Good morning all, I was impressed by the solution provided by you guys, keep it. God will water your bread. Work. In ordinary meaning, work refers to any kind of physical or mental activity. But in physics, work is always associated with movement. Thus, work is said to be done if a force applied makes the object to move a distance in the direction of the applied force. Work is defined as the product of force and perpendicular distance in the direction of the applied force. It is denoted by w, measured in Joule and a scaler quantity. Mathematically; work = force X distance w = f X s since, force = mass X acceleration work = m X a X s. Example; A crane lifts a load of 2kg very slowly through a vertical distance of 100cm. Power. Power is the rate of workdone or the rate at which energy is expended. It is denoted by P, measured in Watt and it is a scaler quantity. The instrument for measurement is wattmeter. Mathematically; Power = workdone/time P = (F X S) / T recall that V = S/T P = FV. Where p is power(watt) f is force(N) s is distance(m) t is time(second) v is velocity(m/s). Example; A girl whose mass is 40kg walks up a flight of 20steps each in 150mm height in 10sec. Find the average power developed (g=10m/s2). Solution; m=40kg h=(20 X 150mm)=3m t=10sec. The abscissa is written next to the ordinate, eg A(x,y), B(3,5) etc. Scaler and Vector Quantities. Scaler; A quantity that has only a magnitude but no direction eg length, area, volume, mass, speed, energy, distant, etc. Vector; Quantity which has both a magnitude and a direction eg force, velocity, displacement, momentum, acceleration etc. The magnitude is shown by the length and the direction by the arrow representing the position or direction. Good morning all, how was the night? Heat Transfer. Heat can be transferred from one point to another in three media. These are solid, liquid and gas. Process of heat transfers in each medium are conduction, convention and radiation. Conduction. Conduction is the transfer of heat through a material from one place to another, by the vibration or motion of the molecules of the material. Most metals that allow heat to pass through them are said to be good conductors of heat. Non-metals such as wood, cork do not allow heat to pass through them are said to be poor conductors. Most liquids are poor conductors but there are some metals in liquid form which are good conductors eg Ag, Hg etc. |

Convection. Convection occurs in fluids eg gases and liquid. It is the process by which heat energy is transferred in a fluid by the actual movement of the heated fluid. Convectional Current. Convectional current is a characteristic exhibited by the heated fluid which involves the transfer of the heat energy from the hot region to the cold region so as to have a uniform distribution. The Sun emits its rays from the sky down to the Earth without any material medium i.e. through empty space. Radiation gives off a form of energy which is called radiant energy e.g. the emission of rays from the Sun. Radiant heat can be detected/measured using Leslie cube or thermopile. Note; Polished surface reflects heat, black surface absorb heat. Vacuum/Thermo Flask. The vacuum flask is used to keep the temperature or quality of its content constant. The flask regulation undergoes three main processes; 1. Cork; This helps to reduce heat loss by conduction. 2. Vacuum; This helps to reduce heat loss by convection and conduction, since they are both require material medium. 3.
