The funny tin is dat they are defending der ignorance. Any seasoned mathematician will tell u d Ans is 12. I mean its just ridiculous to get 6 as ur Ans. I mean were did u go to school how can -3+3 b -(3+3) I mean r u high on opion or wat Lol

Infact open dat bracket n c if u will get -3+3. No u will not instead u get -3-3. I wonder if sum pple tink at all, or r dey just satisfy with their stupidity.

If u want to put bracket then it should b -(3-3). Now open dat bracket n c if u will not have -3+3.

N 4 does spitting rubbish about d calculator. If u give a calculator straight forward questions like this 1 or say 1+3+6*7÷5+17. It will hv u d correct Ans any day. Its only wen fraction, brackets, powers or square root come into place that tins get tricky. Calculator are designed to follow BODMAS to d letter so wat r u guys yabing about

Finally find a good school to enrol in to learn basic mathematics if u still tink d Ans is 6. Shikina

I saw the below equation on First Bank BBM channel and what i saw with great dismay was the poor answers people were writing. Seriously our arithmetical knowledge needs to be awaken because i can't see a nation developing with poor analytical skills especially with simple equation.

So Nairaland members lets see those with good knowledge of arithmetic and those who will embarrass their parents.

12... please excuse my dear aunt Sally (PEMDAS)

I can't believe some people can't solve this equation without consulting their calculator, nd how come some are also getting 6. OP the answer is 12. Using bodmas.

Easy and simple way to remember BODMAS rule!!
B → Brackets first (parentheses)
O → Of (orders i.e. Powers and Square Roots, Cube Roots, etc.)
DM → Division and Multiplication (start from left to right)
AS → Addition and Subtraction (start from left to right)
Note:
(i) Start Divide/Multiply from left side to right side since they perform equally.
(ii) Start Add/Subtract from left side to right side since they perform equally.

Steps to simplify the order of operation using BODMAS rule:
First part of an equation is start solving inside the 'Brackets'.
For Example; (6 + 4) × 5
First solve inside ‘brackets’ 6 + 4 = 10, then 10 × 5 = 50.

Next solve the mathematical 'Of'.
For Example; 3 of 4 + 9
First solve ‘of’ 3 × 4 = 12, then 12 + 9 = 21.

Next, the part of the equation is to calculate 'Division' and 'Multiplication'.
We know that, when division and multiplication follow one another, then their order in that part of the equation is solved from left side to right side.
For Example; 15 ÷ 3 × 1 ÷ 5
‘Multiplication’ and ‘Division’ perform equally, so calculate from left to right side. First solve 15 ÷ 3 = 5, then 5 × 1 = 5, then 5 ÷ 5 = 1.

In the last part of the equation is to calculate 'Addition' and 'Subtraction'. We know that, when addition and subtraction follow one another, then their order in that part of the equation is solved from left side to right side.
For Example; 7 + 19 - 11 + 13
‘Addition’ and ‘Subtraction’ perform equally, so calculate from left to right side. First solve 7 + 19 = 26, then 26 - 11 = 15 and then 15 + 13 = 28.
These are simple rules need to be followed for simplifying or calculating using BODMAS rule.

In brief, after we perform "B" and "O", start from left side to right side by solving any "grin"or "M" as we find them. Then start from left side to right side solving any "A" or "S" as we find them.

No body has gotten the correct answer it seems am going to involve a form of reward for the right answer to make it interesting.

Yeah! its BODMAS approach but you guys are not doing it right.

This is the BODMAS approach (layman's BODMAS)
3×3= 9 then you add the two 3's that are carrying the "+" sign to the 9 ie 9+3+3 = 15 then you subtract the 3 with the " - " sign from the 15 ie 15 - 3 = 12

Now that's the most accurate way to solve the maths.

Please this thread should just end here. How can you solve this and be getting 6, 18. Did you skip primary education? My God, the number of silly comments is just worrisome...
One thing I know is, If i solved this on paper step by step, some brilliant nitwit will still argue. Just get hold of a calculator and type it in as it is on the picture and you get 12.

Joke aside, let's be realistic here....many individuals would fail this, but from my mathematical knowledge,d solvings shld go thus 3+3*3-3+3=? Therefore, 3+(9)-3+3 {as 3*3=9}. 3+9-3+3 where -3+3=0. 3+9+0. =12. That's all!!! Representing Rochas Okorocha of imo state (PA to the governor on mathematics affairs).

3+3*3-3+3
applying PEMDAS
But lets introduce bracket without tampering with originality of the equation
(3+3)*(3-3)+(3)
6*0+(3)
0+3=3
no wonder 87% failed... winks!

This is the Correct Answer.

Introducing the parentheses wrongly is where you missed it. The correct way should be thus:
3 + (3 * 3) - 3 + 3
3 + 9 - 0 = 12
