Oil dependency.

Of course....we should blame the last government at all levels for not saving money. But if they had saved, we would still be in the same trobule...because we do not have the dollars to back up our economy.

There is nothing that the current govt can do...except hoard dollars, hope that prices go up....and in the meantime....diversify.

Either way.....the road out of dependency on oil is a long and hard road.I hope Nigeria is willing to take it. And it starts by spending what little money we have on industries and technology.
pls can some turn to his or her neighbour and say 'neighbour have you blamed the past government today?let the blame game kwomtunu

Who are the mad people requesting for devaluation. We have not even devalued and the naira is about to hit the N400 ceiling. Apart from foreign buyers who are desperately calling for devaluation before it would be cheaper to buy our products, any other reason is untenable. We are in a fixed state, a terrible mess and we require an urgent redress of the present situation.

I still insist that the CBN maintains its official rate.
Devaluation would have killed speculation. The reason we are on this mess is cos of speculation. Global slow down is not peculiar to Nigeria but the value of thier mo ey did not depreciate at dame margin.

Do a transaction and find out their rate. wink

Bank rate is always a whole lot cheaper than the black market rate but they don't sell and lots of people want the cash for whatever reason(s), which leads to black market thriving. It's preferable for e-transactions, so he might be very correct.

Keep defending super clueless dull Buhari. One day the spell will wear off.

If GEJ was still in charge....the same thing would have been happening.

And you would be saying....

Anyway....myquestion to you is....what should the government do differently? We no longer have enough dollars to keep the naira afloat because of falling oil prices. What is your solution?

This doesn't make me happy at all. The first thing we should ask ourselves is .....as that GEJ did not save money , what do we do?
When we resolve this , we have a rhythm. We can't keep shouting the fall in oil prices, we are not the only country affected . others are not going down as fast as us.

Re: Naira Falls To N370 Per Dollar by Demdem(m): 12:29pm On Feb 18, 2016
[b]The earlier u all get the gist the better for us all. if u add value to the economy and u really need dollars kindly apply to the banks and if u meet the requirements u will be given at the below rate and u continue to add to the economy.
However if u need dollars for luxuries, goods cbn has stopped funding with dollars, holidays etc u are on ur own. Go look for ur dollar elsewhere
Have we wondered why Nigerian manufacturers (MAN) arent complaining? have u wondered why that tomato selling woman in the market doesnt care or know what u are talking about because they arent affected? its because their business seems to be picking up by Nigerians now looking inwards. its we the elite that are feeling the heat and not the poor.
Gone are the days when we have serious reserves and Govt will continue to gurantee all our frivolities. Now, for frivolities, u are on ur own. The interest of the extremely weak is this govt priority and not the overfed. Many shouting here aimlessly are not even affected in anyway about the rise in the parallel market. Those receiving free dollars before cant and have gone in the parrallel market making it saturated and price high.
When they finally get their dollars at extremely high rate and choose to import, on getting to our borders, they also pay huge tax to the govt so by the time the goods get to the end shop, it becomes ridiculously expensive for the buyer. The question is if the buyer doesnt buy the luxury good, will he die?
I have reasons to import spare parts for my vehicles and to be honest, its ridicously high now. Govt is forcing me to start looking towards Innosun...............for my selfish self, thats not ok but for the overall good, its the best.

Only a Putin-esque leader can save Nigeria.

Buhari isn't the answer cos the Nigerian economy right now looks as messed up Yeltsin's Russia was, before Emperor Putin got to power and saved mother Russia.

Once you look at how the IMF and World Bank destroyed Russia, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, during Yeltsin's era and do a comparative analysis with the utter destruction melted out to the Nigerian economy under Iweala - you'll see a lot of similarities.

Pray for a saviour like Putin! The greatest leader in the modern era.
Re: Naira Falls To N370 Per Dollar by Nobody: 12:35pm On Feb 18, 2016
Free fall! It's heading to #500 before 29th May,2016. No Nigerian leader can solve Nigeria's economic woes. Anyway, the official rate is $1 = #198:50.
