IlekeHD: Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with "defensive mode". It is more of a house in disarray and divided - with one side that sold its soul to PDP for a plate of porridge. And a next side in APC that got outwitted in the scheme of things. I had a lot of hope in the one in APC, to even push for federalism once they win, since they controlled the party structure during the elections...but they failed woefully and lost in the subsequent powerplay to the cow jockeys lol. As for the one in PDP - they're making a lot of noise now to passively antagonise the APC faction, by being loud, about a cause that's definitely just - but I still don't rate them. The both sides just need to bury the hatchet and talk about the way forward for Yorubas. Yoruba is bigger than party politics and Nigeria. We were there before Nigeria and we'll be there after Nigeria. The way forward is what we need now since both already lost, unless some pseuds want to live in denial. 2 Likes |

Aareonakakanfo: Yes, he started off well and he was on my list of the Yoruba governors I like - but he failed woefully at the end. I don't think you can put that on him cos the state is very poor and the meagre allocations can't sustain the big dreams he had. He should have looked for ways to increase the state's IGR before embarking on that big dream. I believe a lot Yorubas in the new world visit Osun annually for all kinds of festivals. That's one area he should have invested heavily in and perhaps other areas to boost the state's revenue - before anything else. Regardless, I like a lot of his policies though. 3 Likes |

Shymm3x: Problem is, if Yorubas don't play this power play game, I fear the North will suck Nigeria dry. We're the only ones in their path. Nigeria is a chess game. |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Shymm3x: 10:12pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
IlekeHD: But you can't win against them based on how the country is structured. Cover ya rear end before reaching for a pipe-dream. Err, they got a ceremonial post in the powerplay, while the home front is in disarray and divided, and other groups gaining ground in the SW. |

superstar1: I never said he's worthy of emulation. I just like the policies. At the end of day, for a country to grow - you must invest heavily in education and make the kids interested in school. And he did try to do that. He just never executed it properly. |

IlekeHD: We can when the chips are down. We did it during June 12 actualisation struggle. We are the only ones that can checkmate those guys in this country, provided we are united the way we did during the June 12 wahala. |

Shymm3x: In terms of having a clue about what a leader should do, I give that to him. He lacks implementation skills totally. Some of the ideas are laudable and novel but he lacks the discipline and administrative skills to see them through. |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by IlekeHD: 10:19pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
Shymm3x: Yes. Imagine how Buhari boldly selects Northerners (90%) yet Yoruba mumunatus keep supporting his moves, stating that the most qualified should get the positions. Do we not have qualified Yorubas for the positions? 2 Likes |

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Gbawe: 10:27pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
IlekeHD: The problem is that Yoruba leaders of the past were myopic and obsessed with frivolities. I don't see any reason why any well-led region in Nigeria cannot be exemplary, developed and united if led by visionary men and women who can focus on what matter the most. For example, the SW should be able to cobble together efficient solutions for things it can control like the provision of potable water, adequate healthcare, transport infrastructure et al. The current crop of Yoruba leaders simply need to be visionary, highly dedicated and disciplined. No region is constrained to work at Nigeria's pace if its leaders are driven, talented and dedicated. |

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by superstar1(m): 10:34pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
IlekeHD: The sense of injustice to the region and to the yoruba race played a pivotal role in uniting us. I believe there is conflict of philosophy and interests in the current bunch of perceived yoruba leaders, which is not making all of them to sing the same tune. I believe there must be a forum that will jettison politics and be a front for advocacy of yoruba agenda, irrespective of political affiliation. Afenifere did this very well in the past before they suddenly turned to SW PDP Arm. Egbe omo odua of Awo did that very well too. 2 Likes |
Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by superstar1(m): 10:38pm On Nov 05, 2015 |
Gbawe: I think we need to forge a regional front and develop accordingly. We also need a forum that is devoid of political affiliation, that will be the think tank of the yoruba race in SW and other parts of the world. The forum should unite all under a common umbrella. 1 Like |

IlekeHD: But can you blame him? What did those before him do? When you're in a competitive environment like that, where interests diverge, along different fault lines - it is natural to play like that. Heck, the politics is tribal. At the end of the day, it is the same everywhere across the globe - the word "tribal" just varies from place to place. In certain climes, it is ethnicity/race/association - depending on how everything is structured. That is why David Cameron packed all his Eton schoolmates and folks from Southern England into his government. Ditto George Bush and how he packed his mates from Yale and skull & bones into his government. And why black folks in America are complaining about the lack of proper black representation in Obama's government despite the fact that he's just a mere figure-head POTUS - a mere appendage with no power. Only disillusioned plebs call themselves "detribalised". You can only fault him for not playing ball the right away and maintaining loyalty since two regions put him in power. Aside that, you can't fault him for anything else. The only m0rons out there are the ones who don't know they have lost out but still hanging onto a caricature to the detriment of their people. Buhari's moves are very strategic and he knows what he's doing. Northerners aren't as dumb as most vacuous/loud Southerners think - Ahmadu Bello schooled them about supreme politics, hence no matter what cards the Southerners play, they always into their hands and hand them more dominion over the country. |
