sweetgala: 1- Reliability and history so funny. why build a new port if it won't be reliable. 2 - Safety when last did u hear of a kidnapping. don't oil bearing vessel use d same water body.. people also get kidnapped in lagos and south west. 3 - Demand if government remove bureaucracy, and other calculated effort to keep onne dysfunctional. then we can talk about demand.. 1 Like |

chiefobdk: When it comes to business profitability, sentiments are not involved. Money and market talks, bullshit walks. Anybody that goes against the grain is just charitable at best. Government has built and invested in the ports and it's time for the market to create a demand for it's use. All the tribal sentiments is just unnecessary cry 6 Likes |

sweetgala:Sweetgala, I must confess, you are just too intelligent. You correctly highligted the reasons so as to school the uninformed ones. @ realityshot, you guys should clear your heads of this mentality that hausa /fulani and yorubas are your problems and therefore your enemies. Your region is not the only one sidelined in Nigeria. Infact, all regions and the masses are the ones that have been sidelined. I can relate with the security reason highlighted above. let me tell you a personal experience. My company would have loved to commence ferry business that would run through the whole of SS but for the militancy, kidnapping and pirate activities there, they moved the business to Benin and Ghana which will commence in the second quarter of this year. @chiefobdk, if I hear say kidnapping no dey SS again. Also Read the paragraph above Are you to blame? is the SS region to blame? is my company to blame. The answer is NO. It's just unfortunate the way things have turned out in Nigeria May God heal Nigeria 4 Likes |

Every submission on this thread so far has no answer or the hidden truth on this subject. This thread is above Nairaland discussions because of recent invasion of the forum by idle and non-scholarly minded people. There are scholarly and intensive research works already concluded that can give you insight on this subject. Search for them, there are many uncovered facts you will learn and some, you can't bear depending on your orientation. 1 Like |

chiefobdk: Ibo men do a lot of Importing into Nigeria, why have they chosen not to use Onne rather Lagos? They are imprting consumer goods lemme ask you if you are to import consumer goods to sell, would you rather choose a port close to the market SW or just import through a port far away from the market due to sentiments? Ask your importer brothers why they chose Lagos over Onne 3 Likes |

raumdeuter:People aggravate there because it had already being made a commercial center through deliberate, shortsighted and backward leadership of our FG thereby crippling Nigeria's economic potential nearly irreparably. It is not the other way round like you posted. |
Re: Onne Sea Port by raumdeuter: 9:30pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
chiefobdk: So what stops other importers from offloading in Onne. especially Ibo importers Lagos is the center of commerce and the nearby SW states all have a big population to support the import. Most of the imported materials are consumed disproportionally in the SW, be it phones, electronics, vehicles etc next time when you wan import use Onne, Nobody dey hold you 1 Like |

Yanks101: What do you mean by people "aggravate"? Can you just type pidgin Why was your village not chosen to be the capital? Calabar and lokoja too were capitals And FYI lagos has ceased to be Nigeria's capital for almost the past 25yrs. Yet everyone would rather leave there. You too make your own villa the commercial capital. I am sure the most importnat people in your village either do business in Lagos or have something to do with lagos 1 Like |
my question is this.was this so in the 60s? Yes most of trade in Nigeria is focused towards Lagos but has it been always so?people are complaining Lagos is conjested(with dangote refinery and lekki port coming up it would only get worse) but have fg sat down to see how it can lift the burden of the country put on Lagos?
I can't understand why the federal govt both past and present are not reasoning along this line. People have raised some good points why Lagos seaport is the best option for importing goods but if both the state and federal govt are serious about decongesting Lagos state then making the onne seaport more functional will be a good place to start. |

raumdeuter:Sorry, my mistake for thinking you've had a rare moment of sanity. It won't happen again. Btw,Your rebuttal is bullshit and elementary, but then refuting it would be a waste of time. One thing you should know and remember though is that your country would remain the poverty-striken back-water habitat it currently is, with lagos posing as a pseudo-megacity, not even in the class of its african peers. I sure that is all that matters afterall, a one-eyed king in the midst of the blind who is not meant to be king in the first place. 1 Like |

This topic have been discussed severally on this forum, but there r some things I don't get........ 1) R importers asked where they want their containers to b offloaded? 2) If yes, why don't my Igbo friends choose onne instead of Lagos (abi Onne no dey d form)..... Why Im asking z that they offload in Lagos then move t to d S.E for those whose businesses r there which to me z costly... So to my fellow igbos crying "underground masturbation" abi na marginalisation by d Fulanis n Yoruba's, I think we should ask our Igbo brothers why they don't use t instead of coming online to make t seem progress of igbos z tied to other tribes (Abeg no abuse....
