goldfish80: Some one raised eyebrows twice about this goalkeeping issue. I did same some pages back too. I saw it coming. Even with Ikeme fit. We still needed a good goalkeeper deputising him. I find it difficult to believe that we can't find some homes based goalkeepers better than what we have on ground. |

TheSuperNerd:This guy and injury. It is high time Rohr and his coaching crew find a long and lasting solution to our goalkeeping department. He should be a backup and not our number 1 goalie. It gets more scary when one as to admit the fact that Akpeyi is next in line. My question is what has the goalkeeper trainner been doing since all this while? I haven't seen any notable input from him so far. |

TheGoodJoe, I will join the masses against you, not because I like to follow the crowd. In fact i'm never scared to be the man to stand for a few or to stand alone. But let truth be told as regards Iheanacho as well. I feel as a coach, when you see a player from day one, you would already decide in your heard if you feel there is something special in him or not. I personally dont think Pep believes in Iheanacho and that will in no way help his development. I think a coach needs to see what is unique and special in a player and also work towards enhancing it especially as it has to do with his playing philosophy. From the start of this Premier League season, I have been singing silently, let Iheanacho go. My song became loud on the arrival of Gabriel Jesus. Pep is not the man for Iheanacho. Simple 1 Like |

Can Ndidi and Mahrez inspire a Leicester City comeback? Leicester City will look to African stars Wilfred Ndidi and Riyad Mahrez to inspire a comeback in tonight’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, second leg tie. The Foxes trail 1-0 after the first leg away to Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon last week, with Antoine Griezmann’s penalty all that separated the sides on the night. Leicester have enjoyed a fairytale run on their Champions League debut and will need the likes of Algerian wizard Mahrez, his compatriot Islam Slimani and Nigerian midfielder Ndidi to be in top form if they are to breach an Atletico defence regarded as one of the very best in Europe. Ghanaian Thomas Partey will hope to feature for the Spanish side as they continue to chase an elusive Champions League triumph under inspirational coach Diego Simeone. The other match on the night sees Real Madrid looking to wrap up progression against German giants Bayern Munich. ‘Los Blancos’ hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Bavaria last week and are heavily favoured to march into the semifinals. 2018 World Cup Qualifiers: Door Not Closed On NPFL Stars - Rohr By Augustine Akhilomen Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has assured players of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) that the doors have not been closed on them as far as invitation to the senior national team is concern. The German tactician was a special guest at the Agege Stadium, Lagos where he watched Stephen Odey's of Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) thrashed El Kanemi Warriors 3-0 on Sunday. It will be recalled that Rohr had promised to watch Odey, who is the leading top scorer of the NPFL with 13 goals play on Sunday as part of his move to motivate the domestic players. Having been criticised for the non-inclusion of the NPFL stars in his World Cup qualifying campaigns, where the Super Eagles are top of group B with six points after beating Zambia 2-1 and Algeria 3-1, the former Gabon gaffer told Soccernet.com.ng at the Agege Stadium after the match that the home based players must work hard to cement a place in his team. "I must confess to you that there are great talents in the Nigeria Professional Football League going by what I saw here today. Both Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) and El Kanemi gave a good fight and played quality football. At least a few players impressed me so much of which I won't mention their names," Rohr told Soccernet.com.ng "At some point I will invite the NPFL players to the team, however, my intention of sticking with the foreign professional was basically because I know majority of them and I want the best of players that will guarantee us the sole ticket for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. I don't want to jeopardize our chances of qualifying for the World Cup," he said. http://www.soccernet.com.ng/2017/04/2018-world-cup-qualifiers-door-not.html |

Egwuekwe Scores Own Goal To Cancel Out Gbolahan Salami Opener As KuPS Win Thriller In Finland Forgotten Super Eagles defender Azubuike Egwuekwe scored at the wrong end minutes after his Nigerian counterpart Gbolahan Salami has given his side the lead but still ended on the winning side as KuPS edge a thrilling contest 2-1 against FC Inter. Salami netted his first goal of the two games old Finnish League in the 28th minute but nine minutes later Egwuekwe scored an own goal to bring scores to 1-1, a score which FC Inter maintained till the half time break. Twelve minutes from full time, Egwuekwe costly error was redeemed by Ats Purje who netted what ended as the winner to hand KuPS their first win of the season in what was their first game at home this season, They started their campaign with a 0-2 loss away to HJK last weekend, and so far all three Nigerian players on their books with Rueben Gabriel completing the trio have all played in the games, although Gabriel has twice been introduced as a substitute. Ex-Leicester Coach Ranieri Rejected Approach From Nigeria's WCQ Opponents Former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri says he turned down the chance to manage the Algerian national team before the FAF appointed Spanish tactician Lucas Alcaraz. Ranieri thinks he was recommended to the Algerian Federation by two of his former pupils Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani. ''It's true that Algeria approached me. Maybe Mahrez and Slimani spoke highly of me to them. I'd be happy to work in England again. I am looking around, " Ranieri was quoted as saying by Leicester Mercury. "I received various offers, including from national teams in Europe and beyond. "I want to think carefully and choose the project that makes me most passionate." According to the English Press, Ranieri would be tempted by a new experience in the Premier League, with Watford reportedly the front-runner for his services. Chelsea, Arsenal Loanees Tomori, Akpom Promoted To The Premier League Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori and Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom could be playing in the English Premier League next season if Brighton & Hove Albion retain their services. Only yesterday, The Seagulls sealed promotion to the Premier League from the Championship for the first time in their history following their 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic, and Derby County held Huddersfield Town to a 1-1 draw in the late game. This is the second consecutive season that former England youth-teamer Akpom has been part of a team promoted to the top-flight as the Hale End Academy product spent last season on loan at Hull City. Chelsea current Academy Player of the Year Tomori has featured seven times for Brighton in the Championship, while Akpom has suited up nine times following their loan moves in the January transfer window. Leicester City's Ndidi To Miss Champions League Semifinal If..... www.nairaland.com/attachments/5174534_ndidi_jpeg887c7d9d2490d08e9c7f5f521e434e3c Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi is doubtful to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal, second leg on Tuesday night, according to the official website of UEFA. The central midfielder will need to undergo a late fitness test before stepping out onto the King Power Stadium turf. With defenders Robert Huth suspended and captain Wes Morgan injured, manager Craig Shakespeare will be hoping Ndidi plays through the pain barrier as he has a special job for him tonight, which is the man-to-man marking of France star Griezmann. The former Racing Genk sensation will miss the semifinal clash if he picks up another booking today, having been yellow carded against Sevilla on March 14. In 50 outings this season, Ndidi has found the net five times, including two long-range stunners against Stoke City and Derby County. Kpakor: Why Nigerian Clubs Are Failing In CAF Competitions By James Agberebi: Former Nigeria international, Moses Kpakor, says that lack of consistency at squad level is one of the reasons Nigerian clubs have not been doing well in CAF club competitions lately, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Nigeria's only surviving club on the continent this year is Rivers United in the Total CAF Confederation Cup. Enugu Rangers got knocked out in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, while the duo of FC IfeanyiUbah and Wikki Tourits were eliminated in the Confederation Cup. The last time a Nigerian club played in the final of the Champions League was in 2009 when Heartland faced TP Mazembe, and lost on the away goals rule. In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Kpakor who won the CAF Cup Winners'Cup with BCC Lions in 1990, posited that players must spend time together for a long time in order to do well on the continent. "The problem with Nigerian clubs on the continent are multi-dimensional," Kpakor stated. "But I think that players change clubs too frequently. Clubs sack too many players by the end of each season which means the players don't get to understand each other. "By the end of this season, you will hear clubs sacking 15 players and these are the same clubs who just few months ago recruited 30 players. So these are some of the problems our clubs face. Hardly will you see a club that has players who have played up to four years together. "When you look at BCC Lions in those years, you see players who have played for seven, eight years together. Every year you hear the name of the same players. And by implication, it means coaches have problems when it comes to introducing systems that can win matches for them." Kpakor stated further: "If a coach comes with a new system in the first season, if he is allowed to continue, by the second season, the players would have grabbed what he is trying to pass across to them. "So we need to change, and the management must do something about this. And I am surprised because when you look at these clubs, you find people who played football and who are in management, but they cannot be patient with coaches and players." And on Rivers United being Nigeria's only surviving club on the continent, Kpakor, a member of the Super Eagles squad that won silver at the 1990 Africa Cup of Nations in Algiers, advised the players to see it as an opportunity rather than a burden. "I spoke to players of Rivers United in Bauchi and I told them that they are our only hope now on the continent and that means a lot of responsibility on them now. "But I made them to understand that they can turn it into a big advantage because it is a massive opportunity for them being the only Nigerian team left." Nigeria: Why We're Owing Rohr - - NFF By Tony Ubani Fears that the Super Eagles fine run in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers could be truncated due to the arrears of salary owed Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr have been allayed even as some companies have promised to bail out the Nigeria Football Federation from their financial quagmire. Nigeria currently leads their 2018 World Cup qualifying group with four points ahead of their closest challengers Cameroon but off the field distractions of pecuniary matters have heightened fears that Nigeria could bungle their lead in the group. Sports Vanguard gathered authoritatively that Rohr's three months salary arrears have become a burden to the NFF even though the coach has handled the salary issue diplomatically, turning off inquiries saying that "it's a personal issue and there is no problem between me and my employers". Checks by Sports Vanguard, however, indicate the NFF who convinced Sports Minister to hire the coach because they had sponsors to pay his salaries were left in the lurch by some oil companies who withdrew from their earlier pledge to pick the salaries of the coach. "It is unfortunate that the status of a Government official in the oil sector sector changed, if not, we'll not be talking about the non payment of Rohr's salary. There was a solid agreement that the oil company would foot the bills of the foreign technical adviser as their Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR). It was based on it that we went for Rohr and the coach has justified his employment without defeat on the Eagles since he was hired. Due to changes in government that affected the status of the man driving the oil companies, they too, have backtracked from honoring their pledge on the salary of Rohr", a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation said. But the NFF in the past weeks had overcome their gloom as partners and sponsors have given them a lifeline on the three months arrears owed Rohr. "As we talk, am sure that his salaries will be cleared. We've gotten promises from partners and sponsors and we'll not waste time in clearing his salaries. He(Rohr) has shown faith and understanding with us and we honestly appreciate his professionalism and focus on qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup as well as the Africa Cup of Nations. We can only appeal to Nigerians not to distract him from his set objectives", the source noted. However, another snag remains the winning bonuses and allowances for the win against Zambia. Our source said that the Ministry, while absolving themselves from Rohr's salaries, should shoulder the payment for the winning bonuses they are owed. http://allafrica.com/stories/201704180757.html |

Oliseh’s Sittard Win As Nwakali Loses With MVV Maastricht 17 Apr 2017 By Johnny Edward: Former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh's Fortuna Sittard defeated FC Oss 2-0 on Monday to move 15 points clear of the relegation spots of the Dutch second division, reports Completesportsnigeria.com. It was Fortuna Sittard's 12th win of the season. First half goals from Djibril Dianessy and Gavin Vlijter sealed a comfortable win for Oliseh's side who are now 17th in the table with three games to play. Fortuna Sittard were docked six points for financial mismanagement in the Eerste Divisie and could see their professional licence revoked if their finances do not improve ahead of next season. Also in the Dutch second division on Monday at the De Vijverberg Stadium, Kelechi Nwakali could not stop MVV Maastricht from suffering a 2-0 defeat away to De Graafschap. MVV Maastricht have not won in their last five games. The former Nigeria U-17 skipper played for 84 minutes before being replaced by Dyon Gijzen. Trabzonspor Bank On Onazi To Lure Musa To Turkey 16 Apr 2017 By David Meshioye: Trabzonspor are hopeful their Nigerian midfielder Onazi Ogenyi will use his personal relationship with compatriot Ahmed Musa to aid the Turkish Super Lig club in securing the Leicester City forward, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. “Ahmed is a very close brother of mine and we always get on well in the national team,” Onazi told Completesportsnigeria.com when asked about the link, which was reported by Turkish outlet Fanatik. Trabzonspor’s technical director Ersun Yanal and president Muharrem Usta have identified Musa as one of a group of high-quality recruits necessary to further a process of returning Trabzonspor’s squad to a level from which it can compete for the Super Lig and European titles, reports in Turkey claim. While Trabzonspor are confident of meeting the financial terms demanded by Leicester City for the Super Eagles winger, they want Onazi to help facilitate a summer switch. In recent months, Trabzonspor have been monitoring events in Leicester as Musa continues to endure difficult times under new manager Craig Shakespeare. Trabzonspor President Muharrem Usta is keen to add Musa to his squad as the Nigeria star also seeks an escape from Leicester where he has struggled to get playing time. Onazi – who has quickly established himself as a central figure in Yenal’s Trabzonspor – is seen as the best option to help talk Musa into coming to Turkey next summer. Joebie: I hold and share your fears. Believe me, I am as well conscious of the dicey situation Iheanacho is in. However, we can not close our eyes to the fact that without playing time, we have seen improvement in players screened off the team by Guardiola. Aguero's recent spike in his team play happened when Guardiola left him out of the team for Gabriel Jesus. We saw remarkable improvement in Yaya Toure after Guardiola brought him back to the squad Samir Nasri looked a revelation after Guardiola brought him in as a sub in the second leg play off against Steau Bucharest. So remarkable he got to go to Sevilla, got the ten shirt and became a key player. Caballero who was awful with his feet before the arrival of Claudio Bravo is now rock solid with his feet and makes picture perfect passes when under pressure. Fabian Delph is the latest of them. My point remains that I am interested in the result of working with Guardiola than just game time. Despite Nacho having little to no game time, I have zero doubt that he is developing at a fast rate. When he gets a run, we will tell the difference. |

zicky: I do not think there was doubt in Pogba's ability but as I said before, formative years are critical. At Manchester United, Scholes was on his way out and Carrick was getting older. That was a good opportunity for SAF to mould Pogba to his taste. Unfortunately, Pogba chose quick fame and fortune and missed out on that chance. Earlier this season, Mohrinho tried Pogba as a Pivot for Manchester United and he was awful, especially in reading the dynamics of the game. Hard to correct and mould at old age. |
