Tradition....
Shiv climbed the stairs slowly, holding the railings. Her face showed she was deeply lost in thought.

A familiar fragrance past through her nostril and she stopped walking, raising her head to find Dike right in front of her. When did he get back from work? She hadnt realised.
'good evening' she muttered a greeting.

He only nodded and gave way for her to pass. Just as she was about climbing the next, she miscalculated and tripped backwards.

Shiv knew without doubt that she would have fallen backwards if Dike hadnt held her so close to himself.

His left hand held her waist from behind while his right hand entwined with her left, their faces just an inch apart. Their gazes locked.

'Dike, i told you...' Dora paused quickly with a loud gasp. And that quickly separated the both of them. She couldnt believe what her eyes saw. What were they about doing? Were they about to kiss? Dora gasped again.

Shiv suddenly looked disorganised 'uhm...thanks...thank you Dike' The she quickly brushed past and past Dora.

Dora returned her gaze to Dike, her mouth wide agape.

'if you dont close your mouth immediately, flies could just find an abode in them' He chuckled 'you look like you just saw a ghost'

He climbed down from the stairs, taking a seat in the dining.

'what was that Dike?' She didnt know where the words came out from 'what were you doing holding her that way?'

'i dont understand'

'that was so....so inappopriate Dike!'

'are you serious? You mean holding my wife that way's inappropritae. Really, i didnt know' He opened the dishes on the tray one after the other.

'Dike you've never held any of your wives that way before. Not even me'

'i wasnt holding her Dora. She tripped and was about falling when i caught her. I didnt do something wrong did i?'

'that was so...so...so wrong! That Shivani girl is...that girl's up to something. The other day you were taking her side, just last night you were drinking together with her. And today you're holding her in the name of saving her from falling. Dike we both know that if it had been Chinny or someone else who had fallen, you would have simply walked past like they dont mean a thing. What has come over you now? I dont like this at all Dike. It'd better stop'

'who are you to tell Dike what to do and what not?' Chinny approached from the kitchen. She had seen everything and had heard everything. When Shivani had left the kitchen looking dazed, Chinny had wanted to go after her but quickly hid when she saw Dike coming down as well. She didnt really understand what was going on between those two and Shivani wont tell her anything. Then all of a sudden, Shiv almost tripped and Dike was holding her. She was shocked at first, then she smiled. Not exactly knowing the reason for her amusement.
And then Dora had seen them. And then she had started ranting. She couldnt tolerate it anymore and she had to come out from the kitchen.

'who is this one? Who called your name in this matter?' Dora asked irritated.

'Dora, they are husband and wife. They can do anything they want to and its appropriate. I dont appreciate you butting in when it doesnt concern you. Now i know why you crazily wanted to know who left those glasscups at the bar this morning. Whether its your breakup with Frank getting to you, i dont understand. So you mean Dike cannot save Shiv from falling again ni'

Dike bit his lips to supress the laughter trying to escape his lips. No one knew but he enjoyed watching Chinny quarel with anyone. It was a source of amusement to him.

'who called your name in this matter? Were you even there when it happened?'

'i was not there but i saw everything. But the jealousy jealousy look on your face, saw everything. It is just jealousy that will kill you, nothing again. I dont even know what your problem is sef. I've warned you in thise house Dora and it looks as if i'm joking, do not provoke me in this house oo, because one day one day, monkey go ball in market, to ball out go hard am. I don tell you my own finish' She wiped her hands on her apron.

'what is happening again in this house?' Adanna asked also coming out of the kitchen 'Chinny its you and Dora again. Cant you all stay without fighting for goodness sakes? To the extent you're both quarelling front of Dike' She looked at Dike who was engrossed in his meal rathan than paying attention to any of them.

'you'd better warn this Chinny girl. Because one day, something's gonna happen in this house. I dont bite but when i do, i make sure your flesh is battered. Warn her. Tell her to stay away from my yadah, else....'

'else what Dora?' Adanna cut in harshly 'you will do nothing to Chinny in this house, you hear me?'

'gbam! Tell her' Chinny hissed.

Dike was surprised. Though he wasnt looking at them, he paid attention and from the way they both spoke, it looked as if they couldnt tolderate Dora anymore.

He just shrugged.

oh. I'm so sorry for not replying ur comment. Sometimes i find it tiring, replying everyone's comment. But that doesnt make it any less important.
And so sorry for the hotweather...why not take the next available flight to Asaba, i'll take care of all the fees. At least my hubby TheBlessedMAN is ever capable...
