I have since delivered my baby girl and returned home, however i would like to pass some accommodation information across, but please i advice, you need to have someone on ground in the US to assist you.
I have a cousin in houston, but she stays in a 1bedroom apartment, so i had to rent an apartment as i went with my mother.
I got my apartment tru craigs list, the lady got married, she and her husband bought a house, in order not to breake her lease and pay a huge sum, she was looking for someone to sublease, hence i got the apartment for 4 months @ $700 per month electricity included, as i said earlier, my cousin helped me check out the environment and the apartment about a month before i got to the US. All i paid was water bill, btw $25 -$30 per month, d lady was kind enough to leave me her bed, washer and dryer. I got cable so my mother does not die of boredom, (u can get a cheap tv from craigs list) comcast for about $50, FOR BOTH CABLE N unlimited INTERNET, so u can get any cheap line just for 3g qhen ur out of the house, i was calling Naija with my skype, viber, whats app etc with wifi oh instead of call card.
But if u want call card, try downloading rebtel
Advice, when u go to african/Asian stores pls pay cash or run ur card as credit.
Journey:
Flew Emirates, smooth journey, got to houston, d office did not even notice i was there, all d questions were adressed to my mum as shes a frequent traveller, stamped in without hassel.
Delivery.
My baby didnt move for over 24hr, i went in for observation was told all good. Woke up the next morning, had a little pain, tot i was just waist pain, before i knew it my mum checked me, i was 8cm dilated go to the hospital before anesthesiologist could show, baby don come oh. Thank God, epidural bill saved, lol.

I got worried about the accommodation ish here( sometimes I can be unnecessarily concerned) so asked how to sort It here... He suggested the above... Lease an apartment ( Minimum is 6 months) but u need to get someone to take over from u. A two bedroom is like 750 to 900. per month... So u get someone to share with you and all that.

But u know naija people and uncertainty. it can only work of u have someone to take over from you... And the circle repeats itself.

Was thinking of helping someone here... But somehow I just got discouraged... Lemme not get involved

hi people,
just realised i won't be able to carry more than 3K $ for my trip. People on this thread usually carry huge amounts (7-15K$)
do you think it's risky to have so little in cash and tell them that i have the rest on my cards (& don't like travelling with too much cash )
could they turn me back because of that ? undecided

If you must do this, then I recommend you go with your bank statement. All the best

Hello people, I was just able to save more than 100k on my KLM return ticket to Detroit. So here is what I did, I searched using cheapflights.com.ng, saw different deals but the best for me was a ticket for 289k and I selected. I was then redirected to mytrip.com for payments, opted for a premium charge of about 7. 99 euros to enable me make changes if the need arises and an additional 21 euros was charged as service fee.

In total I paid 296k on mytrip.com for an exact ticket that was 2274usd (452k) on the klm site.

Let me add that I did my research on the site before paying cos it looked too good to be legit. I got my booking reference immediately after payment went through. Sharperly, I went to the klm site to test the reference to be sure it wasn't a hoax and it wasn't! As I type, I haff reserved my comfy seats for all the trips and made my special requests. So for those looking for cheap deals and are willing to take the risk, you have your guinea pig.

why won't you? Is it that u don't av more than that for now or u don't like travelling with cash.

If u don't have more than that for now... Is risky cos it also means ur statement won't suffice and then if you r asked to prove u av cash ( a mother here had to sign into her account to prove she had money in her account) u won't b able to.

But if it's that u don't like to carry money... Then fine... These people know our PTA limit is 4k.. So print ur statements.. Raise d money with u to 4k. Nd b ready to prove u av Money in ur account.

Guess what there r people they don't even bother with what they have.. While there are some they stress a whole lot. At the end na God favor jare

I did vigilante so tey I roamed around, watched TV, browsed Amazon, showered twice the night before my scheduled CS which was for 6:30am, only for me to doze off at 4:25am and wake up at 6am, didn't hear the alarm ring. Before I waddled to to the hosp them don call tire to check if I hadn't developed cold feet! I was so late!

As long as you can show you can afford to pay for your medical expenses (preferably cash, as most people here have mentioned) they don't need your bank statement at the POE. Even at black market rate, N2m is $8k; you should be fine.

Well Done House

My question is, when i have abt 2m to 3m in my account prior to interview and VO confirms my interview, i intend withdrawing from this 3m as cash to take along with me, of course i have a stable means of income and the money will still comin but u know when 3m is withdrawn , bank account will go low

Does this really matter, or is it that the amnt declared in the bank statement has to be the same amnt reflecting when one is leaving .

There is a trend I have noticed here:

How come nearly everyone who was interviewed at the US embassy landed in front of the same VO they were hoping to avoid?

Have you checked out wyckoff heights medical centre brooklyn?
They charge 6,500 for vd (2days stay) and 10k for Cs (3 days stay). Both all inclusive of doctors fee, hospital fee, paed fees while on admission and epidural/anaesthesia. So far so good with them
The only downside is you pay 130 dollars each docs visit
Sonogram 241 dollars
They also insist on not giving further discounts. I guess the admitting manager is used to having so many nigerians come in and pay cash yet claim they dont have money that she has become nigerian herself. Lol. She even added that you pay for the epidural whether you use it or not. Something bout it being nyc state law
To be honest, there might be cheaper options out there so keep researching. I chose this hospital based on reviews from babababy, but things have changed since then. The package (money wise) isnt as fantastic anymore.
I was in correspondence with the admitting manager and it was the emails i printed out for POE.

They definitely dis some tests, if you go through your discharge notes given to you and your baby from the hospital, you will find it. You can only get your bill from them when you call. Tell them the date you gave birth, name of hospital and they will ask you to confirm your last name and date of birth. Keep your card handy for the payment.

@shanaka29 : Please, be very aware that effective 20/10/2015 all Foreign POS transactions on GTBANK cards are now restricted to $300/day. So, if you have a gtbank card and are planning to use same in the states better plan well.
Ahhh, this people are mean o, some bills here can't be paid with cash easily. Something like oakbend NIC bills are always paid tru phone with your card and it's usually more than $300, this is becoming very tasking.
