Fuel Price Hike: Nlc Insist On Reversal by saintmark88(m): 6:55am On May 17, 2016
THE Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC, and its affiliate body, Trade Union Congress,TUC, yesterday, vowed to press ahead with its industrial action scheduled to commence tomorrow if the Federal Government failed to revert to old pump price of petrol.

This came as the House of Representatives started its special plenary on fuel price hike on a rowdy note.

ROWDY SESSION: House of Representatives in a rowdy session over hike in fuel price, at the National Assembly, Abuja, yesterday. Also, labour leaders and others met with the leadership of Department of State Service, DSS, and Nigeria Police Force, NPF, over the security implications of the planned industrial action billed to start tomorrow. NLC and TUC also asked the government to not only put all the nation’s refineries to optimal use, but also increase minimum wage, besides putting all necessary palliatives measures before deregulation of oil. Leaders of NLC and TUC spoke formal commencement of the meeting it held with the government over May 11 increment of fuel price. But the government pleaded with the labour organisations to see reasons with its action and shelve its planned strike, saying it was open to dialogue with the bodies.

This was even as the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, who was at the meeting to mediate between labour, said opposed agitation for wage increment, saying it was not sustainable at the moment. Factional NLC president, Ayuba Wabba and President of TUC, Bobboi Kaigama, said there was the need for government to reverse to old pump price of fuel, given that the development was having a toll on the masses. At the time of this report, both government and labour had not shifted. Dr Chris Ngige, who presented government’s position, said the government was opened to dialogue, urging the labour leaders to consider the proposed industrial action as the least possible option. Among those that were at the meeting included factional President of NLC, ,Ayuba Wabba and ,Joe Ajaero, General Secretary of NLC, Dr. ,Peter Ozo-Eson, NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, PENGASSAN President, Francis Olabode Johnson, President of TUC, Bobboi Kaigma, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Minister of Labour & Employment ,Dr Chris Ngige, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate),Senator Ita Enang, Secretary Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr. Babachir Lawal. Others were Ministers of State, Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu, of f Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, Information and Culture,,Lai Mohammed and Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi. At the meeting were the Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, Minister of State, Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu, Ministers of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi. Before the meeting dissolved into a technical session, newsmen were asked to leave.

Kindly inform FG they have 24 hrs to heed to the request of Labour of 90,000 naira min wage and reverse to the old pump price otherwise Nigeria will be on strike till their useless One year in office.

Very painful that a junior minster can wake up and announce a fuel pump price while the Min of Petroleum is away.

Who wouldn't want want better things? The subsidy removal is wrong timing, increase workers salary, then you can talk of increase of fuel pump price, they are taking us for granted.

PMB and his team just show us Indirect way of devaluing of Naira.

When GEJ did same in 2012, the likes of Tinibu, Rufai, Fashola, Bakare protested, Oooh they now realize GEJ was on the right track?

APC must apologize to GEJ and his team.

I blame NLC coz this rubbish started with increase in electricity tarrif and they didn't do anything, at a time I was thinking NLC and TUC was APC.

I sometimes wonder if both parties (govt & labour) think of their actions at all.
On the part of govt, before you increase the price of fuel, you put in place enough palliatives to cushion the economic effect. Just yesterday, govt was proposing 5k for 1 million Nigerians every month. That move alone is enough to anger any right thinking Nigerian. Y not divert that money into making the refineries working well or at least making power stable so that if they stop subsidy, nobody will even complain.

Anybody or group that are against NLC, NTU or the masses need brain transplant. APC government just shift the burden of fuel subsidy to the masses . Some time i believe they are in government to make unfavourable policies that affect the masses negatively . Just compare the standards of living in the government to previous one .

Dis FG is not serious. U increased electricity tariff yet there was no plan on ground to guarantee atleast 12hrs of electricity supply. The masses paid for it n yet no light now its Fuel, my question is dis, what plan(s) is(are) put on ground to alleviate d suffering of d masses. I remember during GEJ tenure there was SURE-P n like it or not it did help d masses esp in the transport sector

From some people's comment, you can easily know those are who are shouldering responsibility and those eating from dem mama pot. This isn't a matter of anti any party. It's a matter of common sense and the current pains.
