Would it not have been better for you to reduce the tax and NCC Charges being paid by the smaller players, rather than increasing the tariff ordinary Nigerians, that are already over burdened by the recession, are paying.

The NCC needs to understand the dynamics of the market. They need to understand why Glo's price is terribly low as do MTN. These guys operate their own undersea fibre optics cable to Europe. They don't pay locally to get bulk data for retail purpose. The others need to hence the additional price margin.

If they wanted to help the new entrants, then they would have specifically not licensed those undersea cables to existing telcos. Actually its wrong for both seller and buyer to be competing on the same market but then the government agencies are the worst culprits check out NIBSS competing with her customers, NNPC competing with other independent marketers. Its crazy!

I believe they do just understand it when the late Steve Jobs said "stay hungry .....stay foolish ....they government are taking it literarily to mean ...make the people hungry (high cost of living) and make them stay foolish (high cost of data to educate self on the Internet). God pass dem all!

Frankly, ever since the social media bill fail to become law. This government has been looking for ways to curb the masses from gaining access to information.

The internet has shown that it's a powerful and potent weapon to be used against the massive high-handedness of this government.

This government is very aware that the masses are becoming very aware of their ineptitude and totally lack of concern about the well being of the masses, so the only way they can subdue such awareness, is to curb the masses access to information, and that is by increasing the price of data.

Do not be fooled. This government, the past government and every past nigerian government doesn't give a damn about me and you, they only give a damn about their pocket, and see the masses as a means to an end. Nothing more, nothing less.

This govt is clearly against the youth knowing fully well that 95% of internet users are youths. No two ways about it. The youth are the future of this country and their creativity should not be stiffled but on the contrary subsidised. Now it will be more expensive for final year students to get their research materials from the net. This government is taking us backward when youths in other places are contributing to their societies thru the internet.

peoples welfare should be the priority of any government not the protection of few companies with less than 7000 staffs. If they can't compete, govt should bail them out. Some of them have been existing for years. They aren't ready to expand their market & their service is too expensive.

In the short term the prices will go up driving customers to the small/new operators who are largely Nigerian owned. Over the long term prices will fall as the size of small operators networks grow and economies of scale kick in.

If the large operators break the small operators they will still raise prices but in such an eventuality, there will be no small operators to provide an alternative.

The large operators remit far more of their revenue as a proportion of gross sales than small companies leading to spikes in dollar demand that impact the average Nigerian. Increasing the size of the small operator market will conserve valuable fx.

I am aware that MTN and other large Telcom trolls are on this thread. Please don't expect me to reply your mentions. Unlike you I have no network to fleece - so gotta work.

Rather Than Telling Them To Bring The Price to the lowest possible, you forcing them to increase, so they can continue to to stay in Business and Milk Us Dry Abi, Business Continuity Is The Job Of Their MD and Staff not NCC. The Market Is Very Competitive, Step Up Or Fall Out. So If Glo or Anyother Networks Starts Doing Free Data For Customers, Then Go Talk Say Make Shut Down.

So let me understand Dis article....glo nigeria and oda older mobile networks like Airtel and mtn reduced deir prices thereby forcing oda smaller mobile companies to reduce deir own prices...
ncc re-introduced "floor pricing" just 2 punish glo nigeria and older network companies 4 muscling d market from dese smaller companies...
This forces glo and oda companies 2 increase deir data price in order to give oda companies a "level playing ground".....and who suffers from all dese obvious power tussles? yeah U guessed right....the consumers,d subscribers, Nigeria citizens......
