I think the minister gave an excellent summation of the present economic situation. For news media to extract one sentence and go for overkill is simply mischievous and crappy.

This was an interview where the Minister was specifically asked about the exchange rate situation. He tried to explain the factors that influence the rate making reference to oil price. He simply said the SITUATION (exchange rate) was beyond the president since he does not control oil price. He never said the ECONOMY was beyond the President’s control as misrepresented by the media.

How the media gets away with such mischief is beyond me. Worse still is the fact that 80% of readers do not even notice this distortion of facts. These are people that will later assume leadership positions. With such shallowness among citizens, the future is even more uncertain.

. You are the one that lack simple understanding of English Language. The free fall of naira was due to reduction in foreign earnings through oil price and this is beyond the control of Nigeria government. Pls criticise with sense cos you are not better off
If the free fall of the naira is beyond the government's control then Nigeria is doomed.........

No competent government will allow the value of their currency to go on a free fall beyond their control.

It is disheartening that a particular expression that is a part of a whole is being deliberately twisted and isolated from the whole just to make it take a different meaning and thereby ridicule the individual. The economy being out of control of a sitting government that is only10 month old is preposterous, of course all the gleeful commentators above know that is basically the truth but that does not mean the government will not rein in the economy as soon as possible. We are all in this together if what some people want to engage in is to run this government down, I will let them know that the only gain they'll reap is to remain stagnant whilst the country moves forward. They'll be too preoccupied with their negativity to notice when the country would have left them behind to wallow in their warped prejudices.

I have always said it that most of the current journalists are silly, mischievous and corrupt! Thisday newspaper harbours some of them. If not mischief, what Lai Mohammed said was clear and straightforward. Why twisting a simple explanation. And sad enough, Obiora Ilo repeated the mischief on his program on AIT this afternoon. They are all PDP sympathisers, but they are miserable and silly!!

Seems ure d one with deficient intellect, why on earth will a govt. accept that anything is beyond its control?
If PMB cannot control d exchange rate why then is he pegging it?
D exchange rate is a fundamental part of d economy, govt. policies seek to stabilize, increase or decrease it depending on d motive.
If PMB's policy cannot control d exchange rate is it Iya Basira's policy dat will increase d value of d naira?
I supported PMB's campaign and even spent my personal money to ensure he wins, but lets call a spade a spade.

APC and their lies .

So the free fall of our Naira is beyond their control, yet they keep making several policy somersaults over the same Naira for the past nine months.

Just read Audu Ogbe promising to Stabilize the price of rice come April.
The same Ogbe will soon deny making the same comments.

The situation we find ourselves is really pathetic. The first line in that statement giving credit to the government for surviving the situation clearly nulifies the claim he said "the economy is beyond PMB's control"

The current crop of youths is a bunch of wasted generation.

ShowYourCertificate:
And what makes you so confident that the SITUATION he meant was just that of the exchange rate? It seems you also inherited the lying gift from Lai the Lier.

Read the excerpt again. Lai mentioned the SITUATION that's affecting the free fall of the naira. He talked about balance of trade, export/import, fall in crude price. All these are the SITUATION leading to the free fall of the naira and the poor economy. And he said this is beyond the President's control. The SITUATION here is a totality of the forces affecting the economy not just an aspect of it as you claim.

So you see, you lied just like Lai. And you didn't even lie well. You should have said SITUATION meant fall in crude price rather than exchange rate. How can you say the exchange rate is beyond the control of the president? That means you're suggesting he's incompetent in boosting the value of the naira. Well, I agree with you on that.

Don't mind that one, he's only being mischievous. Lie Mohammed said so many things of which the economy was his major talk point. Afterwards, he made that statement which simply means that he was indeed referring to the economy..
