You don't need English test for assessment with VETASSES. There's nothing he is not telling you. He already did his assessment.

40manlappy,
I am not an accountant.

Oga bellong, I know you are not an accountant cheesy

I just felt that as the initiator of the thread, you might have come across the question and it's answer OR a member who can address it.

I am gradually gathering relevant information though.

Hello house I got my invite some days back.
I got NSW 190 last Friday but as God would have it,I was invited for 189 last Tuesday. grin
So hubby and I picked 189. wink
We have since lodged our application for a family of four.

All documents uploaded apart from form 80 and 1221.
Medicals are on Monday at Fatai Williams and they told us it's going to cost over 180k(they have increased prices they said).
Skill is external auditor with 70 points.
Took us over 5months to get the invite but all the same Na GODWIN tongue

Thanks to all the gurus for the good work you are all doing. Special gbosa to oga Bellong for the thread. I have studied from page one but I have some issues I will need help with.

@Tyosho… Congrats on your progress thus far. I will appreciate your input and guidance on this as I know you are an accountant.
My wife is a chartered accountant and will be primary applicant as I believe she has a better chance than I. She is nursing presently so I’ll have to do lots of the legwork.

She turns 32 years tomorrow.
Graduated first class B.sc Accounting in 2004.
ICAN Chartered also in 2004.

She has about 10 years working experience post NYSC as an auditor with a major auditing firm and presently financial analyst / accountant with an investment bank. We plan to nominate either external auditor or management accountant on subclass 189 and 190.

The issues I need some clarification on are

1. She just became a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) this august and we are thinking of including it as part of her qualifications but I don’t know if it will affect her years of working experience.

2. Her international passports and all her qualifications are in her maiden name (including her recent CFA as you need international passport for identification). We could not comprehend the stress of going to Abuja to do that. As she will be including me and our three children in her application, how will this affect us and what should be done? She is not due for a passport renewal till July 2017.

I will also appreciate the contributions of other gurus too.
Thanks

I actually have forgotten the body someone recommended the last time. I remember one of the accountants mentioned something about having ICAN to get a positive assessment with CPA I guess. The other two don't ask.

I hope the accountants can come to your rescue.

@TRAV,

Happy birthday to your wife. May she live her life to the fullest and to the glory of God.

1. Don't worry about adding the CFA qualification, her accounting degree and ICAN are enough. Study the job descriptions of both external auditor and management accountant, then choose any that aligns more with her experience.
Yes, her CFA will be an advantage to get something good when she lands.

2. As long as you have marriage certificate and pictorial evidence of your marriage, it will not affect you. My wife used her maiden name during my application too. They know some don't change surname after marriage.

You can start the process ASAP because the accountants occupation get filled very fast.

What is your own occupation?

Good day mates,

I recently got a negative assessment from VETASSESS for Internal Auditor and would require advice from the house. Just a little background about my profile, I have a bachelors degree in Economics in 2005 from LASU and also a chartered accountant (2008). I have about eight years in Internal Audit experience in a Nigerian Bank. The reasons for the negative assessment are:

1. That my first degree obtained from LASU is equivalent to AQF Associate Degree and not Bachelors Degree.

2. That my first degree in Economics is not highly relevant to the field of Internal Audit.

3. That my ICAN certificate obtained in 2008 is not taken into consideration because its not recognized by the Nigerian Board of Technical Education (NBTE) or the Country Education Profile (CEP) in Australia.

Based on little research that I have done, there was no way NBTE would have contained ICAN or regulate ICAN. ICAN was established by the act in 1965 while NBTE was only established in 1975. Also, Economics not being related to internal audit is arguable by the standards issues by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

I have the option of assessing with other bodies like CPA/IPA/ICA not as internal auditor but accountant. The problem is, i might not be able get points for work experience because of my role as an internal auditor.

Your views please?

Sorry Bro, but I just want to use your issue as an advice to anyone using VETASSESS, try and use the advisory service first, if you do that you will know if your qualifications and work experience are relevant to the occupation you have chosen (I stand to be corrected). I have currently applied for the advisory service, it cost me about 40k. I think it is better to pay for advisory and be told that your qualifications do no match your occupation, then you can look for another occupation, than to pay almost 250k for assessment and wait for some months only to get a negative assessment. These are my thoughts, just what I think, I may be wrong. angiesteve someone i know who studied economics and is chartered (ICAN) but works with a BIG4 assessed using CPA as an accountant and is currently in Australia. In-fact he started the whole process in October last year and by January, he had gotten papers, but it was state nomination.

Angiesteve,

VETASSES is not a too good assessing authority. They are like robots there, everything must be black and white..

Unfortunately, you will have to go with any of the accounting assessing body. You can always make your experience relate with that of an accountant.
