You need brighter bulbs. Bulbs with higher wattage. Don't just change bulbs blindly, read the label.

Is the headlight discoloured? If yes to can use Colgate toothpaste and damp sponge to scrub it or get the Abro headlight restorer. It's hard work so eat well before starting.

Buy original bulbs/lamps from the likes of Philips:
http://www.usa.lighting.philips.com/products/automotive

Philips claims their headlamps can outlast the car, lasting up to 12 years and come to think of it save for cost of importation, they don't cost a fortune!

or Osram

https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/products/automotive/Pages/default.aspx

I have personally had to import them for my personal use, you might also have to

Maybe you bought fake bulbs, who knows.

Upgrade from Halogen to LED or maybe even HID or buy Halogen from known brand names, don't buy second hand bulbs or bulbs imported for mass sales maximum profit instead of for their quality!

Use the product selector, input your car details and you are good to go

There is one other major LED manufacturer from Taiwan, their name begins with an E, i can't recall and i am a bit too lazy to search for you.

Just avoid all those cheap Chinese clones

Ogawisdom, please post a front end pic of your vehicle and I will give you my recommendations promptly.

You might not have to replace the car. grin

Most aftermarket LED bulbs shine brightly but don't travel far. Except they've been designed to do so. How can he modify HID or LED on his Carina e is another question.

OP, I know Carina E has glass headlamp case, why not remove it, check it if its dirty, dash some water and mild detergents into it to dissolve the dirt and layers of dust, find where the dust gets inside, and seal it off.
If your shiny reflector is faded, buy another genuine OEM headlamp (tokumbo if possible).
If your headlamp is fake china, buy genuine PHILIPS, I use PHILIPS on my HL highbeams and its even brighter than my SILVANIA bulbs on my Lowbeams.
If your headlamp isn't aiming properly, wait till dark, park 5 metres from a wall and align your headlamp aim.
If all these don't work, go the kazeem way, install a damn relay. angry

Ogawisdom, when making a query like this one, it pays to post a picture. Right now, I have no idea on what advice to give you. Your lighting may be poor due to any of the following:

Tarnished glass lenses.
Discoloured polycarbonate lenses.
Discoloured reflectors.
Incorrectly aligned headlamps.
Other.

Please post clear frontal pictures.

Do the product selector thing, send me the part numbers so I can get them for you.

Edited to fix the slip in English: You can choose between long life and brightness

Absolutely agree that the Philips appear brighter than the Sylvania (especially when comparing a Philips LED to a Sylvania Halogen, but that might not hold if you compare a Philips LED to a Sylvania HID/Xenon) but then that might be an optical illusion because both are street legal meaning they are 55/60 Watts respectively.
