position of the detection suite/trawl/mine plough is determined by operational requirements based on operational experience etc , equipments in concern and the carrier vehicle selected for installation.

i dont think this particular "positional" factor reflects poorly on any of the systems in question.

denel took a unconventional approach which is well and good, as it is based on their requirements / operational experience but IMO this was significantly also influenced by the selection/use of draw mat , a draw mat will be easily towed from the rear and from the flanks, but not possible (kind of inconvenient) to use it in the front.

the important thing is that the denel solution or the nigerian solution or any other countries systems should do the job they r meant to do , if that is done satisfactorily then everybody concerned would be happy with their individual choice.

dont see any issue to go loggerheads grin grin

From Denel: The rear-mounted detection suite is motivated by operational
experience proving the inefficiency of any forward mounting
of the sensors. The MPV protects the crew against any injury/
death in the event of a mine blast – and any damage to the
vehicle can be quickly/economically repaired
And?

IMO it is total life cycle cost spread over the operational life of the aircraft , including MLUs , spares , periodic maintenance and related infra, plus the cost of the aircraft's themselves.

actually this way it turns out cheap

u guys r confusing it with grocery shopping grin

Yes, the ones coming from the US would be new, the ones from Brazil would be used aircrafts. It's an Okay deal, although that 600 million is too much. Yes, I know it is life cycle which includes ammunitions, training and spares, but it still has to come down to 400 - 450 million.

US banks are supposed to finance the deal, hence we've been very patient.

The Tucano is the sort of Aircraft we need to prosecute our insurgency, the stats prove this, however it is my opinion that the JF-17s are delivered first, so we know were we are.

Even though it is a light aircraft and carries lighter weapons load, the technology onboard the Super Tucano is way above A10 Warthog and SU 25.
It is also fully net centric (although I have issue with that and it's implications for national security). It is a cheap to operate and advanced suite of capabilities not just airfraft that we are getting.
Nigeria needs 100 of these planes so we can secure all borders, track Boko Haram, track herdsmen , monitor intending pirates and oil thieves and provide quick reaction for disaster relief

If it is being financed by US banks then you have your answer why it is $600million

The news if true will be welcome news to an Embattled Trump Presidency wobbling to get back on track, it will burnish his Anti- terrorists credentials,
there is a note of caution about the news, at no time during the last days of the OBAMA administration did they intend to sell the A-29S to Nigeria, the Bombing at Raqqa even to the most jaundiced eye and enemy of the Nigerian Airforce was a tragic mistake based on wrong coordinates taking nothing away from that it has happened with the two most sophisticated Air forces in the world namely the U.S. and Russia.
A word of caution :
Expect Ammnesty International to scream to the highest level and to reach a fever pitch
The cautious good news:
The deal will go through if Sen .John Mc. Cain and Sen Corker approve they are the two most powerful republicans who have virtually power over this deal, they will be the ones to brush aside the Leahy act,
Cost:
The Cost is going to be high because all the Nigerian Pilots will be expected to receive their training from scratch in the States, it is also possible maybe NEMESIS can expand on this that certain communication equipment within the NAF that is compatible i.e. American made the Beechcraft NAF 201,202, & 203 will need to be up graded.
Conclusion.
The deal if finally approved will take time .Mr HENRY is right though expect the JF-17s first the A-29S second.

We have pilots on training in US already. I guess they are training on similar platform. There is this particular NAF guy that flew a USAF F-5.

have never seen corruption like dis b4.
just imagine buying a propeller aircraft for dis price is unbelievable.
the Ghanaians and other African countries who alsoaquired dis aircraft will be asking if it is the same aircraft they bought.

$600m=20 jf17blk 3 + other side deals
or 15jf17 + 10 A29 + other side deal.
or 15 j10 +other side deals.

I too think the figure is quite high, however you have to consider that the figure is for 30 years, the entire life cycle of the aircrafts, training, spare parts and ammunitions it isn't a "one off payment". Na small small.

We would have to see how it goes.

... But anyway, it's not like the deal has been signed though.

Ghana paid $88 million for 5 Super Tucanos which includes logistics support and a training system for pilots and mechanics in Ghana.

So theoretically they would have paid +/- $211 million for 12 Tucanos with all that's mentioned.
