but how many people can afford what u can afford sir ,u can have a foreign window design that's because u av everything in place to keep yourself safe, but the average nigerians won't even dare try to use the foreign designs considering their Wallets and security, that's why our market can only offer what the masses can afford and thats why we are changing designs little by little till we can be rest assured in having those foreign designs. I installed dis windows recently , the client got it from China

I'm building a house for Egun and family, not for average Nigeria.

A good shop will have solutions for different spectrum of clientele.

Just want to learn what's possible.

For artisans, please when I share a picture it's usually because it's something that I like and would want. I'm not looking to change your industry, I just want to know if you can get it done for me.

Thank you.

They are both aluminium but as they explained to me, the material they apply on metcoppo before painting is different. Without the material they apply on aluminium used for metcoppo, there is no way it won't get damaged during pressing. The surface of metcoppo is rough (embossed).

Thank you. Knowing that you will research anything you want to acquired to death (like Pastor Alhaji EgunMogaji) I will surely believe whatever I hear from you and although I was thinking about Longspan (0.55) for my latest project, I may now be thinking about the Metcoppo.
I just don't like Aluminium step tiles with the thought that the area they pressed it with the design will get rusted quickly if not done well.
But Spyder has also praised Metcoppo, so I may be looking into that. FastShipping, thanks for the education, as this is why we are all on this thread and Nairaland in general.

sir, with a close observation, I've seen most Longspan aluminium rust from beneath(silver), I'm not saying lonsgpan is not good too but compare the ability to withstand every weather conditions and metcoppo doesnt create much heat to the house compared to Longspan Aluminium.metcoppo panel is made of two pre-painted galvanized sheets with a polyurethane core. It is recommended for use in roofing for buildings with high aesthetic requirements.

I thought Aluminium is not supposed to rust?

We seem to take pictures of foreign designs and we don't consider the Nigeria maintainance system, if we have a sliding window and swing on one frame, how long do u think it can last with the way we use things in Nigeria, it can be beautifully made, but do we ask ourselves, how many times we open our windows, how many people can take precautions to maintain them..

Those windows are opened in the summer but for most of the remaining part of the year, due to the cold weather, they remain shut.
They dont even have Burglary-Proof in them!

Now, consider Nigeria where there is hardly light and at times, petrol is scarce, rain is crazy, not to mention our 34-Degree Centigrade weather!
When that window gets opened and closed five times every day, l bet you it will need replacement within one year!

The issue is not how it's used, Nigerian is not unique in that sense, but the quality of the construction. The windows of where I leave nwo were installed in the 70's and still works. We open them daily and close them when we go out so they get used all the time.

I've never ever repaired a window in all my time in the US.

Nigeria is not on Mars mi oga grin

I think you are missing the point!

Nigeria is unique in certain things that affect what we can do.

take a car body paint for example.

I have used a vehicle in the states for five years, parked under the sun, rain and snow and the paint hardly showed any discoloration.

I shipped the same type of vehicle down to Nigeria about the same time, for my folks back home and within two years, it needed to be re-sprayed! My Dad is a car-lover and takes very good care of his car (over the years) and `when he told me it is discoloured, l knew it was from parking it under our inclement weather!

My point is, it does not always work in Nigeria, the way it works yonder.

NB: I agree with you on the "quality" statement tho', all things being equal.

honestly they can't last when our weather is involved sir. I got some things sent over to me recently and I was surprise that such expensive ladies bag couldn't stand our weather, they were peeling off. These people produce what could survive their weathers and some have the specific period you can use them, there wears you can use during summer and u can't use during winter vice-versa. Here in Nigeria, can one dare not to have a burglary in windows, chaii a lot go happen.

sir, these Aluminium roofing materials loses its quality gradually but not at once..we have bad weather conditions in naija and these materials are exposed to them directly, they will always be losing their strength gradually..oyinbo no build wetin man go use for a long long time without buying another, when considering materials we should have in mind that it can mess up anytime even before the time given. Sir, Bring it to the table for us and we can always work it out provided those materials used are in our market today.. Some clients are more exposed than us, that's why we will keep learning new things and having a teamwork with our clients is what I welcome .. One day nigeria will be safe enough to have those designs used in every house but no one dare try having a window without burglary for now except u have enough security

Mi Oga AdeEkiti, I work hard so that I get what I want. It took me a long time to finally find an architect that will listen to me and design what I want and not just what's available. I take no compromise.

When it's time to do my windows and doors I suspect that it'll take me time too because I'll be looking for someone to cater to MY needs and not what's available.

You can have doors and windows that are secure regardless of size.

Oga Adeekiti,

Pure Aluminium is a a metal on the Periodic table and by its molecular component, it does not "rust/react" with air and water.

Therefore, in its "pure form", IT DOES NOT RUST!

This has nothing to do with what "oyinbo manufacture", Sir!

It is either Aluminium.... or it is not.

Like I once commented sir, the good ones are not gaining market strength like the packaged ones, not until we have enforcers who can move away those packaged ones to clear ways for the quality ones, one can't compare the ones that was made and brought to nigeria when they started existing to the ones in our recent market. We pray the height of frauds could be tackled in our dear country. We re different people made of different conscience

From the look of things.. There aren't any documents signed and the job was agreed on based on gentleman's agreement. You won't be seeing any lawsuits sir..

Reality is that MOST documents/agreement in Nigeria are not worth the paper that they are written on!

How many agreements do you sign with your sand supplier?

Hope you also know that you don't need a WRITTEN agreements to demonstrate existence of an agreement?

Even when agreements exist, you try to avoid arbitration/litigation. It gives you bad press. A business can DIE just because of bad publicity. Changing of names (usernames etc) will not always help.

I am currently roofing the 8 flats in Enugu with Metcoppo, I have many many bad experiences while roofing with Metcoppo , they leak too often!

We now found out that the corrugations machines could be faulty, (in that particular company) it was stamping too hard as to puncture the sheets . I have taken the job somewhere else and now have a good job. I will post the pictures later when I get to site later today.

In situation like this, I advice people on what should be quality upfront. Roof is not something you want to revisit after 2 or 5 years, the cost of pulling off the roof and carrying out repairs that time will be thrice what you should have spent to get a quality material.

I'll rather prefer you use Nigerite roofing than those cheap roofs. Most of the places I've seen them, they seem to have rust and fade faster than any other types of roof. Also, they're lighter gauge aluminum which is highly susceptible to leakage at nail points.

But if that's what you can afford for now, get a good installer to help you fix and seal up all the nail points.

I hope this helps.
Thanks for ur response... I will prefer to hold to get more fund to do dis than get wot l only last for 2-5yrs.. Wch nigerite roofing sheet r u recommending, wot is d life span like, and cost implication?

Sometimes I get the idea that you may not be orientated with the Nigerian system, and you tend to compare a lot of things between USA / Nigeria. Again, without any prejudice or disrespect, they are 2 difference things, so whilst its good you exhibit ideas from USA, unfortunately I feel that you have to be pragmatic on whether such a system will work in Nigeria. You tend to compare a system where things work most of the time to one where things don't usually work, and when it works, it works differently to the way you know it in USA.

You also need to understand the system, not everyone/everything is like that but all I am saying is that you need to exercise caution and put the Nigerian perspective into some of your ideas.

Just me 2 cents.

To the authentic builders in the house and anyone who has a lot of knowledge on the roofing subject matter.
I see stone coated roofing sheet by DS korea. What I dont udnerstand is that why is there a variation in prices ?
The importers located around Sangotedo (Batlan) are quoting around 2,900 per sqm and some others are quoting 2,300 - 2,400 for stone coated DS or DOS. Why is there a variation.

Oga Maverick,
Thanks for your input here.
I guess some people live in fairy worlds where they think everywhere on earth is the same without consideration for the people/culture of the Terrain.
How can you compare a country where you have 24/7 light to one where you only get it for 3 or 4 hours day (if you are lucky)?
A country where they can catch a killer even after 24 years to one where the killer is well known and no one can do a thing.
A country where you go and report a case to the police and have some confidence that justice will be done to a country where you go report a crime and you may end up seeing the man that robbed you last night behind the counter taking your statement.

Yes Nigerian is on this planet but can anyone honestly say that Nigeria is not unique in its way of life?

Yes we have courts,we have lawyers, we police but do these establishments work as they should? Maybe for the rich and maybe for some lucky ones but definitely not for the majority of the country.

I lived in UK for over 15 years and even hard places like Peckham, Brixton, Hackney did not have burglary proof in all the houses.

Now I am back in Nigeria and I visit some of my uncles who have alot of money and security and they have burglary proof all over the place. Is it that they cannot afford to put the best fashioned windows in place? is it that they can't afford other forms of security? Trust me they can afford all the above and yet they still live in cages like the rest of us.

Nigerians hope and pray for a better Nigeria but until then we are where we are and we deal with things with the tools at our disposals and not how people outside think it should be dealt with.

I am owed 9m naira for some plots of land that I bought years ago from so-called developer. I have done everything in my power to get my plots or my money back but to no avail.

I have gone to the police and reported the case. The man has signed all sorts on undertakings but yet to make payment. Even the police adviced me not to take it to court. they said the court can tell him to start paying 10K a month and that will be the end. Am i going to take 10K a month on 9m? how long will that take.

Even the police have told me that when I eventually get my money back they will charge me 10% for their services and I have been told that is a standard for any money the police get back for you.

Now tell me if this is the same judiciary system that we should rely on when people take the piss with our hard-earned money?

My Dad is a car-lover and takes very good care of his car (over the years) and `when he told me it is discoloured, l knew it was from parking it under our inclement weather!

My point is, it does not always work in Nigeria, the way it works yonder.

NB: I agree with you on the "quality" statement tho', all things being equal.

I don't think I'm missing the point at all.

I have a good friend that moved back home.

His cars are the same as they were now going on 5 years without needing a respray.

He's a car nut like me and he washes and waxes his car religiously. Used good quality car specific soap and wax. He doesn't let grime from all the dust and mud sit on the car for days.

Sorry but I don't buy that Sir. Nigeria is not any different from parts of the south.

Now he changes o2 sensors often due to bad gas, you can't refine your own gas but you can do a lot of other stuff.

That's ok. each to their own opinion.
If I am lazy then I guess you are so clued up that you know how everything operates.

Good luck......

That's a feminine argument style, I never said that I knew how everything works. On the contrary you are the one claiming that you know how the US works when you probably haven't lived there for any length of time.

Any aggrieved person can go to court and at least come back and post a copy of the lawsuit.

Just stop trying to paint a woe is me picture of Nigeria to me.

You mean it is practical to run A.C, 24/7... just because one can afford it?

Its not always about the money.
Practicality, convenience, economics,Electricity, safety and a gamut of other things come into play!

Its like l laugh when l see some Nigerians install "fireplace" in their living room!
Thats just "blind, copy-copy" mentality!

The Westerners that use a fireplace, use it for a practical purpose.... not just a beauty accessory that Nigerians have turned it into.

Why would anyone run A/C 24/7 in Nigeria? It is not hot in Nigeria 365 days a year?
