Laikipia Air Base Takes The 36th Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championship

Cabinet Secretary for Defence Ambassador Raychelle Omamo and Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe on Friday 20th January 2017 presided over the 36th Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championship and the 15 km road race which took place at Engineers Brigade Hqs, Thika Barracks.
There were three events that took place during the Championship. These were 15 km road race, 10 km men and women and 4×2 relay matches.
In the 15 km road race men, Senior Private (Spte) Victor Kiplimo from Laikipia Air Base won the race in 42:27:02. Gunner Alfred Koech from Embakasi and Eliud Weru from Laikipia Air Base took position 2 and 3 in 42:32:66 and 42:35:52 respectively.
Civilian Pauline Esikon from Mtongwe, Hellen Mugo from Moi Air Base and Spte Nyamu Evelyn also from Moi Air Base took number one, two and three in the 15 kilometers women road race, where they recorded 49:40:75, 52:06:02 and 53:55:57 respectively.
In the 10 Km Women’s race, Cpl Hellen Obiri from Laikipia Air Base won the race in 32:49:08, beating the Rio Olympics Marathon winner Jemimah Sumgong who came in at number two with a time record of 33:16:09. Spte Joslyine Jepkosgei came in at number three with a time record of 63:29:08.
In a highly contested 4×2 men and women relay race, Kahawa Garrison took number one while Lanet and Laikipia Air Base came in at number two.
The overall champions in the Championship were Laikipia Air Base. Lanet came in at number two while Marsabit took number three. Kahawa, Moi Air Base, Thika Barracks, Embakasi Garrison, Mtongwe, Nanyuki, Isiolo, Nairobi and Gilgil came in that order.
Speaking during the event Cabinet Secretary Ambasador Raychelle Omamo said,
“I am delighted to preside over this well-organized 36th edition of KDF’s Cross Country Championship. This event prepares our athletes for the National Cross Country Team finals scheduled for the 18th of February, 2017. I am optimistic that many of the athletes present here today will perform well and therefore be selected to represent Kenya at the 43rd World Cross Country Championship which will take place in Kampala, Uganda on the 26th of March, 2017.
As you participate in training and competition, I implore you to always engage in sound and ethical conduct, to eschew doping and other bad practices, and to always demonstrate fair play and respect for others. This is what we would expect from a KDF athlete. You must be ambassadors of excellence and integrity in the sports arena and also promote friendship and peace in your sporting endeavours. In this regard, I am proud of the successes and respect that KDF has garnered at the EAC Military Sports and Cultural events and also at the World Military games.
Also present at the event, were Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe, Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Joseph Kasaon, Services Commanders, Chairman Defence Forces Sports Control Board, Major General S W Nandwa, among others.

Take drought for example: good/clever farmers are often in a better position than others during a time of crisis. Hence can sell their wares at higher prices (decrease in supply, increase in demand), thus they generate more capital. Because the drought has slaughtered the competition, and killed people themselves you now have an increased supply of land and a decreased demand to occupy it. Hence these surviving farmers are able to use the capital they generated earlier to buy the land of the farmers who have failed... expanding their operation, increasing their output and thus the cycle starts over - they generate more capital and use the capital to aquire more land to generate more capital. In a couple generations large scale commercial farms (though lacking sophistication) begin to arise.

Food aid destroys this natural cycle.
