Wingback: Keep quiet, bailly only found out yesterday the deficiencies of his partner. He can play the ball out of the defence but can he really defend. Dude was practically playing 5 and 6. Smalling will still make a better partner to this guy. We will see with games to come when and if they both get paired. Bailly is a beast and he showed his class in the second half. So keep quiet and stop talking like we lost 10-1 6 Likes |

eph12:you still need the right personnel to play this style.or whatever style the coach wants. seeing the game now, am happy Jose took the blame for the loss, because he cost us yesterday's game, and I may have underestimated this city squad a little, taking nothing away from Pep,he coached his team well. even the 2nd half you guys said was an improvement on our performance falls below what we should expect. anyhow make my ninja,Depay see minutes for the Europa. |

To be fair to Mourinho, he got some of his tactic spot on. For example, stifling David Silva's play because I don't want to think of what could have happened if Silva hadn't been man-marked by Fellaini, it would have be brutal. Even then, he still looked class and was several miles better than Pogba. However, this allowed Debruyne a lot of space to operate because he remained unchecked apart from the few times he tussled with Felliani and despite Silva's play being stifled, he carved out lot of space for Debruyne to exploit unchecked. I don't know if Mourinho put Pogba on Debruyne but he failed to do that. Our plan was to sit back, stifle their play and hit them on the counter but our play were so poor in the midfield because Fellaini could only concentrate on D. Silva while his partner, Pogba looked clueless and Rooney couldn't operate under City's pressure whenever he got the ball in the final third.. The shift to a 3-man midfield made us a lot compact in the middle and brought us closer to our attackers who were mostly isolated in the 1st half and had no option other than dropping deep which invited more pressure and lot of possession lost in the 1st half.. But our change in the 2nd half didn't last long because City regained their foothold in the middle once again by intensifying the pressure in the midfield with the addition Fernando to help out Silva and Fernandinho in their pressing game while pushing up Debruyne who contributed little defensive work in the midfield. This reduced the workload of Silva and gave him lot of freedom to move around to escape any man-marking and City looked strong once again.. Once we lost our foothold in the midfield again, we had no option than to resort to hoofing the ball into their box to force out error from Stones and Bravo in the last 25 minutes of the game... All these point to one thing, the battle was lost in the midfield and it was due to a certain little magician, Silva in there while our own Pogba was ambling around looking clueless. It also shows that Pep is a master tactician, miles better than Mourinho.. He was lucky to have find a kindred soul in Silva at City, even though he was the one that revamped Silva's game. |

elampiro: You and Diademk07 should read the full editorial I dropped below. It reaffirmed my earlier opinion that Mourinho is wasting Pogba's ability playing him alongside Fellani in the DM position. But the particular point I want you two to note is the quoted part. When I typed yesterday that Rooney was occupying the position of Mhiki, Mata and Co, it looked like I was hating. It turns out I was not only right, but even Pogba is another victim of Rooney's must-play syndrome. Thank God say no be me write the article. Read. . . The article is talking about Pogba. In that position - roughly the one Rooney is occupying for United for comparison’s sake - he was full of goals, he created chances and he could express himself with the ball at his feet. http://m.goal.com/s/en/news/14302/comment/2016/09/11/27391872/mourinho-role-not-letting-pogba-reach-his-potential Like I said, how Mourinho handles Rooney's conundrum will determine if he'll be successful or not, or if he'll get sacked. |

Funlordjnr: Stop telling lies. I am looking at stats tight now. I will like to tell me how Rooney lost possession 23 times other than the crosses, free kicks and corners that didn't connect. Rooney only misplaced 6 passes and was Dispossessed 3 times. He didn't attempt any dribble. You no know ball. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Diademk07: 4:17pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
eph12: Pep got the best out of him putting him in the Central midfield. That's exactly the place that suits him. His movement, spatial awareness, one-two touch play, vision and technical skills makes his playmaking look effortless and the midfield his home unlike a certain Pogba who hogs the ball, lack spatial awareness, amble around and positionally less disciplined. As for Pep, many could have looked clueless as soon as Mourinho ringed those changes in the second half but he countered it immediately with his own master class. |

Diademk07:Bringing in someone to tighten the defence and/or midfield to protect a lead? Oh puhlease! That is what Mou is known for. Coaches do that all the time unless they have exhausted all their options. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 4:29pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
sinizia: So Rooney is now the one preventing Pogba from playing number 10? When I said in the summer that Rooney was adapting well into a central midfielder, you people attacked me that we needed a world class central midfielder like Pogba. Now we have Pogba in central midfield, you want him in the number 10. Pogba is first a CM before an AM. He even played DM for France. Una too dey get sleepless nights over Rooney. If Rooney is on the bench, you people will still blame him for losing us games from the bench. Ukwu!!! |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Diademk07: 4:37pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
sinizia: It was the other way round though.. Pogba cluelessness in the midfield and too much hugging of the ball stifled Rooney's performance. Look at a certain D. Silva who constantly freed up Debruyne with his fluid passing move in spite of a certain Felliani chasing him around.. Silva's movement and positioning also got him a lot on the ball.. No doubt, Debruyne is miles better than Rooney in the same role but he wouldn't have looked as good if David Silva played like Pogba yesterday because Debryune is a player who needs a lot of space to operate, just like Rooney. The more reason why Pep said he's better suited to the wing which is likely going to happen once Gundogan becomes fit. Don't forget Pogba still looked clueless in the midfield after Rooney was shifted to the wing in the second half. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Diademk07: 4:46pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
eph12: Debruyne isn't a CM but a no 10 to begin with.. The fact that he played him there shows that Pep is no negative coach.. However, Silva suffered a lot from this because he had to be positionally disciplined and offer more defensively until Fernando came on to replace Fernandinho in the holding role while Fernandinho got pushed up to play alongside Silva and this helped to reduce the workload of Silva . After our first 15-20mins pressure in the second half., City still settled back to look as good as they were in first half. They could have even scored more in the second half with the likes of Debruyne, Silva etc wasting some good chances Hence, I disagree that they were defending a lead. |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:25pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
Diademk07:City were very disciplined and that was a major plus for them. United were frustrated already after that 15-20 minutes. Most players were playing far from our goal in search of an equaliser and were required to track back. That could be exhausting. See Pep is a brilliant coach I mentioned that already. Same is Jose. I am not going to continue this back and forth with you. I don't need you to agree with me that they are both good. |
