You are dismissing Adi because he is 26 and does not have a superior goals tally compared to Ideye? So what is your yardstick for picking our number 9 is my question. What should they bring to the table? And when does the said player deserve the chance besides current form and ability to score consistently? What's your yardstick really, considering this field position in question? And nobody said Ideye was better. my point is you will never know if Adi can score unless you cap him PERIOD. The fact is Ideye has not delivered for SE in that department. we need a poacher.. I don't care how he puts the ball in the net.. Adi seems like he could be a good support striker as well. edi287: 2 Likes |

tbaba1234: Among these once you have mentioned, which of them can play the CF role. If am not mistaken, Osimhen is a CF. Why not suggest people who can play similar role? |

tbaba1234:Adi, Kayode, Odey hmmmmmmmmn Kayode plays in a more competitive League plus Europa. So he stands a chance more than Adi. I like Adi because he has got the height, body that can't easily be out muscled by very physical defenders but he does not seem to provide a long term solution to our goal drought forwards. Stephen Odey is very young and I can agree with his age. He deserves to be integrated into the team for the long term project. So if I were the Coach, I would rather go with Kelechi, Kayode and Odey. |

Orkpekyandega: I like Kayode too.. Unfortunately, I can't watch Nigerian League right now but I remember the hype surrounding Christian Pyagbara. He ended up being very very average if not clearly poor. |

tbaba1234:I have nothing against Osimhen, his quality is not in doubt, if he is fit and playing regularly like Odey. But for now we should consider those who are fit, which in my opinion I chose Odey. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by semid4lyfe(m): 3:07pm On Mar 08, 2017 |
Stephen Odey was 16 years old when he played and emerged as the the highest goal scorer in the 2012 GTBank Principal's Cup. Then he was in SS3 and represented Diary Farms Secondary School, Agege, Lagos State. Granted he's young but surely he can't be 19 as being bandied by the Nigerian Press. 1 Like |

tbaba1234:The problem with the NPFL is more of institutional than lack or potential. If players like Kelechi, Osimhen, etc did not travel abroad. No body would have believed they are this good. That means the developmental aspect of our Club is in question. |

semid4lyfe: So he is 20/21... Still relatively young. |

tbaba1234:I don't like this damning verdict. So because Gambo Mohamed, Obaje and Salami failed trials in your opinion, Stephen Odeh shouldn't get a look in. This is a bad way to judge two variables that are not the same. If that be the case, we might as well dissolve the Nigerian league. This is exactly the kind of mentality that stagnated oue football in the mid 2000's. The then national team managers preferred inviting every Tom Dck and Harry playing football in Europe to the detriment of some homebased players who could have brought more to the table. I can't get my head round a player like AyodeleMakinwa getting invites while obviously better talented strikers like Victor Ezeji and Kelechi Osunwa were ignored. These two guys are 10X better than Makinwa in my opinion. An inform and youthful Okey Odita was neglected while Abbey George who played non league football was picked. How about Onyekachi Okonkwo? Guys like Ifeanyi Ekwueme, Ikpe Ekong, Seyi Olofinjana and the rest of them who served up dross were chosen ahead of him. Not because they were better but because they were playing in Europe. Talents should be assessed based on ability not their base. I stand down. 7 Likes |

goldfish80: 1. I am not advocating for non league players for the Super Eagles, It is the same criticism, I have over the quality of the league. A player who plays at a low level for a long time, does not improve no matter how talented they are. It is not about lack of talent. The best players do not spend 5 years in the Nigerian League. 2. In the last few years, we have experimented with a local league quota for the Super Eagles? What is the value added from these players? We can probably pick just one, Sunday MBA after several years of giving home based players national team quota. Where is MBA playing these days? 3. I am all for good young local league players like Nwobodo but let us get the best, play CHAN and pick the ones with potential. Kunle Odunlami and Ejike Uzoenyi flattered to deceive at CHAN but could not cut it at national team level. 4. Makinwa was never a regular for Nigeria and neither would Ezeji or Osunwa have been. Seyi Olofinjana played a different role to onyekachi. I think, at the time Seyi merited his call-up. Okonkwo would not have made the team in his position. |

tbaba1234:yeah my thoughts too even the young players we are talking about... are they truly young? should we be sincere to ourselves we know the truth... well let's leave that for another day. they should grab the CHAN opportunity to showcase what they can offer... my problem with this home based lads is always using one or two caps they get playing for super eagles as an gateway to get deals to obscure leagues abroad...like keshi, oliseh boys frm the domestic league... I doubt their passion to wear the national team shirt if not for their selfish motive.. them and their Godfathers ever willing to milk honey from their deals 2 Likes |

NPFL stars not ready for Eagles, says Okunnowo Former Super Eagles’ and FC Barcelona right wing-back, Gbenga Okunnowo, has said that Nigeria Professional Football League stars cannot readily fit into the senior national team unless they improve on their performances. The former defender, who played for Shooting Stars FC in the past before joining Spanish giants FC Barcelona, opines that players in the NPFL need to work their way into the team, while insisting that the level they currently are is not suited for the Super Eagles. “I have seen a couple of games in the NPFL this season and to be candid, I don’t think the quality is up to what is obtainable in the national team. Many people have different opinions though on the need to push and encourage these players, but I think they are not ready yet. May be one or two look set, but they’ll need to work very hard to make it in and then become regulars,” said Okunnowo. Despite impressive performances by some NPFL players in the 11-week-old league, Super Eagles German tactician, Gernot Rohr looked away and did not extend invitations to any of the locally-based players for the friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso later this month. http://aoifootball.com/2017/03/08/npfl-stars-not-ready-for-eagles-says-okunnowo/ |

goldfish80: I'm not really sure of the Onyekachi Okonkwo u are referring to but if it was the one that played for Enyimba b4 lacing his boots for Orlando Pirates of South Africa, then I want to inform u that he played for Nigeria btw 2006 - 2008 raking in 20 appearances in the process. Well, it appears that his tym with the Super Eagles was so uneventful that you didn't know he ever put on the Green jersey of our dear country. Mutiu Adegoke also got his chance if my memory serves me right though not lucky sha with just 3 apps. For me, I support what Gernot Rohr nd Yusuf are doing as long as Eagles are doing well. Though a fan of d Npfl, these home based pros need to be more consistent. For example, Godwin Obaje who was blazing last season is way down on d goal chart. The tales ofMfon Udoh,Jude Aneke etc is also saddening to say d least. I'm sure d likes of Aguero et al didn't get to d top dat way. Let these boys grow up frm being a "one season wonder " nd not b distracted by moves to obscure leagues abroad. I'm waiting for CHAN to assess them well but once again, consistency is d watch word guys Up Super Eagles!!! 1 Like |

Icon4s: Are you saying Amunike did not run an open under 20 camp? When it was stated on the news. Announced repeatedly and many turned up. Keep in mind coaches have different views on the game. A coach might like Odey and another might not. It is as simple as that. Did Odey say he went to the U20 camp and was denied entry? |
