From the statistics it shows the North relies so heavily on the monthly allocation because what they are generating internally is so very abysmal as what the entire north generates is no where near what Lagos alone generates and the entire North is about 220 times the size of Lagos! This is a call for deep conversation!

without Abuja funds, it will be south south states taking the lead as by then each state will have to manage its own resourses... so states like Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa will hit it high

DropShot:
It's a big shame that most governors are not thinking with their brain. I wonder how many states will survive without monthly allocation from the center. Only Lagos, Rivers and Delta can realistically stand on their own without the money from Abuja.

OP, abundance of natural resources and/or heavy allocations from the center should make many of these states paradise on earth already. Just that most of the administrators have been wicked, lazy and generally unfit to be leaders.

This is correct.

I think we need to change our mentally from regional competition to international competition. How can we make Ogun compete with Kenya's tech hub?

SW governors should be competing with Ambode. SW states, collectively, should be competing with growing African countries.

At this point, it's an insult to be comparing the SW with SE, when the SE is dragging medal with the North.

LOL!
true talk.

Too many to mention of you wanna compete,, the reachest black woman is not yet included.. Yimu, Lagos is strategically located, even if you leave you will come back begging.

You can as well mention companies that has filed for bankruptcy like Odua telecom, Dunlop, HITV, AIR NIGERIA. I am talking about viable companies that still pay their staff salaries and PAYE . Is bicourtney a company? Or nicon insurance still existing, elizade has too few staff to count,.

State IGR contest today data and presentation from nbs, I have always been of the opinion that Enugu is one of the most developed city in the South East and South South Region,if not the most developed, this again proves that the abundance of natural resource or heavy allocations from the federal government is not enough to kick start the ground, states like Akwa Ibom get 3times more than what Enugu gets get federal Gov,but take a visit to both states and see which looks richer, comparing adult literacy, access to basic amenities, hospitable and general workabilty of the city. Enugu bu Obodo Oyibo!

Remove the seaport tax from Igbo importation in Lagos and Lagos will be as good as Oyo state. The airport in lagos also help.

How much is the Onitsha port generating?

Sorry I just remembered you are land locked and your forefathers were too lazy to make expeditions towards the coast. I am even talking too much, the same fore fathers of yours that could not build more than hamlet and never won any war, are the ones i am expecting to be adventurous enough to venture towards the sea.

Lagos makes bulk of its revenue from PAYE, so it is about companies or organisation's that has the largest salary earners
Re: States Internally Generated Revenue: See How Much Your State Generates. by IlekeHD: 11:06pm On Oct 25, 2015
Without oil, SS would be dragging medal with the north.

Without Fashola, SW would be dragging medal with the north.

With commercial hub/port, the SE is still dragging medal with the north.

Each region is blessed with a specific resource that contributed to its growth. Some took advantage of their resources, others didn't.

fact is, Yorubaland is a viable environment, that's why non-Yorubas seek refuge in Yorubaland (Lagos, Ekiti, Akure etc).

Igbos should be fighting with God, not the SW. Yorubas should competing with Kenya, not SE/North

not true Fashola did not do much to influence IGR the credit belongs to Tinubu who met 600 million a year in 1999 and by the time he left office was running a budget of 240 billion. Tinubu re-engineered the finances and What he left continued to grow
I dont think i am way off the mark. , Tinubu laid great foundation, no doubt about that, even Fowler the now FIRS chairman was brought in by Tinubu in 2006 as LIRS chairman. The report below showed at the end of 2005, it was 4 billion monthly, 2006 5billion+ monthly ,....... All in all, Fasholas input in IGR drive can not be understated.

The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos State, for the first quarter of the year 2008 (January to March), has been put at a whooping sum of N31.5 billion with a monthly average revenue of N10.5 billion accruing to the state treasury for the period.

This disclosure was made the Lagos State Internal revenue generation Executive Chairman, Mr. Tunde Fowler at the one-day meeting organised by the Lagos State government with professional association in Lagos at the weekend.

According to Fowler, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), being the major funding arm of the government has taken on the challenge of increasing the IGR of the state through the adoption and implementation of various strategies, which have impacted positively on revenue generation and collection, with the IGR moving from N30.1 billion in 2003 to N94.6 billion in 2007, which happens to be a percentage increase of about 315 per cent.

Furthermore, he gave a background to the state's IGR from a period of 2003 to the first quarter of 2008. He said the sum of N34.5 billion was sourced as IGR in 2004, with a monthly average of N2.8 billion and represents an increase of 114.75 per cent from the N30.1 billion figure recorded in 2008.
For the year 2005, the sum of N48.1billion was raked in with monthly average sum of N4 billion representing an increase of 139.4 per cent from that of 2004.

Fowler added that for year 2006, the sum of N66.8 billion was generated by the state with a monthly average of N5.6 billion and a percentage increase of 138.9 per cent from the previous year.
There was a phenomenal increase maintained by the state in year 2007, where the yearly IGR rose to N94.9 billion, showing a monthly average income of N7.9 billion and a percentage increase of 141.8 from that of 2006 figure.

Meanwhile, the governor of Lagos State, who was the chief host at the meeting used the occasion to hammer on the need why Lagosians must pay their taxes.
Governor Fashola said for there to be an efficient and effective mechanism that would ensure that people were really getting the dividends of democracy as it should be, there is need to have and put in place a system to generate the revenue.
Fashola said the state would do everything possible to enforce all laws that would ensure that the people comply with the directive, both those already living in the state and those coming in.

" Now there are two sides to the process of building an efficient tax system. Government has a role to play, no doubt; but the citizens have an even greater one," stated the state governor. http://www.thenigeriabusiness.com/eco119.html
