scholes0: The Edos/Binis say it differently that the word is theirs. It would be expected that the Urhobos, who are Edoid, should be more inclined towards the Edos than Yorubas Do you have published evidence for the 'ogiso changing of names?' Because this a great distortion of facts. 1 Like |

bigfrancis21: How can Oba be an Edo word, yet only Benin is the only major town in Edo state (minus the Akoko-Edo axis) with a king who carries the title? Their position is understandable though... No tribe wants to be seen as offshoots or scions of another. As expected, the Binis have often frowned at the derivation of their cherished traditions, Including many of the gods they worship from Yorubaland. http://www.britannica.com/topic/ogiso 14 Likes |

macof: I was also a little perplexed by the emboldened. I know the Igbo (especially the southern Igbo) have a savings system called Isusu, which they say they've had since the precolonial days. But I've also seen claims that the Yoruba have a similar system which they call Esu or Esusu. @OP: Do the Urhobo use 'ugo' for 'eagle' or is it just the Orogun that do? 4 Likes |

bigfrancis21: Olodo ni bobo yi o And I heard this guy is a mod, really? Goodboiy: Bros you make sense, make I add: Ancient Benin/Edo used Oghiso, not Oba. Prior to Oduduwa, Ife (Yoruba) had several hamlets all headed by Kings. The lineage of these kings are still in existance and these kings still play the role of controlling their hamlets with Ooni being the overall head thereby reducing them to what seems like 'Chief-King' status. Some of these kings before Oranmiyan was born or even went to set up Oba Benin in Benin Empire were: Obalufe, Obawinrin, Obalaaye, Obatala, Obadio, Obaloran, Obajio, Obalurin, Obanurin, Obalale, Obalesun, Obalejugbe, Obalepon the list is long, I'll stop here. From the above, tell me how 'Oba' which means 'the person overseeing, sitting, lording over everything' is a Benin word again. And how Yoruba supposedly borrowed it from Benin and used it for many centuries before Oranmiyan went to give Benin 'Oba of Benin' dynasty. That Big fornothing Francis no sabi anything at all. 28 Likes 5 Shares |

DikeOha882: Goodboiy is right. Apart from Okpara which is the name of a village, the other terms are appellations whose meanings are lost to history. They are probably borrowed names. There is nothing peculiarly Urhoboic about them. 2 Likes |

the Real Hebrew Israelites in the Bible are Black people (Bantu) of Africa. Song of Solomon 1:5-6 King James Version (KJV) I AM BLACK, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I AM BLACK, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. click, read , and like my Facebook Page for more information--- http://m.facebook.com/Hebrew-Israelite-Philosophy-810628495726004/ |

Good research - but you could have said words used in the different languages mentioned and not suggesting the words originally belong to the ibos or yoruba. The originality of those words is a subject for another thread |
