Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by femu(m): 4:19pm On Dec 16, 2015 |
Great and noble pig farmers. It's time we protect and project our pig farming business in a competitive way. Pork consumption continues to be stigmatised and pig farming is still ignored from many government agricultural intervention programs. For how long we go dey do siddon look. In Accra, Ghana a kilo of liveweight is 12 cedis which is about 600 naira. Even though we had little increment this year, the devaluation of Naira has rubbished the gains. It's time we advocate and increase awareness for pork consumption! effectively tapping into our 200million population can make we Pig farmers overnight billionaires. I have created a Facebook group "Pork Advocates" for us to improve public perception about pigs and pork consumption. Its a group that is welcome to anyone that is sympathetic to Pigs and Pork consumption. The group isn't about Pig production so whatever your practices you are welcome as long as you will project pigs positively. The group will be biased towards pork consumption, processing, preservation and biosecurity If you are a chef or pork eater you are also welcome. Recipes will be showcased. Let's lift ourselves up!!!!!!! join "Pork Advocates" on Facebook. https://www./138998689802089/ 1 Like 1 Share |

femu:at side religious beliefs many do not consume pork due to hygiene issues bt when many saw d neetness of modern pigs rearing they became interested. Even yours truely. |
Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by femu(m): 7:26pm On Dec 18, 2015 |
omode2: If we pig farmers cooperate we can change the narrative. a lot of Arabs eat bacon when they go to England, they love it!!! now 1kg of liveweight =1 USD which is too poor. we need to brand pork positively. Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by ops(m): 9:19pm On Dec 18, 2015 |
@ femu While I'm not against your facebook campaign, I think equating the price of 1kg pork to $1 is a little flawed. I'm not saying the pricing can't be better but you should be looking at the REAL value of the price (N280-N300) as against dollar value; some economists are actually asking for devaluation of the naira which indeed has its advantages (e.g nigerian pork will actually be cheaper in the international market so it can be an export item once safety standards are met). 1 Like |
Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by femu(m): 10:06pm On Dec 18, 2015 |
ops: Our pork is very cheap compared to Ghana sef, in Accra liveweight is 12cedis(600 naira) even though we have maize prices at the same rates with Ghana. Most of the modern production and processing accessories we need in our industry are all imported. At the current rate, how many of us can afford to use Maize, soya and fishmeal which will make pigs grow faster? As a farmer I shouldn't be at a disadvantage profession wise, i should be able to take vacation abroad and train my kids wherever i want. We don't need to export when we have a population of 200m. The best economies in the world thrive because they have a high rate of domestic consumption of their locally produced products. Exporting meat isn't an easy venture because of health standards. Also catfish, chicken and beef all command higher prices than pork in the market. We shouldn't remain at the lower end of the game. Let's join hands!!!! https://www./138998689802089/ 2 Likes |

femu: I agree, we all should be able to afford the good things of life. I only mentioned the export potential as a factor of the exchange rate, I'm fully aware of the stringent export requirements. Anyway, my thoughts are more of economics which isn't the scope of this thread. |

Merry xmas to all farmers in the house. I saw pen around Ifo ogun state with tiles the pigs are very neat and is easy to clean cos of the tiles . I just want to know the advantages and disadvantages cos am about to start my own pen construction. Thanks

Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by femu(m): 10:29am On Dec 25, 2015 |
muyiroro: Nice looking. Eye candy! It's difficult to talk about the advantages or disadvantages of a system without experiencing it. Definitely cleaning will be easier but i would rather use the extra tiling costs to buy more pigs. Aside the costs, won't it be slippery for grown pigs especially when they want to mate? Do they do more of breeding or fattening? A good way to evaluate the system of any farm is no of years they have been operating and years of operating a particular system successfully with good output 4 Likes |
Re: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by muyiroro: 10:51am On Dec 25, 2015 |
Thanks for your contribution. I think they do more of fattening, one of the farmer told me no matter how strong the floor of the pen is pig will dig hole in no time . But with tiles they can't dig any hole on the floor and it last longer than concrete floor. 2 Likes 1 Share |
