Mlaide:They can only go home when Nigeria divide. Kwankwaso have told you people to shut up, that anywhere you live in Nigeria is your home, Lagos is the home of Igbo people living it, currently occupying 45% and paying their tax for good of Lagos their home. 3 Likes |

Mlaide: Ode! Move the ports from Lagos and see if one igbo man remains in your heaven. Mind you for political purposes the NPA in PH is "arguably" moribund. This is the the Atikus play with Intel to divert major port activities to Lagos. Perhaps you have forgotten so soon that Lagos received inhabitants after its naming as the Federal capital coupled with the advantages of it being a port, so I expect the Bwaris and other Abuja locals to rant to your yoruba brothers in times to come. Are we not derailing this topic with the unnecessary inflammatory hate-filled tribal leaning comments? Wouldn't it be better if we begin to proffer ideas on how States with low IGR can beef up their revenue? We will be adding value also when we scrutinise how our political leaders and public officials are spending this revenue. For example, with over 270 billion monthly revenue is Lagos of today the best we can get? Same for Rivers, Delta,Kano, Akwa-Ibom, etc We can also explore how we can make some States centers for excellence for medical tourism thereby stemming the tide of incessant foreign trips to treat malaria and begin to attract people from the ECOWAS region seeking improved healthcare. Some areas can be built up as centers of excellence in information technology, manufacturing, tourism, financial services, etc. Lets make this topic more productive and less divisive. As at today, we all are stuck together as one country (and for good!) God has blessed Nigeria, now let's make our blessings count! 4 Likes |

bayulll01:Taa park one side abeg, the white people discovered Lagos when only Egun, Aworis and ijaws was living in it, the white colonist sand filled it and make it what it was today, later the Bini king send expedition to Lagos and captured it and later hand it over to the white colonizers, then later migrant Yorubas started pouring in from the hinterland followed by the igbos and others, in the old western Nigeria, Lagos is not part of South Western Nigeria and that is what Nigeria constitution recognized, geopolitical zones is not recognized by Nigeria constitution, don't go and read books written by Yorubas to soot their interest, the same way they coined a fake story about Oduduwa, where as Oduduwa is one of the runaway banished Benin prince as well documented in Benin ancient archives. Are they not closer to Alaigbo? Bunch of liars. Lagos was before Federal Government came, it was when FG was here and it is after FG departure and will forever be. 3 Likes |

Rayhut: Revisionists. You are liar. Even Oba of Benin can nver tell you Oduduwa is the son of runaway prince, when the crown he is wearing is one of our forfathers. Why is the seat bearing ''Oba''? Why do they bury all their Kings in Ife? What is the root word of Benin? It is from which language? SO when the Benin war expedition got to Eko, they did not meet people there abi? Ijaws do not have any stake in Lagos. They are migrants. It is Aworis territory. What is the meaning of Awori. What is the history of the aworis? Let us even agree that they conquer an Island which is Lagos Island. By virtue of being the owners of the crown of their king, we are by extension the owners of anything and everything they own. Abeg park well. We are well tutored and brought up in our history. For people that do not know history r do not have any, you cannot be a revisionist. 3 Likes |

ABEngine:you are missing the point. Northerners never wished for a centralised government at first. Every region depended on its resources and there was development in all three though varied. If Aguiyi hadn't introduced a central government, the eastern region would have had a 50% controlling interest(as with all regions that had their indigent resources) when oil was discovered on a massive scale in the Niger Delta. But due to greed for absolute power and short sightedness, Aguiyi went ahead and claimed all state owned assets and resources as exclusively the federal preserve. Now fast forward a few years when oil was discovered, the Northerners who saw the free and easy money from oil grew to like and fully utilise the central system of government. More or less, the cat was shown the easy way to catch an unlimited supply of fish in the stream, so you can't blame the Northerners if they are unwilling to let go of such free money. Blame Aguiyi Bro, not the Northerners. |

superstar1: Your reasoning would have been spot on if other SW states had similar revenue figures to that of Lagos state. If this report is true, it only supports the argument that Lagos state revenue is generated by the collective effort of all Nigerians. 2 Likes |

omonnakoda: It should then follow that other SW states under Yoruba administration would generate similar revenue figures. But none come close. Lagos is in the SW, no contest but yorubas can not single-handedly claim to have built Lagos's economy. It's like declaring that the Gwaris of Abuja made it what it is today. 1 Like |

Rayhut:Kwankwaso never used said shut up but he rather pleaded by saying the Fulanis are illiterates and as such they don't know that they're wrong & please stop saying Igbos make up 45% of Lagos population because Igbos only make up 15 to 18% of Lagos population. As per your claim that they pay tax can't be disputed because most people that are eligible to pay tax do pay & Igbos contribute less than 8% in terms of tax distribution and tax is also paid to eastern state governments by Yorubas who work and those that do business there, so issue of tax doesn't warrant the kind of noise Igbos make since People of diverse ethnic groups pay tax wherever they do business. Finally, let me state that the highest percentage of tax comes from company tax( multinationals, factories, banks etc), others comes from payee, property taxes etc, so people should get their facts right. 1 Like |

somegirl1:We are not talking of the economy but the ability of government to extract revenue from the economy .This is a measure of administrative acumen and not a proxy for the economy. It would be foolish to presume that the list of IGR is a ranking of Economies by size If your focus is the Yoruba thing why limit yourself to SW is Kwara not Yoruba? No Yorubas did not single-handedly build Lagos or anything no one is claiming that . The point is the revenue was there to be extracted but never was in Lagos. Why? but those Yoruba states are performing Look at Ogun Oyo and Kwara. Ekiti state is in the PDP camp but we will turn it around . That is the poorest Yoruba state and the least developed. |
Re: States Internally Generated Revenue: See How Much Your State Generates. by superstar1(m): 1:09pm On Oct 26, 2015 |
somegirl1: Better put, instead of telling us some cock and bull story of how Igbos made it possible. We cane never deny the fact that other Nigerians contributed, but telling us Igbos are responsible is irresponsible and provocative. Another fact that can not be denied is that the peaceful nature of the SW environment made it possible for others to always migrate there. Is Kano not populated and cosmopolitan? People have the choice of living in Enugu, Dutse, Warri, but they chose to migrate to Lagos based on the opportunities it offers and those opportunities are premised on security of lives and property that is obtainable. |

omonnakoda:Might be a measure of administrative acumen but appears to be lacking in other SW states. Other SW states should be several tens of millions ahead of non-SW states if the acumen you speak of is an innate Yoruba trait. 2 Likes |
