Yes i prefare more experience at d back as u know that is d major weakness in dat team. I would nt want Ighalo in this team cos i would love to see us raise younger forwards dat can compete for position with Ighalo in d attack.

And may I know y u prefer Musa over Ambrose and Ndidi over Omeruo?Remember Ambrose is a natural centre back.

Musa Mohammed has speed and he function well in the attack and his recovery rate is hog her than Ambrose , I see him becoming a better player before the tournaments proper , don't forget, he can handle dead ball and set pieces , I want us to have numerous options in that category . Although Ambrose can attack too but his recovery rate can't be compare to to the young blood . And Omeruo is injury prone , he can be a calamity on his off day , Ndidi can play that role also play as a dm very well ....

Yeah, the problem with this team is more with the midfield and defense. But thank God we got the ticket. The final against Algeria is nt much of importance to me.

Truth is 75% of this team may not make the Olympics. For that defense the following Super Eagles players are eligible as U23s: Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong, Chima Akas and Kingsley Madu not also forgetting the uprising Wilfred Ndidi. Note also that Musa Mohammed (the 2015 U20 Captain) would be available for selection. Remember we can present 3 over-aged players; I would personally recommend 2 defenders (Leone Balogun and Efe Ambrose/Obaobona) and 1 defensive midfielder (Ogenyi Onazi).
Imagine our backline and DMF to be:

Balogun.......Ambrose/Obaobona.....Omeruo......Madu/Akas

.........................Onazi

Possible Substitute defenders: Troost-Ekong, Ndidi, Mohamed, Oduduwa, Sincere
This is a defense troop that can get the job done in Rio.

The following players have staged a claim to places in the Rio Team (Not necessarily starting 11): Emmanuel Daniel (Should be promoted straight to the Super Eagles), Oghenekaro Etebor, Azubuike Okechukwu, Stanley Dimgba and Junior Ajayi. The other players will have to try hard in camp to impress the Siasia led Crew knowing fully well that we still have players like; Isaac Success, Imoh Ezekiel, Moses Simon, Godwin Saviour, Kelechi Iheanacho, Elderson Esiti, Alex Iwobi including 6 defenders I earlier mentioned. Also I believe Siasia will give Kingsley Sokari and Etor Daniel another opportunity to correct their wrongs.

My Dream starting line up:

.........................Daniel

Balogun...........Ambrose............Omeruo............Madu

.........................Onazi
.......................................Azubuike

First off Ambrose is nt a natural Right back he is a Centre Back. U should ur comparison of Musa Mohamed with Leon Balogun or even Abdulahi Shehu dat stood in for Injured Balogun. Lets even imagine Ambrose is to play at right Back and u also have Mohammed in d team and u'll field Mohammed over Ambrose?

Musa Mohammed really did well at those cadet tourneys bt I dnt really think he may have easily walked into this team in Senegal talkless of when Ambrose and Balogun are brought in as over age.

And if Omeruo is injury prone way out is to have Ndidi deputise for him.

U dnt throw away experience in football bro.

Bootleg Match Report.

1st off i have to finally agree with oga Icon4s, Junior Ajayi is a very talented footballer who plays with pure loyalty for his coach, i shall follow the lad from now on and i wish him the best.

Osimhen has broken the trend. I didn't know what to expect when he came in but what we got was the same thang. He was even more physical than the Senagalise defenders, his run timing was off and that was probably the only sign there was to know he is a 16 year old.

The game was interestingly dull. It ended with only a goal but had alot more chances. Senegal will rue this match because their finishing was not at the level they should have expected. I do wonder why Siddy Sarr was kept on the bench so long, seems Iheanachoish to me.

Our Keeper Daniels was my man of the match, he stopped a penalty and also made a mind blowing one on one stop to keep us in the game. Although the penalty was his fault he didnt do much wrong before and after.

Thanks. Fact is for Ajayi to lead the attack of an NPFL team at d age of 19 it shows he is a talented young player. Now u'll consider reasoning y he was nt selected for d last U20. This brings d question of whether d scouts of our youth teams are doing enough?

Victor Osimhen to me won that match for us. His contribution was so immense and he showed so much confidence and for a 16yrs old.He opened up d game.

As for Emmanuel Daniel, that guy should be promoted to d Super Eagles. Carl Ikeme may b a short term replacement for Enyeama but I see Emmanuel Daniel as a possible long term replacement. I know there is also Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu on the line bt I think in Emmanuel Daniel we have a better prospect.

Yes, the formation looks tempting and promising. Bulk of the players would surely form the fulcrum of our super eagle later .
But one thing we lack is consistency of playing together due to frequent changes of the team handlers.

My problem with the team is that there is no passmaster. Which is key to Siasia's game plan. Coach Siasia likes his teams keeping the ball. Without this kind of player, his teams crumble.

Among the three over age players, I say we get Mikel. That is one pass master I know.

It must not be Mikel but someone in that mold. If there is no one, get Mikel. Siasia should invite Nwobodo also to camp and try him.

Ok thank God we made it to the Olympics. Now i can drop my 3 overage players.

1. No question about this Vincent Enyeama. Mr Nigeria for the past 10 years. I hope the troubled water is under the bridge because when Enyeama plays Nigeria is always in the game. I don't think he plans on retiring from football he just wants others to get a chance and this could be our chance to give a truly great a proper send off.

2. Odion Jude Ighalo could be the most known Nigerian by the time the Olympics roll around, right now he is in the running to be the top goal getter in England. He hasn't done much internationally but which super eagles has in the past years?

3. ??. If Mikel starts playing again cool. If not Onazi, i believe he will be 24 by then. Before his injury we all know what he brought to the table. Our form ever since is an exact replica of his, since the world cup both the super eagles and Onazi have not reached the true level's of their capabilities. The man is more important than he is given credit for. Lately he has showed flashes of his usual brilliance and i am banking on him to even lead us to the world cup.

Hmmm... well, good points. But I dnt share ur views in ur first 2 especially no 1. Enyeama is gone for good. The way forward now is to groom a young goalie to replicate Enyeama. Fine, Carl Ikeme is doing a good job for the time being but age is not on his side. Besides lets wait till his first major tourney eg the AFCON to really assess him. We need to groom a younger goalie and I think Emmanuel Daniel has shown flashes of greatness. He should be given the opportunity to sell himself to the European Market and also gather experience.

For ur point 2; Odion Ighalo: He is currently our best striker but I will personally rank him slightly above average more like 6/10. I have known and followed Odion Ighalo since he featured in our U20 squad in 2009. He has never been a fantastic striker. Infact he flopped at that U20 tourney along with his co-overated Danny Uchechi. I followed him when he was at Udinese before being loaned to Granada. He also played for the Dream Team V alongside Anthony Ujah, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Lukman Haruna, Gbolahan Salami and co. I can tell u that Odion Ighalo is at the best form of his career. He jst started scoring goals barely over a year ago. I am jst being only skeptical that he doesn't turn out to be another Emmanuel Emenike: Two years of good run and that's the end.We need to groom young strikers to secure the future of our Super Eagles attack. I will suggest Siasia should hand over all the forward roles to the real U23. I will like to see how the likes of Simon, Saviour, Dimgba, Etebor, Iheanacho, Imoh, Success and co dazzle opponents at the Olympics as those are some of the boys we are looking at for 2018 WC. Especially Isaac Success: this guy to me is one of the most underrated and under-reported Nigerian young talents. And I think the Olympics is this big stage for him to impress the world and move away from that slave master club called Granada.

I agree with u and TheGoodJoe on the choice of Mikel in the midfield but if Siasia has to chose from between Onazi and Mikel, I think Onazi would add more value as we need a solid defensive Midfielder that can also support the defense and attack.

[b]Onazi is an asset but the system is what I am looking at. If you watched Coach Siasia's training sessions, like the one in Port Harcourt, he drills his teams a lot on keeping possession.

That is Siasia's philosophy and that position deserves the forst consideration. Any true follower of Nigerian football knows Mikel is up there with the best Nigerian to play that role.

The best of Mikel came under Coach Siasia because the coaches style suited Mikel.

Mikel should come in first. Nwobodo is the young cover for Mikel. Remember Nigeria vs South Korea at the 2005 U20 when Siasia removed Mikel and the team lost team work coordination.

The second overage player I tip is Hope Akpan. I know Onazi is brilliant and a tireless worker. He is like an engine but a player who can sit back and shield the defence is more important for the team to excel possessively.

Hope Akpan does this to a perfection. Since Sani Kaita. That is one defensive midfielder I have seen who just wants to protect the back four and give the creative players a chance to shine.

My over age picks are Mikel and Hope Akpan. To boost our midfield cohesiveness and reduce the loss of possession through faulty strong of passes.

I think the central midfield and the defensive midfield as the region that needs the most maturity and experience.

I want Mikel to play as a deep lying playmaker and not as a defensive midfielder. Like Scholes had Carrick behind him, Xavi had Busquets, Pirlo had Gattuso at AC Milan and Machisio at Juve, Xabi Alonso had Mascherano behind him at Liverpool.

I want Mikel operating that way with a defensive midfielder who would sit back and shield the defense. This will favor Coach Siasia's expansive style.

Nice team but I don't think we need Ambrose and Balogun in the team. We already have experience players for that position e.g Kenneth Omerue, Williams Troost-Ekong and Tiago Ilori. Even the likes of Manuel Akanji, Derek Osadebe, Moses Odubanjo, Elohor Ekpolo (Barcelona) and Dominic Iorfa (Wolverhampton) are all equally good enough to play in the defense.

Icon4s:

Bro football is nt like that o. "Experience and Maturity", u cant buy those from d market. Imoh is a much polished and experienced striker. Even Awoniyi's position will b threanted if both Imoh and Success show up in training.
if we go by your experience mantra, then the super Eagles with more experienced players should win the U23 team you listed

Nigeria get Awoniyi, Okechukwu boost
[/size]

Taiwo Awoniyi is back from injury

Nigeria will be boosted in Saturday’s U23 AFCON final against Algeria with the return to action of suspended skipper Azubuike Okechukwu and injured Taiwo Awoniyi.

However, Warri Wolves flying left winger Stanley Dimgba is still ruled out by an ankle injury even though he started light jogging in Thursday’s training.

Dimgba was Nigeria's most potent attacking threat before he was injured in a second group game against Egypt.

Okechukwu has served out his one-match suspension after he picked up his second booking against Algeria in a final group game, which ended in a scoreless draw, and officials informed Awoniyi is back training after an ankle injury kept him out of Wednesday’s semi-final against hosts Senegal.

Skipper Okechukwu is expected to reclaim his first-team place as defensive midfielder, but it is left to be seen if Awoniyi will be considered to partner Junior Ajayi in attack ahead of Warri Wolves striker Kufre Ebong, who has started the team’s last two matches even though he has failed to impress.

Liverpool loanee Awoniyi himself has yet to find his bearing in Senegal and has not scored a goal after he netted thrice with the Flying Eagles at the African Youth Championship in March, also in Senegal.

Motupa: Pressure will be on hosts

South Africa’s Gift Motupa says all the pressure will be on their opponents Senegal when the teams meet in the third-place playoff at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

While most bronze medal matches at major tournaments hold little interest for players or supporters, this match will be different: the winners will secure the final qualification berth for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Senegal lost 1-0 to Nigeria in the first semifinal on Wednesday, while SA were beaten 2-0 by Algeria. The respective winners have already secured passage to Rio 2016 and will battle in the final, set to be held after the third-place playoff.

Orlando Pirates attacker Gift Motupa told his club’s official website that South Africa has what it takes to avenge the 3-1 loss they suffered at the hands of Senegal in the opening match of the tournament, arguing that the hosts will have huge pressure on them.

"Look, no one likes to lose. It is always disappointing when we do but all is not lost. It’s one thing losing and being knocked out but with the third/fourth place playoff, we have a lifeline in a way because whoever wins there goes to the Olympics.

"Our match against Senegal will be a tough one. They are big and very physical but over and above that they are also technically sound.

"Fortunately for us, we come into this match with no pressure. We are considered the underdogs because for starters they [Senegal] are the hosts but also by the fact that they beat us in the opening game of the tournament… Pressure will be on them to perform and we look to capitalise on that."
