Excellent posts here and I must say, you guys are really superb, please I want to get some clarification, is PKC same as the palm kernel fiber we get from palm oil extraction? This is because I have a palm oil mill and I want to diversify into piggery, already acquired the land (in Ogun state, very close to Nestle flowergate factory, cos of feed) and am using this platform as my to-do guide.
Please help with what PKC means in layman's term. Plus I will appreciate information on pitfalls to avoid while embarking on this investment.
I will like to inquire about the possibility of having some experience in this before going into it real time, any connection to piggery owners?
Thanks in anticipation.

PKC is Palm kernel cake.

It's a byproduct of Palm Kernel Oil(vegetable oil) extraction not Palm Oil extraction.

There are many pitfalls in agriculture, we learn daily.

I suggest you develop a relationship with an experienced and successful pig farmer

Hello great farmers,I'm new here on nairaland but I've been informed that nairaland is like a family, where matters affecting a member is taken seriously .
I'm a farmer myself though I'm yet to start practicing due to unavailability of funds. All the same I hope to do that one day. But for now I want to work.

I have a Bsc in Agricultural Extension, most importantly I love agriculture either Livestock or crop farming.
I'm looking for job and I'm hoping someone will have one for me.

I have some experience working and caring for livestock and my duties included cleaning stalls, feeding and
checking the health of the animals. I am physically fit and
able to handle the duties associated with this job and to work long hours in all types of weather. I have excellent
verbal and written skills with the ability to follow instructions and I am dependable, trustworthy and self motivated.
Thanks for you consideration. I can be reached on this Number 08065061035 and tru this Email nwachukwutochi1015@yahoo.com.

Huuuumm. Man where did u come from? Heaven I must guess. This is a business I pumped millions into 3 / 4 yrs ago. Was really passionate abt it cos was my late grandma trade which became the whole family bread and butter, so I was highly charged and passionate about it.
Tot I cldnt get it wrong, but running the business all the way from u.k was my on doing . the months I spent in Nija highlighted problems of the industry to me.
Fact is it is one trade u invest 3x to get 2x.
Market / marketing was very thin. Etc.etc.
Maybe one day I will reconsider my view but not @ the mo.
hi, about what you write u must have gotten it wrong some where been ur grandma trade these not mean you av de practical experience which makes u loose such amount of money i know a lot of people who start with money that is not up to hundred thousand apart from the pig house n today de av make it big with thru piggry alone so try to find where u got it wrong and make corrections cause is a good biz. Thank you bro

All things being equal (good breed, good feeding and good management) after purchasing a weaner (7-10kg), From experience how long would it take to attain 80kg live weight. Just a rough estimate.

Thanks

I intend to go into fattening only. No time for production

Spent grain is included in their feed composition.

spent grain isn't necessarily good feed so it can influence your performance.

Here are some of my farrowing pigs sucking on the water ni.pples.

Piggery can command even more revenue if you combine it with fishery. On my farm, we use our pig manure for growing maggots which we feed to our catfish. It saves on cost of fish feed and promotes quicker growth of our catfish. One pig's manure can produce up to 20kg of catfish per annum.
