Fayose Commends Odua Investment over N150 Million Dividend
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose
Olakiitan Victor in Ado Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has commended Odua Investment Company Limited for paying N150 million dividend to the five states, which own the company.

Fayose said the N30 million, which Ekiti got from the money would go a long way at alleviating the sufferings of the people and impact meaningfully on the economy if well invested.

The governor, who spoke in Ado Ekiti said the payment of the dividend after about six years that the conglomerate failed to give anything to the owner-states was commendable and showed that the group still had the interest of the people at heart.

He said: "I am happy that the management of the conglomerate has been able to improve on the fortunes of the company. The N30 million given to each of the owner-states is an encouragement to the states to further support the company.

"The management was able to raise the revenue base of the company for the year 2014 and recorded some profits despite the tough economic terrain we are in. I want to implore the management not to rest on their oars. They must continue to raise the standard...

Good work. cheesy Odua Investments had one of the best textile mills known as Odua Textile at the border between Ikere-Ekiti and Ado-Ekiti, in those days. I don't think the textile mill is still functional, anymore. But I have been impressed by the efforts of the South-West governors to keep the Odua Investment Group functional for so many years. Their slogan has always been "sustaining the heritage of the people." undecided

It used to be run by govt appointees in the past, but about a decade ago, the governors decided to run it as 'an independent private commercial venture by independent Board of Directors comprising seasoned professionals with vast experience in business and human resources management.'

They brought in skilled technocrats to manage the corporation, and invited enterprising Yoruba industrialists such as the late Otunba Jobi-Fele of Jobitex, Chief Ade-Ojo of Toyota etc., to serve as Chairmen and board members. The fortunes of Odua Group were revived, and today its' revenue is about =N=4.29 billion, out of which =N=150 million was paid as dividends to its shareholders.

New Yoruba newspaper, IROYIN OWURO, out

Source- The Guardian

AT a time many are clamouring for the revival of indigenous languages and other values, a new Yoruba newspaper called IROYIN OWURO has been unveiled.

With a seasoned librarian/journalist, Asafa Salam, as its editor, the weekly publication hit the newsstand last December.

According to its publishers, it is a general-news medium with a bias for the socioeconomic and cultural development of the Yoruba and Nigerians in general.

One of its publishers, Mr. Yinka Alabi, explained that IROYIN OWURO came on stream to fill the gap created by newspapers published in the English Language.

He said that millions of people who cannot read or write in English or are not in mainstream communities had been more or less isolated.

“But we want to fill the gap here. We want to report people, events and institutions the way the media published in English do. We are set for the revival of Yoruba culture and language, but we will report politics, economy, entertainment, sports and business in a factual, up-to-date and inspiring manner,” the publisher said.
