@mamajaz subscribed. Nothing much has changed, basically the changes affects 457. The occupation list nomenclature only changed it is pretty much the same list. 1 Like |

Its actually a good news to those that have some form of ICT background mixed in their job roles. I DIBP has expanded their list to make flexible for people to have more options to choose. See below screenshots of added occupation and their assessing body. Arm urselfs against the new service year.

The new list is a bit confusing. You need to thoroughly go through every details before concluding. As an example, there's a combined list of eligible occupations; if that's the first list you look at, you may not find your occupation. This doesn't mean your occupation has been removed, but may have some restrictions. The only way to know if your occupation has been removed is if it's listed in the removed occupations list. If your occupation is not in the list of removed occupations, there's absolutely no need to worry. You just might not be eligible for state nomination (190) or the 457 visa. However, you can still apply for 189, 485 or 489 depending on your case. Best wishes. 2 Likes |

EngrKem:Be calm. The current policies affect the subclass 457. Although the PR structure looks different, the occupations and process involved basically remains the same. However, I strongly feel more updates and modifications as to PR application will be released in coming weeks. 1 Like |

[quote author=nkechima post=55679152] What I don't know is whether the list takes effect immediately. There is no information on the ceiling cap for the regular and newly added occupations. There might be hope if this takes effect from July. |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by NNBB2012: 2:46pm On Apr 18, 2017 |
For clarity purpose, the plain meaning of the two lists (effective as from 19th April) and their impacts: Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) replaces former SOL list: Hence you must nominate an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) if you are applying for any of the below: Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489) (unless nominated by a State or Territory Government) Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) – Graduate Work Stream. https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists If your occupation has been removed from MLTSSL eventhough you have already got a positive assessment but yet to lodge, you WON'T be able to apply for any visa mentioned above anymore except if the occupation is on STSOL list and any particular region or state/territory is sponsoring it. Short-Term Skilled Occupation list replaces former CSOL list: Hence you must nominate an occupation on the STSOL if you are applying for any of the below: Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186) – Direct Entry Stream Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489) - if nominated by a State or Territory Government Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) Training visa (subclass 407) You can find the details in Schedule 2 of the legislative instrument. https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2017L00450 You need to be sure also that states or regions are sponsoring such occupations. It is not enough to find your occupation on the STSOL, you must be certain that a state or region is sponsoring and that you can meet any applicable condition of the region or state. Note: Australian Migration Laws change from time to time. Whatever you need to do regarding migrating to Australia, do it fast. If your occupations have been removed from the list, there is no point wasting your money and effort on it; it is gone. For those who want to study, always study an occupation that you are sure will always be relevant to Australia market and that will not require experience for an assessment afterward. An occupation such as 'Petroleum Engineer' and 'Human Resource Adviser' have been removed from the list, hence people who have positive assessment could no longer apply for any valid visa using these occupations and others that have been removed. If you had admission to study 'Petroleum Engineering' and have mind of getting PR afterward, you will be wasting your time and money. These and many more will NEVER lead to PR except by marriage to an Australian PR holder or citizen which is not automatic. So, be guided! 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by NNBB2012: 3:22pm On Apr 18, 2017 |
teewhysafe:No, you can't apply for state nomination using MLTSSL. You can only use occupation on Schedule 2-STSOL. The latter has more occupations than the former. So, if your occupation is on MLTSSL, it will definitely be on STSOL. |
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Alphadoor: 3:24pm On Apr 18, 2017 |
teewhysafe: You definitely can. The new MLTSSL and STSOL shares the same relationship the SOL had with CSOL list. STSOL contains all MLTSSL occupations, so if initially, you start out with a 189 visa and u need state nomination to boost your point, you can go ahead and apply for it, based on the relationship, meaning you are now making of choice of 190 visa. |

nkechima:Australian Immigration system is governed by Acts, regulations, schedules, legislative instruments and their interpretations in policies. The Act specifies that before you can nominate an occupation, it has to be on STSOL list. 1 Like 1 Share |
