AdeLaNa1: Yes, go and check his stats this season. He`s adding nothing to the the team this season. It`s like he`s been one of the problems we have in the team. Teams now know how to deal with his heading threat in the box. As a matter of fact, we`ve only won one game with him in the starting line up in the EPL this season. I`ll suggest we sell him and go and buy Wijnaldum. |

We should have long sealed the game. Two clear chances and some half chances. Smalling had a totally off day. Our defending is horrible. From the midfield to defence, we don't do well to frustrate the opposition from finding spaces to us. We have set of tough matches coming up and I wouldn't like Blind to be the one pairing Smalling. But the is the situation we find ourselves because even if Jones and Rojo become fit today, they wouldn't be at their best. We also need Valencia to return to free Young for the right wing. Martial will need to build on his long distance speed. He has great acceleration over a shirt distance but cannot run with great speed over a long distance. After Fellaini picked a yellow, Mark Dean ensured he didn't award any free kick in favour of Fellaini even when he was fouled. That was frustrating. Memphis has to be thought how to tackle and defend a ball. He offers no protection to his full back. When he appears to mark, he ends up even confusing his full back. Lingard and Fellaini should have sealed it. Fellaini nodded the ball to the goalkeeper even though the goal was wide open before him. He keeps stamping the goalkeeper. We played one of our best games without dominating possession. Van Gaal should learn from that. Sometimes too I ask why our midfielders cannot travel with the ball. When Smalling overlaps, he takes the ball past players with ease into final third. But our midfielders cannot do that. |

tess1: The problem is we had only one defender who could defend aerial threat. We should have at least three. The two centre backs and one full back. It was always hard scoring against us from crossing when we had Brown (RB) and Rio+Vidic. We need to find solution to Blind. I blame Jones and Rojo who keep going on long term injuries. Should we appoint a coach like Mourinho, Blind wouldn't be a central defender. He will be a back up left back. |

We should never have allowed that Newcastle player to get into that good crossing position for the final equalizing goal. We were complacent in the build up to the pass that got him there. At 90th minute, no one gets behind your defence when you are leading. We were even in control having throw in after throw-in on the right wing in their final third. All of a sudden I think we had two vs two on our left full back area and they escaped. Horrible! |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by tess1(m): 12:28am On Jan 13, 2016 |
elampiro: Those midfielders who would`ve travelled with the ball will not try it because of SAFE PASS PHILOSOPHY. They`ll not want to find themselves on the bench in the next match because of not playing to instruction and this is affecting their games. Smalling can afford to do that because he has no competitor in the defence. I`ve seen Smalling loss the ball when taking the ball forward countless of times without him being benched. I don`t know why he didn`t even start Paddy as the right back with Young supporting him and also a threat on that right with Martial on the left. |

tess1:But we didn't play to the philosophy today, Herrera found Martial with some lovely pass, even fellani bad as he was yesternight was vital to lingaard first goal and played rooney through ,but rooney missed it. I put this draw down to Smalling, our best defender playing is first bad game this season. |

Our forward players gave Newcastle defenders space, especially Colocini, to move the ball while they gave us none. I thought LvG was going to solve that in the 2nd half but he resorted to hoofing to Fellaini. We use two makeshift defenders when we've 3 taking home free money while on the sick bed Get in a RW and loan out Lingard, dude is average, while Martial should be on the left or CF. He's less effective on the right. |

chrisley024: I saw that too, and it's not the first time. Rooney was always some yards from Newcastle last men when they had the ball making it easier for them to comfortably start a build up, then I wonder if LVG is now too old to read the game. And whether his assistance have any experience. I don't think I will support Giggs to take over. He should learn from one more experienced coach like Mourinho. That draw was so painful. I am beginning to get nervous on how we will end the season. |

Lingard is not average, he needs to work on his strength, he falls way too easily when wrestled for de ball with an opponent. I think we lost the game due to smalling having a bad game, nd don't 4get dat lastnite was de only time we've played a different system from the possesion based game for almost a year+ lingaard missed a great chance to make it 3-1 but i'm very much convinced that we lost de match due to bad defending. . . . .POSITIVES: though i didn't like de idea of a lower class team lyk newcastle dominating us, i was excited by our attacking play lastnite, herrera was excellent with his forward pass, how i wish martiaL played on de left side, we would've caused NewcastLe more problems. Rooney looked very sharp lastnite, his performance last nite even got me thinking if truly the possession based game was the real reason why he has been poor. And not to 4get DDG is WorLd cLass.. . . .We may forgive L.V.G and his red army if they would send the scoucers to de cleaners next week. Till then #GGMU 1 Like |

SCHOLES BACKS MAN UTD TO MAKE TOP FOUR BUT RULES OUT TITLE WIN "They looked a real threat, there was an intent to score goals. Every fixture feels like a tricky fixture. You're not sure what United you're going to get." "At home they've struggled. The last eight results haven't been good enough. You're playing against a team second bottom here, confidence is really low, and they've not won that game as well. "Is it a team that can go on to win the league? I don't think so. Top four? That's a definite possibility. They should be good enough for top four without a shadow of a doubt." http://m.goal.com/s/en-ng/news/4071/premier-league/2016/01/12/19275482/scholes-backs-man-utd-to-make-top-four-but-rules-out-title |

chrisley024:Martial shouldn't be played as a RW anymore! He's more effective playing as a LW, CF and I believe he wouldn't flop in a 4-4-2 Formation as a supporting Striker! |

Manchester United missed chances to blame for Newcastle loss - Van Gaal PA Sport January 12, 2016 Facebook Twitter . . . .Louis van Gaal insisted Manchester United had only themselves to blame after twice squandering leads to draw 3-3 at struggling Newcastle. The Dutchman saw his side race 2-0 ahead and after being pegged back, go 3-2 up with just 11 minutes remaining before unlikely hero Paul Dummett rescued a point for the Magpies on an eventful evening at St James' Park. Van Gaal, whose side have now slipped to sixth place in the Premier League table after a run of just one victory in eight attempts, said: "I am very disappointed, but we have to blame ourselves because we could have finished this match much earlier. There were big chances for [Jesse] Lingard and [Marouane] Fellaini and we didn't do that. I have said that also to my players. "The referee makes a decision on a penalty that maybe has a big question mark over it, but we could have finished the game by ourselves much earlier. "There was the deflected shot from Dummett to equalise, but okay, that is happening and that is luck for Newcastle United. But you have to force the luck and finish the chances when you get them when they are so big.'' Van Gaal gave credit to Newcastle for their style of play and insisted his team was able to attack more freely than in recent weeks because the Magpies did the same. Van Gaal said: "Newcastle was attacking. They wanted to attack, and that is the difference. I am saying that all the time, but you are doubting my words and my vision. "When you see two teams who want to attack, then you see a game like this. But when you see a match that only one team wants to defend and wastes time and frustrates the opponent...'' Rooney's ninth-minute penalty got United on their way and they looked to be coasting when Jesse Lingard made it 2-0, although Georginio Wijnaldum gave the Magpies hope three minutes before the break. Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled from the spot with 67 minutes gone, but Rooney looked to have won it with a fine 79th-minute strike until defender Dummett lashed home a last-gasp equaliser with the help of a deflection off Chris Smalling. Referee Mike Dean gave two penalties on the night -- one to Manchester United for handball against Chancel Mbemba and the other to Newcastle for Smalling's tussle with Mitrovic -- both of them contested by the respective managers, and might have given at least one more. Van Gaal added: "In my opinion, there is no discussion about the penalties. I have seen the video and you see Mbemba is putting his hand to the ball and that was why Fellaini could not head the ball. He did it with purpose and consciously, so that is a penalty. "The heavyweight wrestling between Mitrovic and Smalling, you can clearly see that he [Mitrovic] is pushing the head of Smalling to the ground. Then it is about heavyweight champions and who is the heavyweight champion at the end of it, and that was Smalling in his eyes. I cannot understand that.' |

“When I sign a contract I will announce it immediately,” he said. “Maybe it will be two years until I will coach a team in England.” With Louis van Gaal‘s contract set to run out in 2017/18, that falls in line with the Man United job. I think we may eventually get Pep as our next Manager. |

elampiro:that was where we lost the game cos it made their defenders to occupy the midfield while their midfielders and forwards overloaded our half. Coloccini was left free to spread passes while Blind that should have done so for us was engaged by their forward. Our lack of a CMF to dictate play also worsened it. |
