PROBLEMS ASSCIATED WITH COHABITATION. a.k.a "LAGOS MARRIAGE" cohabitation, also known as "Lagos marriage" is a popular slogan used in describing a situation where a man and a woman live together in the same house, some times with children for a good number of years without been legally married, its origin can be traced to lagos, hence, the nomenclature.......the reason usually given for this sham is money, love, foolishness and sometimes not ready age wise or still students. It is also called ,"Abuja or even Warri" marriage due to its prevalence in those locations in Nigeria. Generally, marriages are bound to face challenges because of the differences in gender, background, education, preferences, temperament, and other areas of compatibility: mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, cultural, beliefs among others. which naturally exist between husband and wife. You would still have marital problems if you were married to your clone! But the chances of such challenges can be reduced by deliberately cutting out points of difference which are avoidable if normal process of courtship and marriage is followed. Below is the list of some of the problems, though not without flaws but will serve as a guide to those intending to jump in or the ones already enmeshed in the avoidable situation. LEGAL ISSUES Generally speaking, you will have fewer if not no rights at all if you're living together especially with child(ren) without been married. In some Nigeria cultures like the igbos, you stand the risk of losing all your children to the woman in times of conflicts once u are not legally married to her, when this happens in the man's old age, it becomes disastrous as it will be too late to start afresh... Some times men are forced to fulfill the marriage rites of the partner in case of death of the woman depending on the peoples culture and most women loose out in the man's possession in the case of death and absence of will. YOU MISS BLESSINGS ASSOCIATED WITH MARRIAGE The biblical sayings that a wife brings favour from the Lord is true. My people believe that a man who is not married yet doesn't know his destiny, your destiny becomes established once you start taking responsibilities associated with marriage and child bearing...a good wife is a blessing to the husband.....remember behind every successful man is a wife motivating him..............hmmmmmmmmmm NO RESPECT The funniest part of it is that people around you make mockery of you, many term you people useless and irresponsible......the man in turn sees the woman as a cheap assholes who doesn't deserve respect.~a reason this kind of "marriage" is usually associated with violence, abuse and constitution of nuisance to the society.....most of their child end up been threats to the society. IT EXPOSES ONE TO MANY HEALTH HAZARDS Because of the long period of time and intimacy associated with"lagos marriage" mainly caused by lack of money and planning, high hope and expectations coated by love, the partners involved are exposed to wild sexual escapades without protection and medical examinations, the result is usually transmission of STDs and genotype incompatibility that lead to Sickle Sell children. RISK OF LIVING WITH GHOSTS AND SPIRITS We have seen situations where a woman and man stay together for a long period of time without knowing anything about their background, village and even family....many "myths" including eye witness have it that many have ended up staying with spirits....risk of living with people with generational curses and ailments like epilepsy, madness, barrenness and their likes is also very high. IT LEADS TO INTER TRIBAL MARRIAGE IN MOST CASES. In many african society like Nigeria, people are strongly advised to marry within their tribes, and in a lot of cases, from the same village. The truth is: there are many levels of compatibility for the purpose of marriage and tribe is just one of them.........it improves the bond between the couple, ease of children adaptation to culture, language, food, belief Add your contributions!!!!!
