I can tell you authoritatively that for every little thing you want to do "Abroad", you have to be certified!
Even ordinary street cleaner has to do some "Safe Pass" or Training and get issued with a certificate of "training completion", before he or she can sweep that street.
Ditto for al menial jobs, like window-cleaning, Security-Gate-man, bus driver, e.t.c

You wont even get the opportunity (They wont even consider you) to show-case how good you are at "laying blocks" if you dont have a Builder's certificate and training.
First, they would ask to see your "Certificate",ONLY after which ......you can now prove your COMPETENCY in the "practicals"

Sebi you said you can drive \construction equipment, right? Did you go for any "formal training" that involves Pen and Paper? Do you have a Certificate to brandish for such training?
If not, be you the best operator in the world, you cant even go near a Construction equipment in the "Oyinbo Kontiri".

Its only in Africa, especially in Nigeria that "Artisans' compare themselves with trained and well-educated Professional!

people will come here and start blaming engineers for the defect on their building projects,forgetting the fact that clients might be the cause often time, a situation where by the engineer advice the client to do soil test ,structural design etc and he start grunting my great grandfather built a mansion in 1942 and he didn't do common architectural design. when the building now start sinking ,he will run to nairaland properties police station to report the engineer.
