absoluteSuccess: It's insecurity and something the Igbo nation has to overcome. It's getting out of hand.....it's becoming pathetic to see bigfrancis misinform the public and to turn this section to anti-Yoruba under Seun's watch. The guy was a tribalist before he became a mod. Watch him delete our posts. 12 Likes 3 Shares |

enigmatique: Igbos equally use nko. People should stop thinking in one direction. An Igboman will ask Ogor gi kwanu? or Ogor e nkor? depending on the dialect of Igbo which is in hundreds. Let us just know that Igbo-Edo-Yoruba spoke one language in distant past and have experienced inter migrations even in more recent times. 2 Likes |

I believe all languages borrow from other languages at a point in time, so no language can't b quite unique to itself without some form of interference from other languages. Again we should understand that languages evolve around the environment in interacts with e.g the Portuguese call gold "Oro" and that is what the Urhobos also call it probably as a result from interactions with the Portuguese. Finally, let's all realise that language is dynamic and not static. 1 Like |

Bigfrancis21, I think we've had enough of the derailing of the thread via this proxy war. Enough is enough. There are loads of Urhobo people who never grew up at home and can't speak the language. This thread is to help them at least learn some words not for yoruba and igbos to come and start claiming superiority. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Abagworo: Nko is a Yoruba word, used as a question marker like "se". Yoruba has become such a national language over time that you guys are beginning to see it as your native language. Even the pidgin English has adopted Yoruba words as slangs. 50 years from now, we'll have this same conversation about "wahala", "jor/jare" etc. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Ewa in Yoruba means beans and same in Urhobo, but there are Urhobo words for beans which are peculiar to "Us" i.e the ésha is a different specie of beans while the white one is called "iré". So depending on your dialect/part of Urhoboland you hail from they could mean one and same or different, as for me I am from Olomu and iré and ésha are distinctly different. 2 Likes |

One day an ignorant father will tell his children OBA is not a Yoruba word but a Bini word, 15 years later, the ignorant father has transfer his ignorance to his next generation, the ignorant adults will begin to argue with other enlighten people that they know for a fact OBA is not a Yoruba word.
