijebus themselves were never all within one Ijebu Kingdom and while today we have a so called Awujale of Ijebuland we must remember that "land" is not a Yoruba word. IJebus as a group were never part of the Oyo empire 5 Likes |

If You definitely have pure mind for Yoruba Unity, you'd be smart enough to know OP is y1bowl.... If there is no Kiriji war, There won't be colonialism.... Yorubas have the firearms and gallant soldiers to resist colonialism... But what did we gain from KIRIJI WAR Colonial masters settle on our land and manipulate things against Yorubas before parting Nigeria... Yoruba Soji.... Enough of Ronu Ronu... Let's Soji with Action... O man dunmi fun awon gullible ones laarin wa.. 4 Likes |

Asamu07:It is one thing to have pride and another to be informed .What did the world look like between 1800-1900. There was nothing that could have been done to stop colonialism. I am not sure what firearms you are talking about. Without a grounded appreciation of the technological setting of that era it is difficult to understand the history. China a country of some 2-300 million was being bullied by the French in humiliating ways, read up the Opium wars and how Hong Kong was ceded to the British, read up about how India became a British Colony. Let me put it like this the military balance of power in those days was 100% overwhelming. In those days wars were settled by signing an agreement to pay money if the winner did not intend to colonize.Read up on how China was being extorted by The French ,British and even lesser powers like the Japanese. Funnily in those days even when they would fight against each other in Europe in Asia and Africa they joined forces to fight and it was basically like hunting an animal and sharing the meat afterwards. These days they pretend to be civilized but it is important to read about actual events of the 19th century to put what is going on now into context. We are still very much a colony It is hard to see how if China a more advanced country with 300 million people a civil service a navy etc in the 19th century could be treated as itt was what chance any group in West Africa had. At that time Nigeria could not hae been more than 20-30 million people in small nations or tribes 2 Likes |

omonnakoda: Oga! its not really out of place to refer to the Yoruba as a tribe. However we may better be referred to as an ethnic group. The Ijebu definitely paid tribute to Oyo. You may wish to check out this thread; www.nairaland.com/2253499/picture-eleko-eko-london-england/13 I like the way Katsumoto lectured in that thread. |

Tdhforreal: You tried to paint the ijebus as the superior group among the Yoruba, I put you in your place by reminding you that though the ijebus are very good in business. However the greatness of the Yoruba ethnic group is as a result of the ingenuity of all the Yoruba subgroups. So tell me! who is actually unintelligent here? |

Re: IJEBUS by Shymm3x: 1:24pm On Jun 06, 2015 |
Tdhforreal: Brev, are you sure you're Ijebu? Just delete the thread and move on. At first, you said you created it for Igbos (which is unnecessary) and now it's something else. If it were to be because of a back and forth on a Yoruba thread, due to revisionism in which some Yoruba folks like doing - trying to re-write history. Then it might be understandable. But what is the point of this one? You've got all the useless stereotypes these folks attach to Yoruba people, including the idi.otic claims that only Ijebus sold slaves. When all Yorubas groups did (Oyos were even bigger slave traders than the Ijebus cos they had more slaves) - and the number of slaves sold by all Yoruba groups combined before kiriji wars (19th century) was minimal (not even up to 10,000 combined based on all the slave records I have seen), compared to the other coasts who sold slaves in hundreds of thousands. Now you want to intentionally add chest-beating and being conceited to it - just allow, man. You don't need to blow anyone's trumpet - greatness speaks for itself. 2 Likes |

Why is I.diocy so entrenched in you and shymmex? See, this is why I say programmers/coders/IT people should have advanced degrees? Every little thing tends to go to the head of people like you, imagine glorying in other people's achievements as if they're your own, and you are not even ashamed? The level of silliness is beyond me. Basically, all I'm saying is what have you achieved with your own life? Being a tout is not considered an achievement. Unless you are from a family of touts, I'm referring to you and shymmex. 3 Likes |

mizztee:Clearly we only used different terms to drive home the same point my dear. You said "they take pride in" while I said 'they claim superiority'. Maybe I shouldn't have used a word that strong, but we both agree that Ijebus have always strive to show us they are one of the outstanding Yoruba groups, if not the most outstanding which is evident in the quality of people they have produced. Btw, I'm Yoruba like you, stop the 'enemy' feeling. |
