Lagos Light Rail Line is too costly compare to a similar project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia . Please see below : Addis Ababa Light Rail Project,Span : 34Km. Cost : $475m number of Stations : 39 Project Tenure : 2011 - 2015 Status : The project is already completed and running effectively . Lagos Light Rail project Span : 27km Cost : $1.2Bn number of Stations : 13 project Tenure : 2010 till date Status : not completed Is the new 4th mainland bridge worth the cost? 45 Likes 4 Shares |

Haba na. Dont be naive. You cant compare the two. They did not include Omo onile and Akiolu in the budget for Ethiopia's light rail na. That can add quite a lot to the budget. Nigeria is known to use better quality materials for construction. This is evident in our hospitals, schools and world class roads. 27km in Nigeria is quite longer than 34 in Ethiopia. Basis for measurement is different. Chief Amaechi himself will corner some of the money.Na where person dey work, hin dey chop. 218 Likes 21 Shares |

Possible thing that can change the cost of such project significantly is the terrain. Lagos is a swampy area and any construction project is likely to cost more than conventional. Also the population that will use it determines the quality of things or will you want to waste millions for it to fail so soon? 37 Likes 4 Shares |

Ethiopia's rail project is just a rail project Lagos state metro includes 27km metro rail with multiple lines 54 km 10 lane expressway BRT access Stations Overhead bridges Rail bridge across the Lagos Lagoon Power station Get your facts straight... 165 Likes 10 Shares |

Because the terrain is different, the project is different .e.t.c. There are so many variables to the project that makes comparing the cost based on length stupid. Would it cost the same to build a house in Ethiopia? 11 Likes |

The Lagos light rail is elevated for most parts since it runs on swampy land and it's also a 2 way rail. You'll have to calculate the cost of the pilings, the concrete footings and it's larger size to accommodate the 2 trains at the same time. It also crosses a water body and it's complete with a super highway that runs alongside it with pedestrian bridges linking the train stations which are also elevated. The Ethiopian Lightrail runs on land and is a normal railway line with stops alongside it. Their specifications and topography are miles apart, hence the cost difference. Since it's Nigeria, some inflation will be included but it's not as much as some people are trying to project.................. and which one is their own Governor doing in their own state in the first place? 57 Likes 4 Shares |

Cost of a road project in Kaduna or Ebonyi would be way cheaper than Yenagoa for instance. Same distance, different terrain 14 Likes 2 Shares |

First. Check the shipping cost to Ethiopia and to Nigeria. Second, how many of those parts will Ethiopia be manufacturing on their own and how many wld Nigeria ever manufacture? Lastly, importation of experts. This is neglecting corruption in the whole equation 6 Likes 1 Share |

ba7man: Bro, it has exactly the same specifications. It passes through a place they call Ayat village (mainly waterlogged) etc. Lagos rail is the photocopy of Ethiopians metro rail. Kindly find out before you comment. Talking about piling in this context is laughable 7 Likes |

This has already been approved by the legislature so I think its too late to complain. But that said, I dont think all projects are supposed to cost the same. Its a different terrain, different contractor, different cost of building materials and cost of transporting same etc 2 Likes |

Inflation is definitely one part... Terrain is another.. The fact that two nations both have the same KM of railway does not mean they would both cost the same. The bulk of the Lagos rail programme is running over head. Ethiopia during the planning of Addis Ababa may have factored in a rail road and created the access for it, In Lagos State, they obvioucly didnt and thus have to find a way to fit one in and that alone will affect the pricing. Funding also matters.. How a project is funded also affects the cost of the Project. I also heard that the Lagos rail project will have a dedicated power station to power all the lines. I don't know about Ethiopia's. Basically, we will have to look at the scope and financing of both projects holistically to get a clearer picture to see what the similarities, differences, financing and other issues are between both projects to better answer your question. This is a picture of the Ethiopian rail line.. This is a picture of Lagos Light rail..
