The white wedding gown was adopted by the roman catholic church for virgin brides in the middle ages.
Things have changed now though . There are no such things as "virgin brides" in this century.

because the original objective of wearing white gown has been forgotten.
Even people from other religions i.e, Islam wear wedding gowns.

Wow, i didn't know the meaning of the white colour, it' interesting. However, in European countries for instance, women lose their virginity before their marriage and they still wear a white gown... So the tradition is still there nowadays, it seems like the white colour has lost its meaning.

Most brides choose a dress of white to symbolize purity of the soul and has nothing to do with virginity.
By the way, white wedding is a culture of the West, which Nigerians blindly copied. Traditional marriage is our own culture.

the above verse is talking about the marriage supper of the lamp where the bride(the church) will be presented to Christ

So the Christian wedding is an allegory of this marriage supper of the lamp.

That's why Ephesians 5:22-24 likened the man to Christ when it's was talking about headship.


That being said, early Christian marriages & secular marriages attire was ones "best attire" it was only the elites that could afford white material because of the high cost of purchase & maintenance

White became popular & the norm when Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840.
